No offense, but I think he is being a but childish about it and def selfish... Unfortunately it is not about him, it's about her, the fall out if she found out later in life would be so much worse than telling her now.

Him being away however is no going to help the situation, all he will be doing is sitting there worrying about the reception he will receive when he is home and is probably not handling the situation like an adult...
Let's face it, if he leaves he looses both his daughters, he is just reacting poorly.
I think it's important for both him and your daughter that they see each other soon and do something normal, the anticipation of seeing each other again will create anxiety and apprehension if that makes sense.
