Anyone else ashamed?

We do have a cleaner But only once a fortnight.

If your house is really messy, you escort your guest very quickly to the clearest spot and you do not, under any circumstances, draw attention to the mess.

i think my kids will say the same. i am working on decluttering but it is a work in progress.

My girls have only just stopped saying that But they do still want to know why we have to clean it all the time! (I was much worse back when I was with ex. When life in general is hell, the last thing you care about is playing house..)

I'm not ashamed of the way the house looks. I just don't have the time to keep it showroom perfect all the time - and I think my kids will thank me when they are older that they were allowed to *live* in their home instead of being an accessory in it kwim? I know of people who freak out at their kids for messing the house up and drive themselves mental trying to keep it up to a certain standard but lifes too goddamned short IMO. Plus we have an old, old house (like nearly 80 years old) so anything modern like electricity and plumbing, hell even the kitchen, is all added on so the house is a random jumble of rooms. And because of that it always looks cluttered even if I've had a huge clean up. So I'd say it's messy, but not dirty.

I'm quite proud of my inner domestic goddess today. My parents are arriving this afternoon so...

Last night she (my inner goddess) managed to prepare all ingredients for tonights dinner and bake cupcakes for my mum (it's her birthday)

This morning she tidied the house, plumped the pillows on the spare bed, iced the cupcakes, wrote on the birthday card, cooked up the chinese style pork (for tonight's fried rice), fed the toddler and managed to haul butt out of the house by 6.25am to go to work!

Well done domestic goddess - you have earned yourself a rather tall glass of wine when we get home from work!

Our house to a tee We even have outdoor cladding in the hall way due to the way it has been added on to. Outdoor cladding indoors is just a dust catcher.

The thing with this house is you can clean until the cows come home and it still looks messy because we have so much crap!

My house looks like a tip 99% of the time because I'm just too tired to clean up once DS finally goes to bed! The kitchen is usually the only clean room of my house.

Yep same here. My house looks like a dump. I'm actually taking a week off work to try & do something about it. That gives me 3 days when the kids are at kindy from about 8.30 - 4 ish to:
Clean & declutter entire house
Check FB & BB
Eat, nap, watch a movie
Visit a potential school for DS
Doctors appt for DD
Go to gym

So you can guess which item on the list is most likely not gonna happen I have set myself two tasks though - the study and my clothes. The rest can wait.

I try to keep on top of it Flylady style but it only takes one or two days of sick kids/ sleepless nights/ just being lazy & you're back to square one. I have more important things to do than spend all my life cleaning.

We do the massive cleanup when visitors are coming thing too. It's the only time the house looks half decent - just don't open bedroom or cupboard doors!

Yes! Most people we know have seen it at its worst tho. My friends know me too well to expect more! If there isn't toys and clothes and papers every where they normally comment!

We have an old house, plus we are fond of clutter. Even if cleaned, it does not look tidy, especially the evil carpet.

I am not a fan of when someone is complimented on a lovely home, they take all the praise and then you find out later that they have a cleaner. Nothing wrong with cleaner (MIL is one), just admit to it, so the rest of us don't feel like crud for our homes

My friends all have pristine homes and I was at my wits end trying to understand why I'm such a failure. Then I found out they all have cleaners and I was fighting windmills.

My house isn't a tip, but it's small and there's stuff without a place to go and it's sort of dark and not very cheery plus I don't have enough chairs so I rarely invite people over. However, last year ds' party was rained out so at the last second we had to have everyone in our tiny living room. I realised that having people over is not the end of the world and it is nice to have friends so I've invited friends around a few times since then.

I was out all day yesterday and when I came home, I honestly had a fleeting 'omg the house has been broken into' moment but sadly, that's just how I left it!

We were going away for a weekend. The house wasn't spotless and DH said "We can't leave it like this". I asked 'Why on earth not?" and DH said "What if someone breaks in? What are they going to think?"

Yep was for a while, bit better now. I make sure the beds are made, breakie dishes cleared before we get in th car to school and then I run back in and give the kids bathroom sink a wipe and check the toilet isn't festering. I can then cope with unexpected visitors

nope, I'm not ashamed at all =) I always have a empty couch space - for someone to sit, a clean cup - for them to have a drink, the loo if not clean, isn't disgusting, and if needs be there are clean sheets and a blanket in the cupboard if they stay. everything else doesn't really matter. besides, with company like me, who cares what the place is like

Yes.

And worse, a friend wanted to see me today to give me some awesome baby stuff. But I've been hardcore nesting and the place looks *amazing* for the last time possibly ever, and I made her meet me at a park so her kids wouldn't trash the place.

I'm probably more ashamed of having done that....
