I don't see how gentle = smothering.

I could get quite hurt after saying I was more gentle than not and trying to be supportive that you would turn around and say I smother my child and judge others' parenting. I'm not going to, as your opinion on my parenting style and label mean nothing to me (only my son gets a say), but I could.
