I got my ears pierced at 6 months old. Holes are still centred. I nenver really paid much attention to them.

My mum got my sister's kids done recently. The eldest was 8 and she was able to look after them beautifully. She loves putting in other earrings when she goes out. The middle girl was 4 and she can be difficult when she doesn't get her own way. She threw a tantrum about 2 months after and took the earrings out. The holes closed over before anyone noticed. She has been told that she won't get then redone until she is older. The youngest was 3 and she loves them. Calls them "her pretties". None of the kids got infections or anything.

I don't believe in babies getting their ears pierced either. They should be able to have a say in if they want it done or not.....

I had to wait til i was 13yrs old before Mum would let me get it done!!

Skye, some boys still get their ears done, personally i think that it looks awful on a small boy (sorry if anyone on here has a baby BOY with piercing) ... these kids love theirs but i dont think that they would have asked to have it done....
None of DSS (10yrs) have pieced ears, i dont think that its the norm at all.

Nah, I was just curious. Wouldn't consider it til at least school age & only if he wanted it. Just wondering if it was still cool.

Jess: thanks for putting this thread in .. i had been asking myself the same question and like you didnt realise i was such an issue ...

i had mine done at about 3months old ..

and i feel id like to get DD's some around the same time if not earlier ..just with small studs
my friend has her dd done at a very early age ( 6 wks i think ) and i thought it looked sweet , she was the only girl in the playgroup and she looked like a rose amongst the thorns she still wears studs and has never had a problem

I chose to have mine done at age 8.

My 13yo DD never wants hers done.

I personally don't like the feeling of jewellery on my body and only wear small sleepers to keep my holes open. I don't even wear any rings. My DD is the same... is 'irked' by the feeling of jewellery.

We'll i have decided that if i'm getting DD's done that i too will get the second set done... That way i know how she's feeling. Thanks so much for everyones opinions sounds like there is good arguments for both sides and DP and i need to sit down and work out what were going to do. Thanks again.

Also do you recommend the surgical steel studs or the 14k gold ones??? The place i rang said there the best 2 options to go for??? can u buy earings to use in the guns or do u need the prepacked sterile ones??? i noticed they come in the surgical steel and gold but not sure if they are gold plated or the 14k gold???

I always figured I would get dd's done the day she gets her first period for something really special.
You know, day off school, movie, girlie day type thing.
It's something I'm really looking forward to, actually.

I'm not really a fan of it before they ask for it!
I grew up with a mum who had no piercings and sad i had to wait till i was 18 to get them done! My dad ended up taking me out of school onmy 12th birthday and getting it done for me and i will never forget that day and how special and grown up I felt.

I will leave it untill my girls ask for it - maybe make it a grade 6 thing or something like that - although my 3yo is already wanting to wear them and i have bought her clip on ones and she wears them around the house all the time and puts them in her special jewelery box etc! Very cute

Definitely the gold. I have sensitive ears and can only wear earrings with sterling silver or gold posts. Anything else, including surgical steel makes my earlobes swell and itch, and sometimes I get pus coming out of the holes. Sorry if TMI...but it's not nice.

    Yeh totally a personal choice.

My mum chose to let me choose when or if i wanted to have mine done. I had them done when i was 8 years old. I'll be doing the same with Keira.

I rang around few places... No age limits that i have found... 1 place said their gun was a bit big for little lobes but said they could use a special piercing needle... I'm not going for that option.
    Hi Jess

i had my eyebrow pierced with a needle and have had a number of holes in my ears with the gun. The needle was much less painful and less of a shock than the gun. I would go the needle if i ever get another piercing.

Not sure how they would go doing two at the same time though!

    k
