I just had a question on bloating. I am now 14 wks and no matter what i eat my stomach will tripple in size..I am only 3 months and i look more like im 8 months..and doesnt go away until after i have been to the loo..which is not very often any more!!
Has anyone else experienced this or have any remedies..i know i should eat more fruit/fibre but it get difficult to do this everyday..and i want to stay clear of metamucil.
Not sure what causes the bloating either...any ideas??..is this normal??
For the bloating, I have no idea sorry but it's probably related to the constipation I imagine.
For the constipation, I can sympathise - it's just awful isn't it? I have found that introducing just one bowl of All-Bran a day (everyday) has made all the difference for me. Previously, I just had toast or similar for breakfast as I'm not a cereal eater but I tell you what, that's the only change I've made and it seems to be working. If you already have this for breaky I'm sure other girls will be able to give you more advice. GL!
I have one bowl of muesli a day - I get a coles brand which has lots of seeds in it, along with dried apricots and sultanas and I haven't had any problems since I started that. I really notice the difference if I miss that bowl though IYKWIM??
Oooh I get the same - at 8 weeks, a taxi driver thought I was 6 mths pg! And I still get people acting surprised that i"m "only" 4.5 months. I must admit, I've found a capsule of metamucil really helps me, and I know it's safe... but you said you didn't want to take that... but that's what works for me. And to be honest, I think the rest of it is just me being very prone to bloating. By the end of each day, I just look waaaay more PG than I did in the morning - at least it's handy on the train haha! Got offered a seat tonight YAY.
I read that bloating is very normal in first trimester, and I have found mine has settled a bit (but certainly hasn't disappeared) in second trimester. Apparently your digestion transit times do slow throughout PG which can result in the increased gas/bloating. In my case, I have a digestive condition that I think plays a part... and I imagine things like IBS and Coeliacs would be similar, but i've also heard of others without any of those conditions who found they bloated throughout as well.
Good luck!
Hi First Timer.... I have always been prone to bloating & constipation & it was horrific when I was in the 1st trimester but I have started having 1/2 all bran, 1/2 vita britz for breaky & I take 1 INNER HEALTH PLUS (acidophilus) capsule every night before bed. This is the only thing that has worked for me. I tried metimucal but it never worked for me. I still get bloated some days, but at least I'm able to 'get some out' every morning. The Inner Heath does make 'it' a little loose (IYKWIM), but certainly does wonders. I swear by this method. Good luck!
I find drinking water difficult but it has helped with the constipation. I also drink Metamusil each night I know you don't want that but it really has help me. If you like licorice (sp?) just eat some of that too.
As for the bloating well - I can't offer anything for that coz I haven't found a cure for it
Hi girls,
I'm having the bloating too. I'm almost 14 weeks, and I find that after eating lunch, especially if it's a reasonably sized portion, I feel sooo stretched and over full that it is really uncomfortable. (like right now - I feel like a python that's just eaten a deer!) - I think I should be having smaller meals at regular intervals which may help.
I'm more regular toilet-wise now i've adopted my friend's routine: a glass of prune juice at night, a glass of warm water with lemon in the morning, and cereal/yoghurt for breakie. I'm not very good at drinking lots of water but I know that's definately meant to help! Dont forget some exercise too, walking regularly or something like that.
Hi Firtst Timer - I have IBS, so know exactly what you are going through. By the end of the day, I can bloat something terrible. In my first trimester, the pain was so bad I was often in tears and found that charcoal tablets recommended by GP and Buscopan by OB helped. Second trimester it has settled down a bit, but saying that, I have been a bit stressed and run down the last couple of days, and it is back with a vengence. Try 'Beneful' it is a no-taste fibre supplement that can be put in anything from a cup of tea to sprinkled on cereal if you don;t want to take Metamucil. Other than that, stay away from carbonated drinks, especially at night!
Count me in too! I'm just reaching the end of my 1st trimester and have had terrible bloating, constipation and gas the whole way. What has helped me is weet-bix hi-bran. It's like normal weet-bix, but with little bran bits through them. It's helped me!
I hope this helps you!
Take care,
Jess (and bub #2)
I find eating a couple of prunes as a snack in between between meals helps ... before this, I felt like I was trying to expel Ayers rock IYKWIM ... so now I always have a bag of prunes in the fridge, and I eat probably about 6-8 prunes a day in total and I have no problems.
I also have trouble drinking water, so I am being naughty and drink one or two glasses of diet coke a day, but mostly I am now drinking weak tea. Since doing these two things, bloating and constipation are no longer a problem ...
I am also addicted to chewing gum at the moment, and the packets always say excess consumption may have a laxative effect - maybe the chewing is helping keep me regular?? LOL!
