How to get a 3yo to poo in the toilet?

    Hi

Our lovely monster just refuses to poo in the toilet, she knows when she wants to do a poo, will ask for a nappy but straight out refuses to go on the toilet (or potty). We have talked all about how great it will be and have tried bribery with no luck. We have had to back off with making big deal out of it as she was starting to hold them in almost as a way of controlling us (well thats how it seemed). Oh and she has wees under control and has done for ages, its just poos!

Any ideas? At the moment we are just hoping that one day it will click for her but Im starting to wonder if she just cant be bothered.

Hi, i had a friend whos boy did the same thing, it was almost like he was scared to do it. Whenever he did want to do a poo he would get a nappy. One day he just clicked out of it and started to do it on the toilet.
I know it sounds a bit gross, but if shes scared of pooing in the toilet then maybe she could watch you on the toilet so she sees your not scared of it - thats if she scared of it though. Good luck!

My 2 eldest sons did this. We would get them to take the nappy to the toilet and put the poo in there and talk about where poo goes ect. It eventually clicked...

A lot of kids get a bit of stage fright with poos. And it is often with potty and toilet. I wonder if it's the new sensation (of it coming out) that they don't like, as I dare say the sensation of doing one with a nappy on would be vastly different...

My son did the exact same thing, he would only want to poo in his nappy. We just kept persisting with him (not making a big deal about it though) and he eventually just "got it". I'm sure she will get there when she is ready

My firend's DD did exactly the same thing. Having lived in Asia and used "squat toilets" quite a bit, my personal theory is that pooing in a sitting position is really un-natural for our bodies. At 3 1/2 my friend's DD started doing poos outside in the garden (when she was getting dressed after swimming) and from there soon started doing them in the toilet. I am not sure whether this was because she started doing them in the garden or whether she just got to the age where she could do it. Either way, I'm sure your DD will get there when she's ready. GL.

We had a bit of trouble getting Mason to want to poo on the toilet and he was well past 4 before he did so willingly. I had to bribe him before then

I always say when I am worried about anything like this is " you dont see a 10 yrs old doing poo's in a nappy' or still waking in the night I do this just to remind myself that all kids do get it it might not be today but they will get it. I find that it makes me not worrie so much.. my DD wouldn't train in knickers so I just took them off she ended up getting so emrassed (sp?) about doing her poo's on the floor that she ended up getting the idea of going to the toilet..
