I found the very same thing happened to me the last few times DH & I did it when I was pregnant. Things do get sooo swollen down there
But guess what - I birthed a 9lb baby & didn't tear!!
My advice is to listen to your midwives. They directed me as DS was crowning & I did exactly what they said.
