    hi all!

goodness, have no idea what everyone has been talking about sorry as have been doing night weaning with my bub.. going well so far (is night four tonight), touch wood.

hi there sterla! welcome! sorry if you're not wanting to hear this but frankly am not an advocate of trying to ease out of bad food, but then this has always been my way. either it's in or it's out lol. if you want my advice, it's easier to go cold turkey and get it over and done with. i cut out refined carbs after 3pm, butter, baking, cheese (except cottage cheese), potatoes, all fluids other than water, tea, lemon juice and milk (i drink soy), snacks close to meal times... i can't think if there was anything else... the first week was easy, the second i dreamt about cake, the third was a walk in the park and it has been since then. now i don't have refined carbs at all almost as i eat a bowl of porridge for breakfast. the only exception is the rare occasion i have a piece of toast, i needed the slice of toast to fill me up when i started this journey but now it is usually unnecessary.

i've lost around 7kg in just over a month. i looked at myself in the mirror this morning before getting in the shower and i thought "wow! i almost look like me again!" (well except for thigh lumps, nice flat tum though!...ex-dancer and model)... what can i say, it's worth it! get tough hun!

oh and one tip i've been offered from two separate people, so surely worth trying out, was to have a glass of water with a lemon squeezed into it first thing in the morning. apparently does something to get your metabolism going.

livvy I have heard about the lemon thing as well - my MIL does it and swears by it just for general health and wellbeing!

beckoes - forgot to have a giggle with you at the chick peas - mine tonight was diced tomatoes and cannellini beans!!

Thanks for the link livvy. Ive just saved it to my favs to check out further tomorrow.

Well I only did 20mins on the wiifit as DD was screaming, eldest DD was been a bully and I promised DH a massage. Forgot to post my weigh in. I'm finally under 80 woo bl-ody hoo lol. 79.6kilos. I'm so excited. Still a long way to go and I know what a struggle its going to be getting into the 6's. I doubt I'll get there this year but we will see. I lost a total of 1.7kilos this week. Mostly I think as I started exercising (I didn't so any when I first started in May) plus I have drastically reduced my carbs and sugars. I dont think I will loss much each week from now on in. So far since May I've lost 7.1kilos but I had 5-6weeks break and have only been back to it for 2 weeks.

BB in the morning. Going to try my new shrink DVD in the morning. Probably half kill me.

Golly girls, 9 pages inthe new thread and I've not posted yet! Doesn't mean I've given up though! I've have a few bad days, being af is here - but I am seeming to maintain if not a slight loss - about to embark on census delivery, so there's going to be a really decent amount of exercise happening soon! Clothes are nice and loose around the tum now!

well done ausgirl, sounds like you're going great! have fun with the census delivery, i love doing that kind of thing! gives my walks such purpose! i much prefer them to have purpose you see... sort of feel a bit lost without purpose, although my weight loss goals have given them their own new purpose which is great!

off to bed now - also just wanted to say, i put on my jeans yesterday when they were just clean out of the wash (so all shrunken again) and they were loose everywhere and blatantly too big around my hips/lower abdomen. so yay! happiness!

oh and weigh in tomorrow/next day... wish me luck!

As for food - this is where I'm going to struggle the most. I think I need to take baby steps, gradually cutting things out. We are getting a thermomix (should arrive in the next few days!), so I am hoping that will help. One of my problems is that I simply can't be bothered cooking tea a lot of the time, so we often end up getting take out. I'm hoping having the thermomix will stop this, as cooking tea will be so quick and easy. Any advice for healthy eating is welcome!

    .
    Sterla

i see you and mel fantasising about your thermomix...do you know what i have no idea what it is, wait a sec...googleing....wow, its an all singing all dancing chef...sounds like it will definatley make cooking easier!and healthier.

