Unhappy Severe Morning Sickness - Vomitting up to 6 times a day - What should I do??

    Hi there All

I am writing in here very quickly - I am suffering from severe morning/noon and night sickness - I am vomitting constantly and am struggling to keep anything down.

I called the MotherSafe hotline here in Sydney and they have suggested taking Restavit with Vitamin B6 - just wondering if anyone has tried this - I started this yesterday out of sheer desperation - however I'm not a big fan of taking over the counter meds for this type of condition but having tried every other remedy under the sun I'm desperate.

I'd love to hear of any tried and tested remedies that you can suggest - as at the moment I'm not vomitting but I am zonked out of my brain all of the time (restavit is a sleeping tablet)

I didn't think it was possible to feel so miserable and sick whilst growing another human being

    TIA

Sorry to hear how sick you are, that's awful. My cousin is currently going through the exact same thing. She was on the maxalon, but it didnt' work for her, so unfortunatley it's just ginger tablets (I think blackmores do some) and also crystalised ginger, really good for nausea. I know that might not help, but it's worth a try. Anything ginger (ginger tea good too). Hope you feel well soon xoxo

    You poor thing!!

try to keep your fluids up and drink as much water as you can!! I found eating crackers helped me alot, saladas where all i ate for the first few weeks of my pregnancy much to hubby's disgust, he thought i should be eating alot more, but anything else i tried to eat just didnt stay in, so i figured crackers were better than nothing!!

Once the ms let up a little i started to get hungry alot and thats when i started eating the house out!!

Also any pregnancy vitamins will help too, i never got that bad i needed anything else, but if its bad i would give anything they say is safe a go!!

Oh and i had to LOL at your last comment... for the first few weeks (or even months) of pregnancy, ALL you feel is sick and miserable while your body is very busy making a little person!! But the good news is that it DOES get better!!!!

If you start to feel really bad or too dehydrated call your hospital and they will give you fluids if they think you need them, or some maxalon to ease the nausea.

Good luck and i hope you feel better soon!!

    You poor thing.

No that isn't the only thing that can help you. Go to a medical centre and get a shot in the behind of maxalon and then ask for a script. Make an appt to see your doc and tell them this isn't on.
If the maxolon doesn't work there is anoterh drug called ondansetron that is used for hyperemesis.

Thanks Ladies - I'll see how it pans out on this stuff - when I spoke with MotherSafe they suggested that I give this a go in the first instance and if it doesn't work they'll move me across to Maxolon.

On another note - if your'e suffering insomnia and have spare time to sleep I'd highly recommend the Restavit - just up from 3 hours of solid sleep after sleeping 12 last night.

Now just need to work on something to eat that doesn't make me gag - at this point Granny Smith apples are getting a run for their money along with lemon tea - water just tastes like pure poison.

Farout I remember with Baby no.1 thinking that morning sickness couldn't possibly get any worse than that - all of a sudden Baby No.1 is looking like the good big brother - oh well only 33weeks to go

Diana - I know exactly how you feel!! Im going through the exact same thing at the moment.

I was given a shot of maxalon last week and have been taking Maxalon tablets ever since. I have tried everything in the book and these are the only things that have helped slightly. I still vomit about 4-5 times per day, but now I find I can keep at least some food down. Ill be going back to the Dr next week.

I hope you find something that works for you.

Have you considered eastern medicine? I've been told that acupuncture is very good for morning sickness. No experience with it myself for that purpose, but I've had weekly acupuncture for a year now and I definitely believe that it is better than western medicine for a lot of things!

    Hope you feel better soon!

Oh no, morning sickness is horrible isnt it!
I had really bad morning sickness too and I was also throwing up sometimes 15 times a day. There were only a few things I could eat that would actually stay down. So all I ate till about 10 weeks was milk arrowroot biscuits, ginger biscuits and sometimes I could eat an apple without throwing up. I drank ginger ale and took ginger + B6 tablets. I also drank heaps of herbal teas. Water was evil.
My morning (all day) sickness was so bad at about 8 weeks that I went to my GP in tears because I had lost 6kg (I was 50kg to begin with so I didnt really want to lose weight) and he prescrbed me some Maxalon. I only used it a few times and it did help a little.
Something I ddi find that also helped was to suck on lollies (barley sugars, that sort of thing). Just took the edge of the yukky "i'm going to throw up any second" feeling and made me feel semi-normal.
Hope it passes for you soon.

Yes I agree, m/s is horrid!!

Just something for you to keep in mind. If you continue to vomit & lose weight & the maxalon doesn't work please see your doc as there is such a thing as severe m/s (called hyperemisis... I'm a sufferer) There are different meds that can help you in this case when nothing else will.

I had hyperemisis with DD from 6 weeks until the night I gave birth to her, that was the last time I vomitted just after giving birth & that was the last time I needed my medication.I was vomitting every 2 mins, yes we ended up timing them LOL & eventually I was vomitting blood as there was nothing else in my stomach. I tried to come off the medication all the way through my PG but would start vomitting again so straight back on them. I'm currently on the same medication this time (started at 7 weeks this time though).

The medication I'm on is called Zofran Zydis & I take the wafers so it dissolves in your mouth so you dont have to try to swallow it. It's used for chemotherapy patients but has become quite known for a hyperemisis treatment now. The only downside is the cost. They are approx $12 per wafer/tablet. But if it's all that will work, like in my case (tried maxalon, stemitil etc) it's a small price to pay. I only take one a day so it's about $12 a day in meds but when I started I was on 4 a day! I weened myself down so it could be possible for you to only need 1 a day aswell?

Oh & in my experiences while I'm on the Zofran wafers I feel totally normal (besides the tiredness) I don't feel ill at all.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that there are conditions out there apart from your "normal" m/s, so just be aware if you feel like nothings working maybe mention it to your GP & see if they can help better.

I really feel for you, I understand how dreadful it can be. Hopefully it will pass for you very soon & you can start enjoying your pregnancy

I hope I have helped in some way....

Dianna Q know how you feel. I had morning all day sickness with my bub right up til they wheeled me into theatre. Lost 12kg. I tried just about everything. I know this sounds crazy but the only thing that reduced my chucking was Fruit Tingles!!!!

i suffered severe hymensis with my twins and was on 4 zofran tabs a day and still vomiting- 1 lost 20kg whilst pg
last time i was pg with my angel i was vomitting the same amount but didn't want to go on zofran again so tried actupunture.
I went from vomitting 14 times the day before to none in one session!!!
    it was amazing!
i vomited only about once a day after that until my next treatment- heaps easier to handle
would highly recommend seeing actupuncturists - esp who is a specialist in OB/GYN

Thanks Ladies - I've been doing some research on HG also - at this point well atleast today I have managed to keep some food down - I've moved up to Maxolon also but am yet to take them today.

I'm going to see my naturopath again in the hope that I can take something more pregnancy friendly - she mentioned some wonder herbs from Germany so I'll be sure to keep you posted how it pans out

Unfortunately any time I've had acupuncture done I've ended up vomitting - regardless of what the treatment was for- so have to admit that I am a little reluctant to try this again - however if push comes to shove I will give it another go.

The pharmacist mentioned Zofran to me the other day - but I've got my fingers and toes crossed it doesn't get to that point.

Thanks for all your feedback it's been lovely to hear that I'm not the only suffering pregnant woman on earth - thanks heaps
