No shakes or pills here either. I have lost weight with them before only to pile it back on...and some! The only time I am ever successful is when I change my eating habits and exercise.
je$$, I'm doing WW, but with Ultra Slim shake first thing in the morning. It costs about $18, and says there's about 13 serves. The tin reccommends replacing 2 meals with it, but I'm only replacing one meal and it'll last longer. My mil gave me some left over shakes and soups from her TF days, will try them soon!
HELP!
Those on Weight Watchers! I have 8 points left for today and we're going to Fasta Pasta for dinner for my sisters husband birthday! What can I have !?!??!
Getting back on track here. Whilst there is chocolate in the house, I don't see a real problem with a Ferrero Rocher day I had a look at Calorie King, it says I need to be on 2000 calories a day, the amount of carb it suggested just shocked me. Still debating whether to use it to track my eating, thinking I might be better off just working out what a good carb level is for me and just monitoring that. Have an online friend who really understand carbs and breastfeeding, so I will see what she says.
Exercise today has consisted of chasing after one of the goats for 20 minutes, gee the silly girl can move fast.
scone- you should be fine so long as you stick to tomato based pasta's (vegetarian ones will be the lowest), make suer you only order a small or entree sized serving, have a side salad with your meal to help fill you up, and stay away from garlic bread, because from memory 1 slice will be at least 6 points. Also try and drink water or diet drinks, and if you really feel like desert maybe share one with your DH, and remember to go for an extra long walk tomorrow. Oh and a good tip I learnt for a ww leader was to always order your meal first so you cant be swayed by other peoples choices and change your mind.
Ali - I just looked at the Fasta Pasta menu on their site, and omg, almost everything is cream based! There is one thing I love there , and always get it, will just have to WALK tomorrow! Thanks again!
Yeah for small mercies - I wanted a snack... I was feeling a bit peckish - and I had a sliced up carrot.... me!! I did that! I said no to bickies and loads of other crap and I had a carrot!!
Went to the Zoo and whilst everyone ate their chips and hamburgers etc with coke for lunch- i had vegetarian sushi, fruit salad and water. I enjoyed eating it and was so proud of my self for making the correct choice. I haven't done any "exercise" as such but I'm sure pushing a pram and carrying a 2yo around for a minimum of 4hrs in the stinking heat counts for something. I need to nip to the shop and will take the dogs for a walk down when it cools a little then DH and i going to have a wii tournament tonight. Its funny DH wants me to lose a few kg's but all day has been asking me if i want ice creams, coke, chocolate etc etc i told him he knows I'm been good and his response is well you don't have to starve yourself. He has seen me eat but thinks if i don't eat rubbish I'm starving lol.
OHH proud of myself this morning for breakie i really wanted raisin toast with lots of butter. I let myself have one piece but didn't use ANY butter i just cut a banana up to put on top.
I did have a few sips of DH soft drink in the car on the way home as i was out of water and dying of thirst but other than that a ripper day for me.
Good for you TK! I was tempted by a fruit cake thingy in the fridge but I had the size one one teaspoon...jeez thats sad lol. I'm off to go for a bike ride now, lets hope my bum still fits on the seat lol
I've spent the WHOLE day putting furniture together and dragging a bed downstairs to the garage - that is my exercise for today - salad for dinner tonight
Girls, just a note, based on my personal experience, with Calorie King.
It is a brilliant tool.
The calorie intake it gives you does, however, always seem to be high. You can however, change these figures in your CK profile.
My personal trainer is a real advocate of Calorie King, and is adamant that I still maintain a food diary through Calorie King (which I do, and it keeps me SO on the straight and narrow!) BUT for fat loss, she has put me on 1200 cals. (I am no longer BF'ing.)
That 1200 cals is broken down into:
26g fat
135g protein
105g carbs
This is easy to do, and is loads of foods, but is only a lot of food if I choose really healthy options.
The moment I have a "blow out" of any description, those figures are all out of whack.
