We didn't actually have to buy much, fortunately. Just a nappy bag, stroller, monitor, mat, bath, Hugabub and some clothes. We use all of those things and they were perfect for our situation. There really isn't anything I thought that was a waste of money. I waited till after he was born to get anything else I needed so if I'm ever asked what is and isn't necessary, that's the only advice I give.
