Thanks for sharing your story, I'm very glad to hear you had a positive experience![]()
Hi there,
I wish I would of been shown this a few months ago, so I have decided to share with you. This is written by a mom talking about her first Caesarean experience and guess what? it is POSITIVE.
I have had an interesting run down of horrible C sections (not surprisingly but people who have no had one but "heard" of one happening with someone they knew who knew someone ect... with the very odd story thrown in about a positive one but this lady sums up her experience wonderfully. Thought I would share as I personally found her insights valuable. Even though I have no other choice but caesarean. It is so nice to hear something so positive for a change. I cannot wait to share my story.. Not long to go now. : )
"I had a planned C-section for the birth of my first child 4 months ago. I am writing this post partly because in my extensive research on Cesarean deliveries, i discovered an undertone of general disapproval or and attitude of "failure" if a mom gave birth through a C-section. I feel my C-section experience was a wonderful, enjoyable, respectable way to give birth and i feel people who want a c- section should be allowed to pursue that option without judgment from others.
About 3 weeks prior to my due date i began to feel very strongly that i needed to deliver via a c-section. My baby was not breech, and i did not have a severe anxiety about childbirth. I usually do not have strong intuition about most events in my life, and am pretty conservative and conventional in most respects. Anyway i could not get over this strong feeling and mentioned it to my doctor. He told me if I wanted, I could plan a c-section, and advised me of the pros and cons. He stated that in most planned c-sections, the procedure is actually safer for the baby and just as safe for the mother as in a vaginal birth. We went ahead and scheduled the c-section and I prayed that i was making the right choice.
I checked into the hospital at 6 am, was in the OR at 7:30, and my son was delivered by 8:00 am. There was no pain, just pressure, with the procedure. My husband held the baby next to me while my OB completed the sutures. I was wheeled to the recovery room for about 40 minutes, where i fell asleep until my husband and baby came back from the nursery.
At that point, my OB came in and told us the baby's umbilical cord had been wrapped around his neck twice and then looped through "like a hangman's noose" (can you believe he used that term?) . He stated i would have required an emergency c-section if i had gone into labor, and even then, the tightening of the cord around the baby's neck would have cut off oxygen and could have caused brain damage. Needless to say, i was so relieved that i had followed my gut feeling and demanded a C-section.
The epidural which completley numbed my legs began to wear off within a few hours of the delivery, and i did not feel any type of abdominal pain that day. The next morning i was out of bed and was able to walk the hallways of the hospital, change my son's diaper, and move around just fine.
The worst pain i experienced was a feeling of soreness in my abdomen similar to when you do too many sit ups or strain your abdominal muscles. I never once had any sharp pain or any unbearable pain whatsoever. I was on Lortab pain medication for the next two days, at my discretion, and then on to occasional Ibuprofen when i needed it, which wasn't often.
As for the following weeks, I did take it easy and didn't do any strenuous lifting, hiking, etc. But i was able to do normal activities around the house, and even take walks around our neighborhood, shorlty after the surgery. By six weeks I was cleared by my doctor for normal exercise, sex, etc and was feeling great.
A planned C-section is not for everyone. I know some people judge harshly when they hear of people choosing a c-section, or choosing anything they consider not to be "natural" childbirth. People try and scare you when they say "but it's major abdominal surgery!" and yes, it is surgery for sure. But I am not dealing with any tearing, episiotomy, incontinence, or loss of pelvic floor function, or sexual dysfunction which can sometimes (not always!) accompany a vaginal birth. My cesarean was the best experience i could have hoped for, and certainly was the best for my baby, and i would do it again in a heartbeat."

Should just mention above is another moms experience. My planned Caesar is for the 16th of March. : ) Just found it and thought I would share all the same. : )
I had 2 great cs 1 emergency and 1 elective. Both I enjoyed and yes i would have loved a natural birth but hay I have 2 healthy boys to show for my cs.
My elective 1 was awesome as DS2 was with me the whole time only leaving theatre with DH to go to recovery room while they changed me back to the bed from operating table so max 10 mins apart from me and then was with me in bed from when i got to recovery.
People have this habbit of telling people how much a failure they are or cop out for having a cs and everyone knows a horror story or 2 but to be honest majority of cs are great for all involved. Things go wrong in natural births as much as cs.
I had a very positive elective caesarean too with DD2 after a very negative post-birth recovery after my VB with my first daughter. One day I'll get around to writing my birth story about my caesar. And, that was despite a few people on BB trying to tell me that I didn't need an elective caesar, like they would know my situation better than me and my physios. Some people just don't get that not everyone's situations and experiences are the same.
Wishing you a very wonderful caesar!