BUT, the good thing about it, combined with 6 x 45 mins of exercise per week, is that the high level of protein means that my metabolism has sped up amazingly.
For example, the past fortnight I have indulged in all the usual Christmas "stuff", I have not counted calories at all, and I have not put on any weight at all........
Just my experience, so thought I would share........
Lucy, how do you set the figures in the profile... it is probably really obvious but I can't seem to find it. Also, can I ask your opinion - I thought 1500 was pretty ok - and I feel better when I come in under it... so should I just leave it?
WOW, you girls can talk!!!!!!! Took me half an hour to catch up!
Well, I've had a pretty good day today too. Eating well and have exercised. Breakfast of toast and vegemite and coffee with skim milk at about 5.45 (DD is a VERY early riser-5am today !) then rice bubbles with banana at about 7.30, then we went to wiggles playland and I chased DD around there for an hour, and had a ridiculously expensive chicken, cheese and avocado sandwich and water, and dinner was chicken, salad and pasta. Snacks of fruit and I just had a nestle low fat choc mouse, YUM! And lots of water in between.
Not really, really great eating (rice bubbles should have been porridge or weetbix or something better, white bread for sandwich, pasta at dinner I could have easily not had and probably had too much sweet fruit like nectarines and mango) but much better choices and the best I could make while out too.
I went for an hour walk pushing DD in the pram, then I went up the shops later which was a 20min walk. As well as chasing DD at wiggles! So very good for exercise! Hope I can keep that up!
I'm not doing any kind of diet or shakes or anything here, just trying to make the right choices. I know about healthy foods (GI, low/salt, portions, servings per day, calories/kj, blah blah!) and I know what is optimal for weightloss for me. If I could afford it I would do weight watchers and get a gym membership, but I can't so I will do it this way! I am a member of Calorie King too, but I'm just too lazy to use it all the time! I do use some recipes, and I have calculated my calories etc. I would be on 2000 a day too, cause I'm still bf'ing, which does seem alot. For those of you on higher calories and having trouble eating the right amount, you could try having the full fat versions of things- milk, cheese, yoghurt.....all healthy foods when not eated to excess!
I'm a chocaholic too, especially when AF is due. I just can't even have chocolate in the house cause I have absolutely no willpower with it. I would just eat the lot. If I want it I have to walk up the shops to get it. Sweets are my downfall. I have a hugely sweet tooth. I have no other addictions, I can look at chips, soft drinks savoury snacks and not want them at all, but sweets, any kind- cakes pastries, chocolates, bickies- I will devour in a second, LOL! That's why I have gotten myself some of the nestle desserts. I don't normally eat 'low' fat' diet stuff (even when on WW I just tried to make the right choices and eat a little of the fatty stuff like cheeses and yoghurt, only low fat I have is skim milk) especially with artificial sweeteners in them, but these are yum! And they will satisfy my sweet tooth when I'm DESPERATE.

Pam thanks again for pointing me in the right direction
OK after the recommendations from you lovely ladies, I have joined Calorie King and I must say I am hooked already. I love the food diary, it is so easy to use. My calorie needs came back as 1900 for bf, which is pretty reasonable. I will try it for a week and see how I'm coping and whether or not I can cut it back.
Anyone else starting to feel a bit more energetic?
Boy, its been a long day, I'm so tired. We got home late. I haven't done too well today, I didn't eat juck but I ate way too much. Everyone seems to be going well, Congrats.
Hi ladies - am joining in on this great challenge and hoping to work on completing my weight loss journey. I used to weigh 146 kg, i am currently 94kg and aiming to get down to 73 kg which would be half my body weight. I WAS down to 79kg for my wedding last october but with blisfull honeymoon phase, stopping smoking and christmas blowouts have put back on 15 kg in less than 3 months I have also used TTC as a bit of an excuse, feel a bit paranoid about v.low calorie diet when TTC, but realise at 94kg i am still so overweight it will prolly have worse affect on TTC chances than the diet if i am sensible about it, so no more excuses!!!!!!! Only just found out about this challenge today, but i did weigh in at 94kg on new years day.....
tk1999 - nice to see you here (we are TTC 1-6mths buds!) Congrats on the carrot choice- i actually find carrots a great snack, crunchy and a bit sweet- well done!!
