I'm still hiding out - been using my pedometer daily (over 11 000 steps on weekdays but about 6-7 000 on weekends). Having had trouble getting the new TV set up properly and connecting the wii to it should manage that tonight after the cricket (DH has a friend from Whyalla staying o/night as well so they're going to have a go at it).
So my big effort is to make sure I'm walking over 10 000 steps every day and over 12 000 steps when at school. (So far today over 13 000 and I still have a fair bit of running around the house tonight yet)
Combat bit me. I was fine last night but woke up this morning and my knee is killing me.
I had a massage and it is a little better but i seem to have done a little tendon damage. I am gutted. I am bridesmaid in a wedding Sat week and i was hoping to shed a couple more kgs before then. I can hardly walk so wont be going to the gym.
Just a quicky ladies - how do I deal with shin splints?
My left shin is killing me and it started while running on the treadmill yesterday. I ran at about 9km/h for 4 mins then 13.5km/h for a min then back to 9 for another 4 mins then repeated the 13.5 min as warm up before combat class but by the time I got to combat I was aching & couldn't seem to get it to come right. What should I be doing?
Leesa - I love the idea of Biggest Loser at work, it would be great if you can train them. You'll have to let us know how you go. BTW - how exactly are you going to fit that in? You are going to need a time machine very shortly!
A good massuer will be able to help Winter. The pain gerally comes from the muscle being too tight. It's really hard to stretch that muscle, but if you wedge your foot under something heavy and lean back you can get a bit of a stretch. Otherwise i find those personal massagers from the shaver shop to be really effective on my shins.
Hi Winter! I used to get shin splints all of the time but went to a physio and she found that my feet were a bit flat. I now wear insoles in my shoes, especially soccer boots and joggers, and no longer get them or the knee problems I was also having. Even though my joggers had insoles it wasn't enough for my feet, so that could be something for you to consider. HTH!
Winter: I had shin splints many years ago from a day at the snow. The Dr gave me an anti inflammotory. Pretty sure it was just an over the counter thing.
MG: Sounds like you have a great oppurtunity to 'seize the day'! Go for it
daniellabella: That's great about what your Dr said
leesa: A Biggest Loser thing at work sounds great. We could do with one of those at our work! So many girls who are very very over weight and as our jobs are PC based they just do not get up from their seats, they also eat pretty terribly, it's like they have just given up, which is very sad. I work in government as well, if you have a good manager and explain the positive OH & S side of it and less sick days and so on I would think they would jump at it.
Well, cardio circuit was damn hard!! I loved it, got heaps out of it She did a combo of Thump, running then onto dumbells. It was tough going. I will keep it up as Wednesday's suit me. The only downside to today was I went to get Tess from the gym creche and she was soooo distressed They said they called me over the loud speaker, but I was in a class with loud music how am I supposed to hear that She was fine when I got her home.
Hope everyone else is doing well. Jungle Mum, how are you today??
Keep going Nettie and Leckert and everyone else
heather i HATE that! my DD2 is the same. more than a couple of times they have 'almost' called me to get her. it makes me dread the next time i have to take her. i am taking her on friday with her big sister so i am hoping they will be good together and have eachother to play with.
Still hobbling, but thanks for asking heather. Massage really helped and have been icing it regularly. I go to the gym at night now as my DD was very upset the only time i ever left her. It's heartbreaking when you come in to find them distressed.
Since i can't exercise i have decided to modify my diet. Have reduced carb intake as of this am. hopefully it doesn't mess with my milk supply.
I am so inspired by this thread! I don't have time tonight for much, but I love checking in and seeing what people are up to and saying what I've been doing.
Group hug girls as you ALL keep me moving!
PS. MG & Leesa - I practised my PT skills on DH again tonight, made him sweat!!!! I love making him sweat!!
Hi guys! I went to soccer training tonight. It was so nice - being outside on the grass with the rain and the wind. I loved it! I thought it was going to be hell as I only had 4 hours sleep last night because of work but instead it really energised me. Think I will make tomorrow my exercise free day though as I have ankle twinges and I am going to the zoo so will just try to do a whole lot of walking rather than anything big. Then Friday I will kick my mum up the bum to do an exercise video with me and Sat I will jog to prepare for a night of fun! Feel pretty good this week even if my eating has been a little big naughty.
