    Vit B6? Luteal Phase Lengthening...

    I have a Luteal Phase averaging 9 days which i've read it too short to support a pregnancy? So reading some more ive come across a lot of places/forums claiming vitamin B6 will help you to lengthen your Luteal Phase. Has anyone ever tried this? Successful? Not successful? Also, would i take it everyday or for a certain number of days at the begining of my cycle? I've read a lot of different things ... i've tried to discuss my short LP with my doc who dissmissed my concerns (currently searching for a new doc) ... any info or knowledge would be a great help! TIA

    Hi Amy, from what I have read, yes 9 day LP is too short to support a pg. I have read that B6 can certainly be helpful. I actually started taking this myself, then read that you shouldn't take more than 200mg a day, the tablets I was taking were 240mg a tablet, so be careful what you buy. I have now switched to 50mg tablets. The other herb that can help regulate your cycle is Vitex (Agnus-Castus) but note must not be taken once you get a BFP. I have mostly read good things about this, but have also read some negative side-effects, so I wouldn't recommend taking it before seeing a naturopath. My LP is 11-days, so may be fine, but I have heard can be borderline, before my loss it was longer. If I don't conceive this cycle I have decided to see a naturopath and get the right herbs / dosages for me, I assume this may save a lot of time and stress, so I recommend that to you as well. All the very best.

    Hi Aamy

    I had an OK-ish luteal phase length, but when TTC naturally did dabble with B6 and after just two weeks it extended my luteal phase by one day. Chatting to other TTC gals on other forums, they have found a one-day extension to pretty much be the same for them. Generally, 75mg is a good place to start. You can gradually increase this - optimal dose is 100mg. It is true you should not take more than 200mg per day as it can cause permanent nerve damage. B6 (as well as B12) will also help you absorb folate (B9) - a very important TTC and early PG vitamin. BTW, your multi will have some B6 in it, so be sure to include this in your daily dose. B6 can be bought cheaply at the chemist as "Pyroxin" - it comes in 25mg and 100mg size.

    HTH and all the best TTC

    B6 Non Success for me

    Hi everyone;

    I thought I should post to say it unfortunatly hasn't had any effect on my LP at all, in fact my cycle is getting shorter. I have been having IVF Stims though.

    However, I have been taking it religiously for 6 months or so, with a ****tail of vitamins etc. My next step is off to a Natropath to see if I am missing something...

    I am not saying it wont work for you AAmy, just thought I would post a non success post

    I used the blackmores B6, one a day, and I think it helped me out. I was also taking Blackmores b12 and a megafol. But keep in mind that the change will not happen overnight, it may take a couple of months to see.

    As for the side effects, it is from prolonged use, so keep an eye on yourself, and also don't take any other supplements with B6 in it.

    And when you get pregnant, you can keep taking the B6 in the first trimester, and drop it off after 12 weeks. It can help with morning sickness.

    Also, have you thought of seeing a nautropath who could put together a program of vitamins and suppliments for you? Good luck TTC.
