Unhappy I think we picked the wrong name...

I have a dilema - I have an 11wk old gorgeous girl, and now Im having second thoughts about the name we gave her!

We knew she was going to be a girl, and had two names to pick from when she was born. It took us a few hours to decide which one, and even after we had sent the announcement out we were having doubts! We were prepared to change it the next day if we were still unsure, but after getting to know her a little more we thought that yes - Evangeline DOES suit her, we will leave it as is.

Well, now ever since I have been wondering if we made the right choice - I still love her name, but just think the other one would suit her better!

AAAAGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!! What do I do? I dont really want to change it this far on, but how do I get over it? HELP!!!!!!

Maybe you could give her a nickname or something until she "grows" into the name?

I had that problem with Aricyn too - was wondering if we had named him the right one, cos it just didn't... i dunno.. fit with his looks?

but he grew into it.. and he's soooo much an Aricyn now.

I was unsure if Juliette suited her name for a long time but everyone else said it was perfect. Just yesterday I was looking at her thinking, yep you really are a Juliette, definitely not an April or Rosalie as were her other options

My cousin changed her childs name at 10 weeks (i think) she added a first name in front of the other. Neva (means snow in a language ICR). you can do what ever you want, you are the super mummy!

I had little pangs of the same feelings for about a good year after my daughter was born ... Might sound strange to say but i think it was because it's a long name to say (if that makes sense) ... and the times you get asked how to pronounce or spell it just adds to that little doubtful angel sitting on your shoulder ... BUT having said all that WE are so beyond HAPPY that we DID name her the name she has

I truely believe your feelings 'Might' be of the same thoughts & feelings DP & I had ... I promise those ideas will slowly fad away ... and then you will ever be so GLAD you never changed her name

I think your daughters name EVANGELINE is absolutely BEAUTIFUL (I hope you don't change it ) ... BUT if it feels RIGHT to change it then you know what to do !!

    P.S - My DD's name ends in ' INE ' too

    Hi Sneakysparkle,

This is a tough one. Firstly- what does your DH think? Does he think the other name suits her better also? Or is he content with the decision?

I had the exact same thing with my boy. I absolutely love his name, but when I initially heard the name I thought it suited someone tall, dark and handsome. Now, my boy is handsome (he he)- but he has white blond hair and bright blue eyes!! The other name (my number 1 pick) would have suited him so much better but DH wasn't so keen on it. It took me until he was about 4 months old to look at him and not visualise the other name. Hearing people call his given name over and over has helped me to accept the name we chose. I don't know if i would be brave enough to change it at 11 weeks, but if DH had agreed with me before the 6 week mark, I would have changed it to my first choice in a heartbeat.
Sorry- not much advice there- only empathy. Perhaps you can kind of 'meditate' on the reasons why you chose Evangeline in the beginning. It may not suit her to a tee now- but they say we grow into our names- and Evangeline is a very unique, feminine and distinctive name that will help to define her as an adult.

Are you kiding you have made me put Evangeline on the list for girls! When I fall pg
What other name did you have? Just curious??

I have never met your daughter before but to be honest we can never tell what name will suite our kiddies! It may suite them now but not when they grow and visa versa.
All you need to know is its one of the most beautiful names I have heard in a long time and there isn't 100 of them in the same room
I cant say much else as I said I've never met your princess. But the name is beautiful

    Hi,
My dh got to choose our boy's name and I never liked it- least of all because it rhymes with his last name

I have shortened it so effectively that most people are suprised when I tell them the lengthened version of it.

And, like Mel said, they do grown into them.

BTW,I think the name Evangeline is beautiful

It is a BEAUTIFUL name and I am SO picky when it comes to names.
My cousin had the same doubts with both of her little ones. I don't think many babies actually do 'suit' the names they've been given until they start to develop a personality and people get used to calling them by their name.
I would keep it if I were you. My Grandmother HATED the name my parents gave me when I was born but slowly fell in love with it.
Give it time - good luck.

Evangeline is BEAUTIFUL. Its normal to have slight reservations, it happens as you get to know them, as you are now.

I agree, Evangeline is a beautiful name.

And like others have said, sometimes you just need a bit of time for it to 'feel' right. I was the same with my DS, both names would have suited him but now I know we chose the right one.

I l ove Evangeline! It's beautiful, and I haven't heard it around much!

I have the opposite problem. When ds grows up and people shorten his name, it will be Jenny or Jen. We call him Jens, but now I worry that the other kids will make fun of him.

I'm sure Evangeline will start looking like her name soon! It is a gorgeous name. FWIW, I was all for giving my DS the normal nickname for his name. Soon as he was born, nup. He's not a "Li", he's a "Liebling"!

You can also go for a nickname completely unrelated. If I shorten DS's name then it's to Wellie (the "bling" part of his name), that ended up being Duke of Wellington and now a few friends call him Duke. Which actually doesn't sound too stupid.

I have had those doubts too yet most of the time I'm really happy! I always think of Mackenzie's name suiting her more when she's older rather than as a little baby. I think sometimes we stress sooooo much about babies names and it is important but in the end you have to choose one! I love Evangaline cause it's classic, it goes with your other daughter's name and has some cute nicknames: Eve, Eva, Evie, Lina etc.

I think it's lovely. I would leave it. You could always call her a cute nickname like Eve, Evie or Lina.
