    Woohoo Teirae!

Congrats BR on your brand new boy. At this age there is not much to do but go with his cues, as long as he seems to be doing well, weeing/pooing enough and gaining weight over time.

The best thing is to make sure you have enough support so you can take naps when you need to and din't need to be managing everything during the day. How is your IRL support? Your baby will need to feed frequently for a while, but as you know already, it doesn't last forever.

Rest up as much as you can!

congrats BR - you can try waking to feed more frequently during the day, if you want. Most likely he'll just do as he pleases

I thought I might join this discussion thread. My ds is 1yr old and still bf well. Against all the negativity of other mothers and family. I plan to bf until he weans himself, whenever that might be.

A little background info. We had a few issues with bf early on to the point I considered stopping because of the pain. But I saw a lactation consultant, and here we are still happily bf.

Black Rose congratulations on your tiny treasure.

Teirae - yay! I cannot BF in public at the moment as DD is way too distractable.

Bskilner, a good LC is an absolute saviour I think. Not just for the technical knowledge but the positivity and support.

*Warning, this is a 'me' post*

We are having massive issue with breast refusal. DS is tube fed overnight, but should be BF through the day. He wont. There's nothing I haven't tried. I have spoken to LC's, ABA and LA leche league counsellors. It's doing my head in. He is ready for solids but I don't want to start while we have this issue. I am trying to find the balance between making sure he gets enough and stays hydrated and letting him be hungry/thirsty enough to want the breast. It's become such a battle and I'm tired. I am setting daily goals. Today he took 2 small feeds (only about 7 mins if that), but I am still expressing. Tomorrow, well, I hope I can get through tomorrow too. I am going to an ABA meeting Tuesday, so I that's my next goal. To get to Tuesday. This has been going on now on and off for 2 months. I am trying to pinpoint what it is and I can't.. I just want it fixed. He is such an easy going happy baby except for when I offer him boob. He's not in pain, he doesn't have reflux. TBH I am not looking for advice, just support. Tell me this will get better. Tell me that we can still have a good breastfeeding relationship. He is going to be my only baby, I'm not ready to give up yet. But god, it's hard. I hate expressing. I hate it when he screams just because my nipple has touched his mouth. I hate that he's happy sucking the dummy or his hands, but wont take boob. I hate that when he does attach I am terrified to move in case I interrupt it. I hate that I'm not enjoying it, because I am timing the feed to try and figure out if he's getting enough.. *Sigh.. I think that's enough complaining.. I have gotten through today. I can get through tomorrow..

Don't worry too much about the length of the feed - my ds feeds in 5 min most of the time. hoping it gets better soon

    7 minutes is great!!

I feel for you though. I'm still getting either flat out refusal or suck, pull off, cry, suck, pull off cry. It's really trying isn't it.

i hope it improves for you soon. i found feeds alot more relaxing with my ds when he got to around 12ish months & he was just feeding before a nap - he was sleepy & just wanted a feed to help him drift off. so i guess once it was less about food & more about comfort, itms? but every bfing journey is different of course!

hang in there, i hope the aba meeting is a help

You can get through this BAL! It won't last forever. The ABA group will be a great place to start. You and J have come through much harder battles than breast refusal and beaten them.

How is his growth coming along? I know it's not a comparison, but DD2, who is about the same age corrected is really only feeding once or twice between 6pm and 6am. If she was tube fed overnight that would really cut down her day time feeding too! Maybe J is getting a lot of what he needs atm through the tube? What is the plan with tube feeds going forward?

BAL, you are doing such an awesome job feeding your little boy. Not sure if you are doing oral tube feeding or through his tummy. Some people find that baby won't feed during the day, but will when baby is sleepy.

Breast refusal doesn't usually go forever, and baby will come back to the breast. If he likes the bath or shower, spend some time relaxing and enjoying each other. I hope you get some help on Tuesday.

Jennifer13 - We are hoping that once he starts solids we can cut tube feeding a bit. I am going to do a combo of BLW and puree, but I have been reluctant to start him while all this refusal has been happening. I feed him probiotic powder mixed with EBM on a spoon. He sees the spoon coming and he gets excited. He watches me eat and reaches out. He's sooo ready!

Thanks to everyone so much for the support. We are still going and things are a bit better. He fed yesterday and has fed today.. Yay! I went to an ABA meeting today. It was good. It was only a small group so even though the topic was BF in the Early Days, we still had time to discuss other stuff. Like breast refusal lol! I practically dominated the group with my questions etc.. They were all fantastic and very encouraging. There was a woman there who exclusively expressed and bottle fed for 10 weeks then finally her baby latched and they have been going well since and he's 11 months now! That gave me hope. She was told that she couldn't BF but persisted and it paid off.

That's what I want.. Many people are giving me permission to give up (If that makes sense). They think they are being supportive, but I need support and encouragement to keep going! I WANT to breastfeed. If I wanted to bottle feed I would be. Anyway, I feel really supported by the ABA, and DS's still gaining weight so I have relaxed a bit for now! Thank Goodness. It's awful feeling the way I was.. I guess I have the fear that he'll never come back to the breast..

ETA: I'm also taking him to another osteo today. He does craniosacral therapy which I've heard people swear by when it comes to bubs.. Fingers crossed!

I have to get a mole cut off one of my breasts. it is couple inches away from the nipple. has anyone else had to do this while breastfeeding? Just wondering how much pain i am in for, and if it would be affected by feeding.

Hi everyone, I have a question that I haven't had to worry about before lol. Phoebe is nearly 14 months old and still only wants to breastfeed. She will eat weetbix but not anything else. I'm starting to wonder if I should cut back on the b/f's and try introducing more solid food or should I just follow her lead and keep b/fing until she seems ready to eat? I haven't had any of the other kids b/f for this long so this is something new for me

    Hope it goes ok HotI

KimB - Do you have any concerns regarding her growth or development? Some kids do take longer to eat. Some have good reason to - like allergies for instance. And sometimes there are other health/development considerations. Might be an idea to talk to your nurse or gp if you're worried (they will very likely tell you she needs to eat, but at least they can check her over in the process)

Query - those of you who've had bubs go more than 1 day between poops, did bub have lots of wind and trouble getting it out? Ds2 (9wks) seems to have a lot of wind and usually needs help getting rid of it via his bum at least 3 times a day if not more. It's got to the stage of me bicycling legs & folding ds2 in half almost each nappy change just to make sure it's all out. He fidgets when trying to feed if it's not out the lower end. He doesn't seem to be vocally upset just very wiggly and grunts a lot overnight (most noticeably but does also do this during the day) while trying to get the wind out. He has also visibly had wind trapped and we've been seeing a Chiro to help. Ds1 pooped daily if not more often so the pooping less often is new to me.
