    Default Nervous after 1st transfer

So at my 1st OPU on Good Friday they collected 10 eggs (out of 15 follicles). Boy was I shocked to phone on Saturday and be told that only 2 fertilized normally. Everything was going so well up till then.

Anyway I had my transfer on Easter Sunday - with 1 x 4 cell, grade 2 embie, and we froze the other one (also a grade 2). When she took out the speculum it was covered in blood, is this normal? Could it affect the success? I don't feel any different, and sometimes worry that I'm not DOING enough to help it work, but I don't know what to do.

And I'm peeing so much, my abdomen is actually a bit sore and tender especially if it has pressure on it (like needing a wee or tight pants). Is this right?

    Sorry for all the questions!

I understand you must be a little disappointed on the amount that fertilished, but congratulations on 2 good embies I hope this first one is successful for you!

I also bleed after transfer, from what I understand it's not uncommon, so don't worry about that!

Otherwise, everything else sounds perfectly normal, you'll be a little tender for a few more days, that's just from EPU, just drink lots of water and take it easy as much as you can!

Hope that helps a little Good luck!

Congrats on the transfer Janine...my 1st transfer will be today at 430pm, so I haven't had any experience yet, but just want to wish you luck on your 1st cycle and hopefully the discomfort soon will go away...

I have noticed that you had day 3 transfer, so your body is probably is still recovering from EPU, maybe that's the bleed...I had a bit bleed on the day of EPU also the day after, it is a very dark colour and the nurse reassured me that it is absolutely normal because it is old blood from the procedure and body is trying to get rid of it...I feel fine now...

I will let you know how I go today and if there is any blood afterwards....take care yourself

Good luck today BeiBei!!! What day transfer is yours then? Mine was actually a 2 day transfer.

Las, thanks for the reply, did you get implantation after the bleeding transfers? And, I'm really sorry for your losses! x

Janine - Thank you! My last cycle in February, I bled at transfer, but we did achieve a pregnancy which I m/c mid March. The previous couple of transfer I got BFN's. But please, don't let the bleeding worry you or think it may affect your outcome, ok??!!

Are you with Melbourne or Monash IVF???

Again, I'm so sorry for your m/c! I know its so hard x

Thanks for the reassurance! I'm with Melbourne. They've been good, but because everything fell over the Easter weekend, I didn't get seen by my own doctor once. (not once since the start of my cycle...) Scans by 2 different people, pickup and transfer by the covering doctor. I guess anything could still happen. I lost alot of hope when only 2 fertilized though. But maybe I'll be surprised. Are you supposed to feel anything if its working? I'm only 2dp2dt at the moment! Impatient huh??

I'm with MIVF too, have a wonderful specialist who was my Gyn to begin with so I've known him for many years! I see him at the satelite clinic in Ringwood and have transfers done at Freemasons.

It's hard when you see a different doctor for such important stages of the cycle, isn't it??!

Nah, you won't feel anything, not yet anyway, implantation can usually occur around 8-12dpo and you might get some spotting if it does, otherwise, any other obvious symptoms won't occur until around that time or after!

It's natural to be impatient though!!! Fingers crossed and lots of sticky vibes this is the one for you!!

    Hi Janine
I've only just registered today...so forgive me if I stuff this up...I had a similar experience with my IVF. Got 13 eggs at EPU and then only 3 fertilized. I was so excited that we'd got that far it never crossed my mind that they wouldn't all fertilize..so I totally get the 'shock' ...I was already choosing names!!! We ended up with two 8 cell embies which were transfered day 2. We then had the BFP (I've worked out what that means!!!) only to have HCG levels start to drop two blood tests later. The good news from the cycle was that they found out more about my eggs..apparently zona is made of concrete and won't let the poor little guys in...hence our move to ICSI and blastocyst transfer. It's taken us a while to get back to it but we're here now...have 10 big follicles waiting to go...EPU planned for Friday all going well.

Hope all goes well for you...sending lots of positives your way!

    Hi Janine,

Just an update on my transfer this afternoon, a day 5 blastocyst is snuggled in there, so I hope its super sticky. Its funny to see the two bubbles on the u/s when they show you....amazing though...

No blood after the transfer, but they did give me an information sheet after the procedure, which mentioned cramp and small amount of vaginal bleeding are normal, so I guess you don't have to worry too much. It should ease off tomorrow...ATM I feel a slight pressure on my tummy but that is all...

When is you pregnancy b/t? Mine is on 21 April...let's keep each other sane during TWW... and lots of

Thanks for all the help ladies!

