Please tell me this is normal.....

I am constantly in the bathroom looking for blood, analysing every twinge, checking my (.)(.) are still sore...... why can't I just relax?

My last miscarriage happened on a sunday evening and I am just terrified of this happening again. I hate sundays!!

Tomorrow is the 5 week mark..... my FS has booked me in for my first scan at 6w4d. That seems AGES away! How will I make it through.

I feel like I'm just torturing myself with the thoughts of my last pregnancy.

    Help!

Thanks girls. I just feel so scared. I hate that I've had a m/c before because it is ruining my current pregnancy!!

    AARRGGHHH!

    Thanks for your support.

It's entirely normal. Sieving through the crinone clumps to check for blood stain etc. Even doing HPT to check the depth of the second line, lining them up in a row to check the colours is getting darker each day,(which I've been banned from doing by FS and my DH), having hcG done weekly to make sure it's going up and doing precise maths (hcg doubling every 43 hours). I've lost Frosty at 6 weeks, then with this one, I bled from 6-9 weeks, and just passed a big clot at the 12 week mark, I'm paranoid to the ninth. Luckily now I can get a doppler signal since 10 weeks and 5 days, and my friend gave me her doppler, so I can reassure myself everyday hearing bub's heartbeat getting stronger. I've had so many scans (after each bleed), I even offerred my FS to buy his old machine. LOL!

ETA: Oh I forgot to congratulate you! Big Hooray for BFP!!!

Perfectly normal. My first preg ended in a mc and for the next 2 I was paranoid and still am.

I think once you have 1 mc it freaks you out for the every other pregnancy as you know how easily things can be taken away from you.

    Good luck with preg

Perfectly normal. I lost my first bub at 8 weeks and then I was lucky enough to get a BFP the next month and I bled off and on till I was 12 weeks - so I def knopw where you are coming form! I was allways at the toilet checking, touching my boobs all the time and I did quite a few tests to check line darkness.. Oh I have done it all!

It will get better for you - after a little while you do relax and enjoy your preg - you still worry about things in the back of your mind but it gets easier.

I've had 2 m/c's over the past 11 months and am now 4 weeks 5 days and am doing everything everyone else has mentioned. In fact, I am sore from wiping to check as I've been almost obsessive. I also have just purchased more poas tests so that I can examine the lines every morning - pretty crazy. My scan isn't until 7 weeks and I will probably be in such a state by then.

I remember how unquestioning I was with the first preg before it m/c'ed - I was nothing but a ball of excitement. That seems like a life time ago - who was that naive girl?

Sue- have just come back in here and see you are pregnant! wonderful!!! congratulations

as for your query, you are so normal! I have been exactly the same with all my pregnancies. It's very stressful and hard to relax. I think the first trimester is a tough time..much of our innocence is robbed by this process and having experienced loss. Just try and find joy in each little milestone and think as positive as you can.
Hoping all is going really well

Sue, you are totally normal feeling that way. I was a basket case in the first tri, especially after 2 episodes of spotting. Even though this baby is so very wanted, I did occasionally wonder if I could back out early on because I just didn't think that I could cope

All I can say is one day at a time....you will get there! I managed it and am now only days away from meeting our bub. You can do it!!

All the best for a H&H pregnancy.

Thanks guys, all of what you've said has been very helpful.

I am feeling much better about it all today now that Sunday is past. I think that I was way more traumatised by the miscarriage than i ever thought.

I have my first scan booked for next tuesday 11th Aug (i'll be 6w1d) so I am trying to just focus on that. I'm also busy at work so that is really helping.

Oh, does anyone know when the earliest we can hear the heartbeat? Will I hear something there at my first scan?

    Thanks

Sue - I would think that they schedule the 1st scan at a time where they think they can see a heart beat...although yours is earlier than I'm used to. Have you tried googling to see when a heart beat can be detected via a vaginal U/S?

    I found this:

A mass of fetal cells, separate from the yolk sac, first becomes apparent on transvaginal ultrasound just after the 6th week of gestation. This mass of cells is known as the fetal pole. It is the fetus in its somite stage. Usually you can identify rhythmic fetal cardiac movement within the fetal pole, although it may need to grow several mm before this is apparent.

So, it sounds like your scan is early - but you may be able to see the heart beat. You definitely will be able to see the gestational sac and yolk sac.

Sue, you'll only get to see the HB at an early scan. I'd say you are in with a reasonable chance at 6w1d, if they can't see it externally they'll just do an internal. BTW, I had my first scan externally at 6w6d and could see the HB clearly .

I didn't actually hear bub's HB until I was about 16 weeks along, although it is possible to hear it a few weeks earlier than I did. A lot of caregivers won't try to listen with a Doppler though before about 14 weeks or so because you can't always hear it then. Good luck!

Bubby's heart is formed in the 5th week of fetal development. I've seen them reported on scans as early as 5+ weeks, but when you can't see one that early, do you wonder is it way too early or is it not there? So most doctors would ask you do it after 6+ weeks, if it's not there, it's most likely not there.

Doppler can usually be heard once the uterus protrudes beyond the pelvic bone (at 12 weeks), you can usually hear it around 11 weeks, I found mine 2 days short of 11 weeks. You need some practice to find it when it's that small, if you can't it's likely that you've just missed the correct spot. If you do buy a doppler, I suggest to take it in to the clinic or your GP and ask them to show you how to do it.

Hi Sue - I just had a scan today - my first at 6 weeks and 2 days ( I thought I was 4 days) and saw the heartbeat very clearly.

    Thanks guys!
I'm getting really excited now. I wondered if that might have been too early.

    I'll keep you all posted.

Sue - thanks so much for starting this thread. It motivated me to call my FS rooms and ask to move forward my first scan and they agreed. One less week of waiting!
