Hey guys! I'm 5w2d today, and do far breastfeeding while pregnant is going okay. My supply has definitely dipped, but for now it seems to at least be holding at this new level itms? DD is coping well, although I think my milk must taste a little different. She also spews once every few days, a stringy, mucousy spew which she never does normally, so I'm putting that down to pregnancy too. I'm just making sure to put her in as much as possible, even though my nipples are getting a little sensitive now, it's nothing I can't deal with feeding wise. I've ordered a herbal supp that's safe for pregnancy for boosting and assisting milk supply, so I'm looking forward to that arriving as I've had great success with herbal supplements in the last

Question for anyone who BF through pregnancy...how did you position your little one when the belly started getting in the way? I'm thinking I've only got a few comfortable weeks left before my belly is too tender for her to lie on (I feed her lying on my back when we're at home, cradle or sitting on me knee when out).

Good to know it's going well Pumpkin. Interesting about the different taste.

So DD has stopped biting the nipple which is great but she's developed a new habit of pulling off every time she wants a break from sucking / drinking instead of just pausing. So she will pull off but because the milk is still flowing it runs down my boob and pools into my clothes. I think she pulls off so she can do some sight seeing while taking her mini breaks as she arches her neck and gazes all around her too as she does this.

Oh I hate when they come off and it drips down your clothes - I tend to keep the breast pad in the top folded down a bit to try and catch the leaks lol.

When the little ones start teething I had read u are supposed to take them off and put them on the floor - does it have to be the floor floor or just down like if in bed on bed - or on lounge? Just wanting to get my tactics easy as my little guy is drooling like a champion lately and want to be ready! Lol

I just put ds away from breast - on floor/couch/bed etc wherever we were that was safe. Sometimes I just took him off me for a bit but still had him sitting on me if I thought he wasn't likely to have finished his feed.

I think anywhere safe is good - some of it depends on the child as well. I tried putting ds on the couch a cpl of times without success but only had to do the floor once. I think the impt thing is to stay calm & try not to squeal (i know it:s easy to say in theory!) - if they get a reaction it can become a fun game. Just a calm "no" & take them off (imo).

Hi girls - i don't tend to pop in here often any more. it's kinda weird, but i guess i feel like i don't have much to offer cos i ccan't recall much about early BF days. But i had to share.
DD asked for boob after work tonight. she gave me big cuddles, attached, took a deep breath, then detached, grinned up at me "mummy, you smell like **** **** on your boobie!" it was very cute

(**** **** being the term her uncle taught her for any spray stuff like perfume)

Just popping in because I don't want to start a new thread... what is the easiest way to store small amounts of BM? Say I want to store enough for 4 to 6 feeds? I am the worker, going back to work after about 10 weeks. But I want to pump at work and bring it home, and maybe even pump at home a bit to give her BM while I'm away. Ideas for storage? Can you reuse BM bags?

As far as I know u could technically use BM bags again but they would use there sterilization benefit. I bought lasinoh (sp?) bags of eBay for really cheap I think 50 for $15 it was a uk seller. Otherwise someone has suggested to me there are freezer trays that freeze them in cubes of say 30mls? I think u would be able to freeze them and then maybe transfer to a normal bag and keep reusing the tray?

I just use the bags but others may have handy tips

I pumped a lot initially due to DD's tongue tie and I froze my excess stash in 100ml lots in BM bags. I initially bought the Medela ones but they are so expensive! $30ish for 20. I found Swissper ones at a different chemist which were $4.50 for 20 They've worked a treat and I've continued to buy them. I also did a few Happy Baby ice cube trays which were about 25ml per cube.

You could put frozen cubes into good quality zip lock bags so you can reuse the trays but you run the risk of the bags not sealing properly (my BM bags have a double seal) or tearing. Proper BM bags really are the way to go. BM bags have been great for me but I only wish I'd thought to lay them flat (from the beginning) to freeze them

I would buy 1 pack of avent cups - they are reusable, sterilizable, rarely leak, and are not especially expensive. Or even just get a few more of whatever sort of bottles go with your pump. The "happy baby" bottles are compatible with medela pumps and are inexpensive.

I second the Avnet cups I have a stack of them but I normally on put 100ml in each max. You can alsouse them to store food in later unlike the bottles. I didnt like the breastmilk bags i found them messy and fiddly but then im unco. I also make DH use the frozen bm and have the fresh stuff as extra and if bubs doesn't need the fresh it can be frozen instead of having to chuck out frozen milk that has thawed.

I'm looking forward to not leaking milk every five seconds hopefully a couple more weeks and my supply will settle down. DD must be going through a growth spurt shed fed almost every 1.5 hrs yesterday hence very full bb's today. Got rid of a blocked duct this morning fx it stays away I really want to avoid mastitis this time round

I agree about the laying flat - I can't imagine how much room my stash would take up in the freezer of I didn't lay flat - I think I have 40 bags in the freezer already!

I pumped into my medela bottles while at school and then mix ebm if required to get the next days bottle (I was working full time from 4mths) any extra would get frozen in 30ml lots.
I had 2 different brand ice trays for ebm - one was sensible lines and I can't remember the other one ATM (still packed away). Once any ebm was frozen, I'd remove from trays and store in ziploc bags with dates on it for use (usually Mondays)

Wow, I've never expressed enough to need a system. But I'm lucky enough to be able to stay at home though, so I admire you all for continuing to breastfeed, or express feed while you're back at work, that's amazing.

I think during DD's nearly 5 months, I've expressed exactly twice, and both times it was because she'd dropped her night feed randomly and I was painfully bursting when she'd finished her morning feed. Both bottles are in the freezer (120mL both times). I don't even know how she'd go having a bottle, she's only ever had boob. I'm pretty lazy! It would be nice to know sometimes that she'd take a bottle, it would make it easier for me to leave her, but then, there are advantages both ways

Yeah I'm in awe of you ladies who manage to express and work - I tried with DD and failed miserably, she was fully formula fed within 2 weeks. It was almost as if my body refuses to give milk for a pump as I only ever get the tiniest trickle even when engorged - and the same now with DS, most I've managed is about 30ml

I've got fx I can do it when I go back. I seem to be able to 80-120mls when I pump the second side 1-2hrs after a feed so hoping if I'm pumping "a feed" that I'll be able to get more than enough especially if I do both sides - but whether that is ableto be maintains I'll see.

For now tho I am really enjoying feedig little man - I love the milky grins u get when there full and it is really the only time our little guy likes snuggling - he is just too interested in the world!