Lisa, you're lucky to have such a good doctor. I may switch if this cycle is a bust. Surely some personal attention is not too much to ask? So I'll try not to imagine any symptoms till at least another week or so he he.

Ellie, welcome, and good luck for your upcoming EPU! Ten follies sounds great, at least this time round they know do do ICSI. I wonder if thats the same problem I have. Did your doctor tell you that? I feel left out in the cold with mine. He could've contacted me to let me know what went wrong or even to see if I'm still alive! I wish you the BEST of luck and a great fert rate on Friday!!

Bei Bei, my beta is on the 23rd. More than the 2ww I'm afraid... I know I could test on the 20th and be reasonably safe with my results though, that'd make it 14 days since EPU. Congrats on your transfer!! A blast is so exciting. I wonder whether mine even reached that stage. Its so hard to keep sane, we'll have to help each other (its both our first too...eeek). I also feel pretty bloated and I don't know whether its still from the EPU. My left ovary feels very tender and swells up whenever I need to pee, and thats very OFTEN these days. I wish you a wonderful 2ww and success at the end!

    Hi Girls

Janine - Funny story with us going to ICSI and Blast...FS said that's what we needed to do...when we met with the nurse she hit the roof! The debate is HOT whether to go to blast or not...I'm pretty confused by it all but DH has decided we should take it a step at a time and see what happens at EPU tomorrow. Triggered last night...scarey!!!! Hope all is going well for you and the next few weeks...fly by!!!!

BeiBei - Best wishes!!!! Thinking of you and your sitcky blast...fingers crossed!

Ellie, how exciting for your 1st EPU, wish you loads of luck! I am sure you will be cruising through it...about whether go blast or not, I think you doc will have a better ideas once he knows how many eggs retrieved and how many fertilized the next day...yeah, the trigger shot is a shocker isn't it? Lucky I didn't get a bruise from it...

Janine, I will be thinking of you on 23rd...how are you feeling now? Hope the bleed has long gone

Las, thanks for the good wishes, what stage you are in at ATM?

Yesterday was a bit dissapointing with nurse came back to us said that there is only 1 more 5 day blast is suitable for freezing, the rest start to fragmented and won't survive the thaw...I was hoping to have more than 1 since I have 15 eggs collected and 10 fertilized and 5 made to day 5, so it was a bit disheartening...anyway, the nurse said still it is a good result

I just hope this cycle is it, so I don't need another go anyway...hey here is hoping

Hi Lisa, I'm feeling okay, actually been pretty nauseus the past few days and bloated but I know both of those things are side effects of the Crinone and I'm only 4dp2dt today so its way too early for that. Maybe anxious too but thats very normal... Are you cycling at the moment?

Oh, my doc said 9 out of 10 eggs were mature so he doesn't know why they didn't all fertilize. But I guess the unexplained is maybe a bit more explained now... All that bonking over 6 years for nothing.

Ellie! Yahoo on the trigger, I'll be thinking of you tomorrow at pickup!

BeiBei, how are you doing? Feeling excited yet? Hope your little blastie is is sticky one!We didn't get to see ours on an U/S, it sounds amazing!

    Hi Bei Bei

Sorry to hear that...I had 10 eggs at my last EPU but only 3 fertilized...which is why FS has suggested the ICSI/ blast. What are your thought on the whole blast transfer? I'm so confused? If they don't make it to blast does it mean they wouldn't have made it if they'd transfered earlier? If so it would make sense to go to blast rather than FET that don't have a chance? If that makes any sense? It seems everyone has a different opinion. I guess going with what the FS says is what we should do...however...I'm finding at my clinic that the nurses and the embryologist decide alot of what happens. Is that the go? Would love to know your thoughts!

Ellie, as far as I've read, the benefit of transferring blasts is that the embroyologists can be more selective over the quality of embies the transfer. If they make it to blast in the lab, they are normally great little fighters. But, not all embies will make it to blast stage in the lab because of the culture medium not being totally ideal. Transferring at 2 or 3 days may be benefical because some that might not have made it to blast stage in the lab will have a better chance in the uterus. At 2 or 3 day transfers, there isn't the benefit of being able to see which embie looks the most promising for implantation, is as they look pretty similar at that stage. Thats all I know. But there are pros and cons for them both and success rates are pretty similar apparently. I think theres a sticky thread on this forum which goes into it in great detail...

Thanks Janine. I guess we'll just have to wait and see...it's so hard not to think too far ahead...I feel more disgusting as the day goes on and I'm guessing it will get worse before it gets better...but all worth it...or so I keep telling myself! Can't wait for EPO...so hope that ICSI is going to make the difference...here's hoping