Way to go Krys!! THat's fantastic effort! I can't wait to hear how you go in mid field position and 90 mins of running. You can do it!!
How are you going JungleMum? Still hobbling or on the mend?
Hollo - hoe did the girls go in creche today? What workout did you do?
Your cardio circuit sounds awesome Heather! You'll have to tell us how you go with them each Wednesday. I used to work with a bunch of women, we all did the same job - lots of seat polishing by bums involved, but I was the only one that wasn't overweight! It was incredible to me. I loved going to the gym after a day staring at a computer screen.
Way to go Nettie on the double reps!! WOOOO HOOOO! Now, do it again!
Leckert - your pedo steps are pretty awesome! Talk about walking your way to fitness! Come back & tell us all about it..
Hey Leesa - how did the red tape go for work Biggest Loser?
Coooooooooeeeeeeeeee - anyone know where CQ is?
How is the new PT MG? Are you feeling better about this one?? I have a good feeling about this for you.
YAY for normal gym routine Danni!! What's on the cards for this weekend?
AFM: This is my week:
Monday - Circuit - lots of pump style weight lifting with squats and lunges and chest presses on steps, with running and cardio stuff as well.
Tues - Combat with 10 min run to warm up beforehand
Wed - Circuit - this time outside doing runs around ovals, pulling tyres ala Biggest Loser, boxing, burpies etc Was really hard in the hot sun - was 38C so a bit silly really! Did 2.3 kms in 15 mins as warm up beforehand and was KNACKERED at the end!
Thurs - rest day - shin splints needed a day off!
Fri - Circuit again later - no idea what we'll be doing but the girl who runs Fridays generally pushes hard so yay!
Then tonight, I'll put DH through his paces again. I love doing this. I don't push him as hard as I should but he's generally pretty fit and gives it his all. I take what I learn in the circuits and then get him to do the same exercises down the park while DD is in the pram and we take the dog for a walk / drag - (new puppy learning to walk on lead). It makes me realise that with a little education, anyone can get fit, anywhere, using only the facilities of the local park.
My challenge to you ladies is to get your husbands & kids down to the park this w'end and do some exercise as a family. Would love to hear how you go!!
the girls were really good in the creche today! YAY! it is so hit and miss. i did combat and i dont think i like it..... :-/ or is it something you need to do a few times to get into?
Hollo: Need to do a few times to get into it. The first time I did it I was too busy trying to get the moves right to get a really good work out...second time was much better and then so on once you got the routine worked out. Attack is similar in some ways, in that it involves getting used to the moves.
Yes where is CQ????????
Winter: My DH is pretty fit, I rely on him to occupy the kids while I work out I said to him the other day about getting boxing pads as we already have gloves so we can work out together...he laughed a very funny laugh I'll just give him a nudge if he starts getting one of those old man bellies On the work thing, one of the ladies in my team had lap band surgery 2yrs ago and lost heaps from that, went in and took Tess last week and she is gradually putting it all back on again
Hollo: Have decided to do just my own work out next Wednesday at the gym and let the creche girls know where I am to see how Tess goes. I was bit freaked out on Wednesday as I had nevery heard her cry like that before and they made me feel a litle guilty that they couldn't get hold of me.
Well, I feel little sore after cardio circuit, it a great way though. I also like the instructore so once Tess settles down will be back into it as that is going to be the regular Wednesday class at 9:30am.
I think I will do RPM on Saturday??? I am deciding on that or Attack on Sunday, see how I go.
I got to Pump today. First time at the gym for about 2 weeks I think. Bonus though, I don't feel that I"ve gained any weight while I haven't been training...but that's thanks to this thyroid thing...I think (hope) it's starting to make me lose a bit of weight. (not so much weight but pudge).
Heather: Bugga about creche next week. Sounds like they need to have more workers to allow for more kids to come, it's not fair that people should have to miss out because of inadequate child minding.
Winter: Your week sounds busy. Will try to do some family exercise, even if we all just chase each other around the back yard...but not tomorrow coz it's gonna be 37 so I think a day indoors or by the splash pool is in order.