Lilias - dont worry about the one hour walk time - i actually quite like that first walk of a new exercise regime, i think of it as my "baseline" time i am setting so i almost WANT it to be bad - it is so exciting to see the time improving and usually quite quickly! I hear you both on the emotional eating thing and the portion sizes. Portion size is a huge one and you honestly get used to eating way less and it can be done very slowly. For example when i weighed 146 kg i would eat TWO FOOT LONG SUBWAYS EASILY!! Now i will have a six inch and if i want something with it just a piece of fruit. I also have my phases on and off using lite'n'easy dinners and i was SOOO hungry at the start but got to a point where i sometimes struggled to finish it.....
Laranna - YUM, love a choc paddle pop, i love it best with a banana paddle pop chaser unfortunately!!! But still a paddle pop is a good lower cal snack - cant remember as i dont really count cals, but 120-ish cals?? I also like just having water icypoles in the freezer sometimes, something yummy and bright looking like the lifesaver icypoles and they feel like a real treat i think around 50 cals? Also re running i believe the couch to 5 km is a great program. I have done running and went from barely being able to walk up and down my street to running a 10 km fun run non stop - this prolly took me 6 months or more but what a great feeling....i would love to run again but have a few hesitations re injuries and also personal phobias of pounding the pavements while TTC even though i know its unfounded i have a mental block on it and think i will stick to walking for the mo.- still i did find for me that nothing dropped the weight like running. The effects on mental health were awesome too. I would just measure a 5km course from your home, time yourself walking it a few times the first week and then each time just try to jog small sections with walk breaks and build it up till you can do it non stop, you will be surprised how quickly you can do it!!!
Also, re when sick or anytime when having take away its more the choice you make - i reckon subway is the best. Also to keep a couple of frozen diet dinners in the freezer and some of those steam fresh vegies that you chuck in the micowave and buy a bbq chook (skin off) or grilled piece of fish to go with it.....
HPsmum - congrats on the BFP!!!, i will interested to see how you go as i am worried how i will deal with weight control when UTD (currently TTC #1). I thought of seeing a dietician for advice on this.
je$$84 - i am quite anti shakes and pills but just personal opinion/experience. Weight loss is such an individual thing its a matter of working out what suits you, your lifestyle, motivation style and personality. For me the shake and pill thing seems unnatural and also a shake to me is depriving me of food. I am not a believer in consuming many if any calories in liquid form. I have one small juice most mornings and other than that drink diet coke or water.
Overall guys i firmly belive that there is no real mystery to the mechanics of weight loss- it is an input versus output thing. If u burn more than you eat you lose weight-up to you if you eat better, exercise more or both. The mystery i believe is more in the psychology of weight loss and that is EXTREMELY complex. I really think we all know HOW to lose weight but unlocking the mystery as to WHY we don't do what we know is best for ourselves is the key. Do we not think we are worthy of such health and happiness?, do we believe we are putting our kids first and forgetting giving our kids a healthy and happy mum is one of the greatest gifts? (should point out i am not a mum, but try and encourage my mum friends that they need to be looked after too). Do we eat to console and congratulate rather than to sustain? Do we eat to protect ourselves? Most of us if we have a good look at it can identify some personal issues that should be given some thought and that if we can reframe some of the negative forces/feelings in our lives would better succeed with our weight loss.
Sorry i have been so long winded ladies, but this is a topic i am pretty passionate about as you can see! - i have done well with weight loss but still find it a constant battle - even though i have figured a lot of the head stuff out, living it on a daily basis is still a struggle. It is just so awesome to see all you lovely ladies supporting each other and i look forward to being a part of it all with you!!! (Promise not to post so long in future!!!)
