Help- nappy rash treatments? (over the counter or prescription)

Lee- you are a good mummy caring about your darling's bottom. Bad mummies wouldn't worry...
I have been using Sudocrem and it actually hasn't been working (when it has in the past). I also use olive oil to create that barrier so wee can't get to it. Is the rash a red spotty one near the top of her genitals? Only asking as my DD has the same and it won't go away either.

bepanthem (sp?) has worked wonders for me always and also good for insect bites too!

Do you think that could be thrush, Deirdre? I was told thrush can appear as a 'spotty', pimple-like rash. You can get it checked out and use an anti-fungal cream to get rid of that one. HTH a little...

ETA: Lee, pleeeeeease don't feel guilty We have levels of these bacteria on our skin aaaaaall the time, and every now and again, being the oportunists that they are, they break through our protective mechanisms and set up shop. It doesn't have anything to do with how clean or dirty we are - we just co-exist with these little buggers regardless. And hey, it may not be infected anyway. But particularly if it is a little weepy, it can't hurt to have someone look at it. (?)

And to the person who posted about poo-burn, I swear by the Herron Zinc & castor oil cream that someone else mentioned. Just make sure the bottom is dry and apply it EVERY nappy change and change nappy often - this is what we do when Natty goes on a poo spree. Honestly, some days that child will produce one at every nappy change! Like, every couple of hours! And they are done in total secret, lol. On those days I try to change her every couple of hours.

Steph is teething at the moment, and her poos are really feral and acidy, she is just so red! I was using some eczema cream for a day or two, as well as bepanthen, but have now switched over to just putting on slatherings of sorbolene (sp?). It seems to be helping a bit, last night she was jsut screaming in absolute agony. If it isn't any better later, I'll try something from this thread.

Awww hun, you're not a bad mum!! Oskar had a horrid nappy rash for about a month a while back - every time it looked like it was clearing it would suddenly just come back with a vengeance!! I think it actually was related to him teething and he'd been sick with a throat infection also. Anyway, I had been using paw paw ointment but this didn't work, also bepanthen (my friend swears by it) but it wasn't working so I tried Amolin and I smeared it quite thick on EVERY nappy change and it worked sooooo fast it was amazing. I now put it on every night after his bath and any time there's the slightest bit of red on him and it seems to get it before it can become anything. It's not very expensive either!!

DS's bum was red raw from having gastro, the only cream that worked for me was bepanthen, it worked pretty much straight away too, which really impressed me

Thanks heaps guys. What great ideas for me and anyone else reading this thread.

I am just so excited to say (haha what a loser I am!!) that we have definite improvement! But you know what I think helped the most, was that yesterday she didn't do a poo (actually probably for a day and a half now) so her little bot could have rest..thankgoodness.
I also spoke to a GP and he said to try 1% hydrocortisone cream a couple times a day, so we have been doing that too. Oh and I also gave her (probably not the best thing to do I know but I was desperate) a very weak salt bath and that seemed to help the crusty part of it and seemed to get rid of the superficial weeping that some bits had (probably was a little infection I'd say, but very mild).

So anyway, her cute little toosh is returning to it's pink little self!

Lee, a salt bath sounds like a very good idea! I was also told the other day that a bit of bi-carb in the bath works wonders too Glad it's clearing up, no poo definitely helps