Aside from my issues before the first, and after the second c-section both of mine went well and I believe that yes I had a c-section but I did not fail my babies in any way... they are here, they are healthy and we are happy... my third one will hopefully be more positive that the last two but again I am just playing it by ear
So bloody true. I am weeks away and just searching for all the positive stories I can get my hands on. Glad your experience was wonderful. I even get no more then a minute away from bubs. Something I was told was not possible. *Apparently there will be hours apart from when I see bubs.. *so not true. : )
I was happy with the 10 mins as i knew DH had him and no one else.
Good luck with yours, an elective cs generally is a nicer experience as no rushing all calm and exciting!!!
Thanks Feeb : ) I hear you and I am happy to hear that it was only a short time for you too. : )
Fionas: Let me know if you ever write that positive story would love to read it! and thanks. : )
Danielle: Good luck, your not far off now! Hope it is everything you want it to be and more! : )
Might not have been true in reality but I FELT like I spent less time apart from DD2 (Csection) than I did with DD1 (VB). With DD1 I was completely exhausted (long labour) and had to have a couple of stitches. DP took her off for weighing etc. whereas with DD2 they just completed the end of the surgery while I had cuddles with DD2 then DP took her away and honestly it felt like 10 mins. She was with me in recovery and the midwives attached her for a breastfeed straight away so that actually happened earlier than it did with DD1.
I has a good experience with an 'emergency' c-section after a failed induction. My midwife, OBS, Anesthetist and other nursing staff were awesome prior, during & after my c-sect. My recovery was excellent too. Best of luck
I also had a good c-section experience ('elective' due to breech) - I was able to breastfeed in recovery and definitely felt like I had enough contact with DD. My physical recovery was pretty good, I was happy to take what ever painkillers were offered while we were in hospital but only needed them for a few days once I got home. I did however end up with a bladder infection (linked to having a catheter) and simulatneously, mastitis - so that wasn't too fantastic!
GL with the arrival of bubba in just over a month![]()
My c-section experience was very positive. It wouldn't have been my first choice but DS just would not engage and the head was still too high to be induced. The only time he was away from me was when I was being stitched up and he was being checked, and DH got a chance to fawn over him and have a first cuddle.
My only probs were that I was very very shaky throughout (apparently normal) and that I was nauseas afterwards as I was given some drug to shrink my uterus. I vomited once and while I was feeling so sick it was a bit unpleasant but it passed quickly.
My recovery was brilliant and I have a tiny, barely visible scar. One of my mother's group girls had a c-section on the same day and hers was emergency and her recovery was not as easy as mine - I hear this is common.
I am having another one for this bub in July and am not worried about it at all. Good luck!
I had an awesome c section. DH was with me, he got to cut the cord and i got skin to skin straight away. Its been 3 weeks and i feel totally recovered and my little boy is just the most precious thing ever!
My experience was very similar and just as positive!
I was induced but the labour didn't progress so after 10 hrs c-section was done. I was very lucky also as my bub's UC had a knot in it (just not tightened) and was wrapped around his neck twice.
I had no pain and only took ibuprofen for 1 day after c-section then no further meds used.
I was up and walking 10 hrs after the op and had a wonderful wonderful experience! If we do have another bub I will request a c-section next time.
In fact, the worst part was getting the staples out!
Another one here that had a great c/s experience. My 5th was done due to pre eclampsia but I got to hold her while I was still on the table and then DF took her into recovery where the midwives undid my gown and gave us skin on skin time. They waited almost an hour to weigh and do the stats and this was after she did the breast crawl and had her first feed. I had the same midwife all the way through and couldn't have been happier. I might end up having another c/s with this new one but now I'm not worried as I know what to expect. Good luck with it all.
I had a great experience with my c/s- same as a PP, "elective" due to bubs being breech.
I was nervous right up until she was out.
I couldn't feel anything and everyone is the room were so friendly talking to DH and I![]()
DH took DD off to get weighed while I was being stitched up, then my MW bought her into recovery and helped me to breastfeed for the first time.
I did feel incredibly shaky that night due to the oxytocin- I asked for no more of that.
Had her at 4.37pm and up, showered and walking around by 9am the next day.
Felt a little tender for a few weeks, but other than that- I felt GREAT!
Only thing that i wish was done differently, is my scar is not as neat as some others I have seen.... But it still looks ok![]()

Just wanted to add - as DD was coming out it was the most amazing thing, Dr says "we've got a leg... (she had to come out breech)... another leg.. we've got a bum... we know what it is (at this point I say to DH "it's definitely a boy then")" and then they held her up and DH's first reaction was "it's a baby... it's a girl!!" ha haha. Still gives me goosebumps just typing about it![]()
