Heather: in that situation don't hesitate to say firmly (either in your head, under your breath or out loud... whatever you feel most comfortable with). "In the name of all that is good (insert God, the Holy spirit, Allah, or whatever you believe) LEAVE this place! You have no earthly power, LEAVE this place!" You could also try sprinkling salt in the room... this is one of several spiritual cleansing rituals i have learned over the years... maybe Google "spiritual cleansing". There are also certain crystals that are good to place in places that you feel are under the influence of negative energy spirits. I am no expert but you don't have to put up with that kind of bad energy in your home.
