I've been quoted a couple of times now and I just want to clarify that I wasn't even extending these anecdotal experiences to the cascade of intervention (some of them did eventuate this way, but I didn't mention that here) - the labours themselves are reported to have been awful, and I can't recall that any of them had even gone over 42 weeks. The labours were unexpectedly relentless because the women didn't know the physiology of the uterus and what synto does, and that it overrides the boy's own natural production of hormones.
At least if you know WHY induced labours are different you have a heads up if you do end up needing one. HypnoBirthing is reported to help immensely in ANY birth outcome - women have said they would have been even worse off without it in cases of medical intervention. So, preparation and reading about all possibilities (not just selective reading on what you WANT to have happen) is really the key. I researched emerg c-section so that I could make a birth plan for that possibility, as well as just hospital transfer plan (first one was FBC and I had a plan written for if I had to be moved to the ward, second was the homebirth and I had a plan for transfer if necessary).
I would recommend hiring an IM or doula and writing up a birth plan with her Once your baby is with you, all expenses are completely justified, especially when you've had a great labour and birth. DP didn't want to pay for HypnoBirthing that first time round, and did it reluctantly with me. Boy was he glad he didn't insist on being a tightwad! He's not much good for sympathy and was really glad that I did most of the work and all he ended up having to do was pour water on my back.
