You will get a medical certificate from the doctor for however many days you would like. I am amazed that your boss thought it wouldn't be sick leave. Actually it's none of her business really because if you have a medical certificate then that is the end of the story. It's a day procedure and you will be having some sort of sedative so you won't be able to work.
I had two days around OPU (that day and the one after). I didn't take any leave around transfer ... I just had a word to my boss and used a bit of flex time to run up the road and have the transfer done. Hope that helps a bit. =)
