Is anyone else out there really worried about having a big baby. My first was over 9 and a half pounds although that was nearly 10 years ago. And is there anything you can do to make them not so big, I know that sounds stupid but I delivered my first one naturally and let me tell you it was not so fun and you also felt like you missed that whole tiny newborn stage, everything people had bought me didnt fit from day one. He went straight in to double 0's.
Hi 10ly's,
My DD was 9lb 12oz and sometimes I wonder how big the next one might be, but I have heard of people delivering bigger and being ok. My labour was just under 3 hours and I had 3rd degree tearing but It was a great birth. You're right, even when I look back at photo's, my daughter doesn't look 'tiny' to me. It was great though, because I guess they're a bit easier to 'handle'. I don't think there's anything you can do to make them smaller but were you overdue last time? If you were, that might not happen next time and if your Dr is concerned about size they might offer a ceasar?
Good luck with TTC your next 'Big Bub'!!
I have two girls, my first was 10 pound, then my second 15 years later was only 8 pound.
I know what you mean about not fitting into the newborn clothes and never having what feels/looks like a newborn but on the plus side the bigger babies are usually stronger, less delicate then smaller ones and they seem to have less feeding issues.
I don't think the size of the baby makes a difference to labour/birth, but where you are and who you invite to be with you.
Enjoy your next pregnancy without spending time worrying about the possible size of a baby, just eat good food, have as much exercise as feels right and trust that your body will grow the right sized baby for you.
i don't think you can do anything to make your bub smaller, and personally i wouldn't want to, i think labour andbirth are gonna be horrendous whether you have a 5pounder or a 10pounder. I had 2nd degree tear with a 9lb6oz bub, he wore 000 for 6 weeks and fiited into 0000 for 1.5weeks. Big bubs are easier to handle i reckon and also you don't have that huge worry about them losing weifght in the first week as they were so chubby to start with. i like to look at like my body is extra clever at pg for feeding my bub so well.
Goodluck with your next bub, remember as it isn't your first birth your body should be better at accomadating a bigger bub now anyway.
DS was 10lb 4oz, and fit 0000 nighties for about a week, and 000 til he was about 6-7 weeks old when he moved into 00s.
I hope when we have a number 2, he/she doesn't try to break any records, but I wouldn't do anything to try for a "smaller baby". I was lucky he was so big, because there was less fuss with my milk not coming in til day 5, and he didn't need comp. feeds.
I forgot to add that DS ended up with Talipes (curved foot bones) due to the lack of room in me. We are about to go for our 5th round of surgeries to correct the problems in another 8 weeks. We had plaster applied to his leg from the time he was two days old hence why he didnt fit any clothes as well. I am told that if our next baby is big as well they might have to induce quiet early to avoid it. It isnt just that I want a little baby. I am not going to activley try to get a small baby I understand that would be irresponsible and I will certainly be happy with what I get. Just wanted to get my big baby concerns out.
hi 10 long years i just wanted to say my last girl was 12 pound 8 and yes i delivered her naturally and i survied dont know how .they had no idea she was that big so i didnt get a choice they assure me if i decide to have another baby i will be having a c section.i know what u mean i always wanted a little baby didnt get one all my four girls were big not as big as jess but 9 pounders .when there big they dont stay babies for long its sad i always see these tiny little babiesand they seem to stay that way for ages.
10longyears - im really sorry if my post upet you and sounded like i was putting you down for wanting a smaller baby, thats certainly not how i intended it to come across, i was just hoping to make you feel a bit more positive about big babies. At least this time around you know about any problems that can arise and will be monitored to prevent them happening again. Goodluck with everything
I do agree bigger bubs are easier to handle, I didnt take offence, I just dont want people to think I just want a little baby for the sake of it. I definetly dont think size has anything to do with a better labour I have heard some shockers from people with the littlest babies, my labour wasnt all that bad (ok crowning for 6 hours did suck) with a big baby, it is more from the complications I had with a bigger baby. Thankyou for your thoughts though I really is appreciated, I have no family here and most dont know we are even TTC (its been 10 years they have all given up hope) and my own mum doesnt want me to have anymore so I cant discusss anything with her, its nice to have a place to get those thoughts out in a non judgemental environment.
A friend of mine had big bubbas as well at 12lb2oz and 12lb9oz they were just so gorgeous and squishy
I guess I can understand your apprehension about having another big bub but rest assured that girls have torn from birthing little babies so it's not always the size that dictates the ease of delivery. My SIL had an assisted delivery with an episiotomy and vacuum extraction for her baby and she was 6lbs.
Also subsequent births are easier to push out due to the tissues already being stretched from the first birth.
Do you think you are still as stretchy even if it has been 10years???? I feel like I am starting all over again. Just wondering if the rest of my body feels the same way.
i had a eight year gap your body handles it fine it does feel like your starting all over again i think i was more tired that was about it but does cause i was running around with the three bigger girls the only time i got to rest was when they were at school even then u have things to do at home so really i was resting that much.i think you will be suprised your body will be just fine