i have been thinking about what you said about not knowing where to start with changing your diet, and i think livvy said something about going cold turkey...i kind of have to agree a little with that, i went cold turkey for a week, then thought i could have a little bit of choc in the house, but it just didnt work...i just ended up eating it all, feeling bad about it and then totally falling off the wagon and eating crap for days . I find that if just keep all crap out the house then if im going to have a little bit of 'sometimes food' (try not to call eating high fat/sugar foods 'naughty' or 'treats' to dd1) its when we go out and i might get a cookie to share with dd1 or if we are at a friends house/bbq and the food isnt what i would choose at home.
I have a few of those womens weakly cook books, low fat/healthy ones. and i find the easiest way for ME to keep my eating on track is to sit down at the begining of the week and write a meal plan...
i have the same breakfasts every day so thats easy, lunch is normally corn thins with some sort of topping, low fat philli with tomato, avo and tuna etc or some sort of wrap in mountain bread or wholemeal sandwich. or il finish of what ever i made for dinner the night before, there is normally something left. il normally have a snack at about 9 am and then something after lunch at about 2pm but its either fruit or nuts and tea and something little after dinner but i try to avoid fruit then.
as for dinner, im not the best cook and it would be so easy to just make what dd1 likes... beans on toast/spag bol etc every night. but i have been really motivating myself to COOK. new things every night, some nights have been out right disasters, some have been great and ive added a few new recipes to my 'use again book'. i think if you say you are used to getting take out food this is your biggest hurdle, even if you think your getting the healthy option its more than likly full of salt and hidden cals anyway. but like you said, the thermomix will change that!
im not a full on food nazi, although this is what works for some...i LOVE my food, and to me if i get too caught up in counting cals etc it takes the joy out of eating, (although i did count cals for a few days, just so i could get a better idea of how much i was actually ment to be eating to help me keep it in check) in my eyes food isnt just about feeding your body, its about nourishing your soul....without getting too deep ...but i still get enjoyment out of my food without it being full of butter/chocolate etc. i love baking. i love chocolate.but eating that sort of food every day wasnt going too well ive dropped about 1000 cals from my daily intake and i dont miss it after the first few weeks.
i guess what im getting at is you dont have to feel like you are being starved or denied the things you love, just try to find yummy alternatives and even if they dont taste the same the first few times i find i get used to the new version and eventually i cant imagine eating the original again

sorry for going on and on. good luck and i hope you find what works for you.

Ausgirl thats great news your shrunken jeans are loose.

Livvy woohoo on your weight loss. Thats fantastic. 4kilos is so close now.

I just measured my waist and its now 82cm except I have not lost anything from my thighs or arms. Thighs were still sitting at 66cm. Boo. My thighs are the things making me look the fattest.

I'm not sure what my problem is but I woke this morning feeling like I have been hit by a truck. I don't know how I can do this shrink DVD today. Its going to kill me when I feel like this. Oh well. I wouldn't do it when it arrived yesterday as I didn't want DH looking at me doing it for the first time but now his back at work I have no excuses.

Quick one here! Just wondering if there is a way to calculate how many cals burned for exercise?! Is there a way to work it out using heart rate? I don't have a HR monitor or anything like that.

Off to do kinder drop off and will go for a long walk with J in the pram before coming home to do the housework and then 30 say shred when kids nap later!

ETA: I think my RunKeeper might do it for me - will have to check!

A little woohoo for me!! Another loss!! Only half a kg.. but still!!! It is happening much quicker than i thought it would!! :-) I am still thinking its alot of fluid.. but whatever rocks itself off my socks.. i dont care!!!!! Off to do my squats!!!!

The only way I know Tanstar is when I am on the wiifit. I have a book that says how much calories you burn doing certain exercises like house work, walking, swimming, gardenin etc but it changes depending on how much you weigh. So a 70kilo lady will burn less then an 80kilo lady doing the same exercise according to this book.

    Yeah on the loss SB.

Thanks hun! I used my Runkeeper and it calculated it for me! 40 mins brisk walk with the pram and it said around 200 calories?! Hopefully that is roughly right!

Tanstar.. CK works it out for me. My bike also tells me. The only trouble i had with the CK was finding the right thing to input the calories that the wii told me i lost. I just had to keep trial and error til i found the something that inputted the right amount of calories...

Intersting though mildez about different weight burning different calories... i dont know how to work that one out!!

SB I don't think the whole how much you weigh is neccessarily the factor in how much calories you burn. I know if you were very unfit and quite large you would have to burn alot more calories then a fitter smaller person would. Your heart would be working harder doing the same exercise but then again I remember a lady I went to the gym with (several years ago) been alot larger then me (probably 50kilos or more) and she would be on the cross trainer going flat out for ages. Probably atleast 30mins and didn't look like she was working up a sweat and here was skinny me (back then) I couldn't even handle 5mins of the thing without feeling like a bucket of jelly and been bright red in the face. I bet my 5mins burnt as many calories as her 30mins. Well it certainly felt that way. Leesa could probably explain better. I guess at the end of the day you can never be sure exactly how many calories you have burnt.

I forgot to mention I discovered two days ago I can talk on the phone and exercise on the wiifit. Probably a recipee for injury and not plesant to whom Im talking to but still I can do them both at once
