I'm at MIVF at the Freemasons tooI can tell you that the anaesthetists at the Freemasons who do sedation for the OPU are nice - they answers questions and make you feel comfortable and confident - I've had two OPU's there. Your FS will drop in and see you and make sure you're feeling ok before the procedure too. The nurses in recovery are also lovely. I'm sure you'll be really well looked after, and they'll help calm your nerves over the procedure a bit when you're waiting to go into the operating theatre.
I've had Crinone after both of my stim cycles and it's as Adele says - a vaginal suppository. It's progesterone delivered in the form of a gel to help support your hormones in the TWW. I had to have them morning and night, but it's just as often prescribed only once a day. It gave me a bit of cramping (which is fairly common) and it's fairly normal after a few days of it to make you feel like your period is about to start (sore BB, bloating etc.). It can also sometimes cause you cervix to become irritated and give you a little bit of brown spotting (I've had that also). It's pretty yucky stuff, but you've just got to keep thinking that it's there to support your pregnancy - pregnant until proven otherwise, as Mon has often said
I thought I would just elaborate on what lovely Adele has said about the Synarel spray. It works on your pituitary gland and stops your pituitary from triggering your ovaries to produce your normal cycle hormones (as Adele said, just like going into induced menopause). This then means that the clinic has complete control over your cycle, and can stop your from ovulating naturally. This then allows them to super-stimulate your ovaries with the artificial stimulation hormones (the injections) and then trigger you to ovulate at the right time so they can collect the eggs just before ovulation occurs, without fear that you'll ovulate at the wrong time naturally. It's called down-regulation. It's fairly important that you take the Synarel exactly the same time each days, and that once you choose a time you have to stick to that time with exactly 12 hours between each dose. The effects I had from the Synarel were a few headaches when I got started (they tend to disappear after a couple of days when your hormone levels become more stable) and I gave myself a extra dose a couple of times after fearing that I hadn't inhaled it properly, which probably amounted to a double dose (silly Miss C!) and I got a few hot flushes from those times as a result (very silly Miss C!). It also gave me mood swings, but just about every hormone in IVF has! I tend to think the mood swings are a symptom of when your hormone levels are rising or falling, rather than being stable. Stable hormones = stable mood, in my book!
