    advice needed! xray tomorrow!

well my poor little girl is constipated, its been a few weeks now that she has been holding her poos in - she literally squeals and closes her legs that tight thats she goes all red and can barely hold herself up. she also has a noticeably bloated tummy.

we went to the docs yesterday, she gave us some coloxyl drops, which seem to be helping, because she has done 2 small poos today (normally we get one 20cent piece sized poo a day) but they have hurt her to do

we have to have an xray tomorrow @ 2. im really worried because i know she wont lay down to have it done. has anyone else had to take their little one for an xray? is there a magic trick the xray person can do to make her lay down?? lol

*i have a thread in the cooking section about advice needed on getting her to eat her veggies if anyone can help!!!!*

It would probably be easier to get her to lie on her tummy than on her back (sort of stretches them out a bit)

Hope that she is OK - I hate getting jammed up now and it is so much worse when you don't understand what is happening

I couldn't find your bit in cooking (my connection is a bit slow tonight) but I was watching Oprah the other day and Jerry Signfield's wife has just bought out a book about cooking for littlies with purees and how to hide an enormous amount of purees in meals and they don't even realise that they are eating vegies. I have since seen it int he book shops and although I haven't read it it had a pretty good review in our local Dymocks. As far as I can tell the theory is that you jsut throw a bit of puree into everything you cook and the kids get their veggies but also develop a taste for them because they are getting a little of the taste as well. Dr Oz (who generally makes sense to me with what he says) was very supportive of it as well. HTH

Maybe take her pillow in with you if she has one? Or maybe a special treat of taking mummy or daddy's pillow to lay on might help? Also it might help to expain to her that the nurse has to take special photos of her tummy so you can make it feel all better & if she lays nice & still they'll get some good photos & she can have a look at them when they're all done????

Dunno, never been there before but that's what i can think of.

    Good luck tomorrow.

Makon has had to have xrays and U/s the last one we told him the doctor wanted to look in his tummy and that he needed to lie still while they were!

perhaps you could say some thing similar? "the doctor wants to take some photos of your tummy and to do that you might have to lie down" if you have some xrays around maybe show her them! 'see these are photos of mummys/daddys -----! they are funny looking photos"
make it an adventure rather then a scary thing try not to mention its to help her poos!

My eldest DD has had quite a few x-rays and IMO the person doing the x-ray can make all the difference maybe like the others suggested take a pillow or something that usually comforts her at home and then maybe a treat after like going to the park or something for staying nice and still. I have had both instances where my dd either wouldn't stay still at all and then others where she was perfectly still. If she doesn't stay still they will just keep trying until she does.

There is a laxative that my DD has had that is really good it's called Moovicol (not sure if that is the spelling) but it doesn't give the pain that most laxatives do and even i tried it and it's great, its a little more expensive but is great.
