Swollen Feet - What to do..

    Hello,

I have been getting swollen feet for some time now but the last few days it's increased and starting to become uncomfortable with my skin burning.

Is there anything I can do ? I try to stay off them as much as possible.

I placed them into a foot spa to no avail, I actually wake up with them quite swollen.

Dr doesnt seem too concerned just said "normal".

It's the burning skin thats irritating me....

    Hi Delicate-Dove!

This was my main problem when I was pregnant too! I wore thongs (even to work!) from about 6mths on! Every night DH would massage them for me to try and relieve the pain. Try cold towels - that helped me out and to put them up at every chance! Take over the couch and load it up with pillows! I had about 6 under my feet in the end!

I also found that once DD arrived that they swelled up so much they looked like they were a size 22! I could not even get them into thongs! Again keeping them up (higher than your heart - so lay down!) helped and in a week they were back to normal!

    Goodluck matey!

    xoxo

I too wore thongs from 16 weeks so can completely sympathise!
Try to stay off them -or if you are sitting down - put them up on a chair. I am a teacher and would just sit in front of my grade - feet in the air!
I also did aqua aerobics - being in cool water really helped.
Have you got a foot spa or a big washing bucket container will do- soak in peppermint and get DH to put cream on afterwards. Peppermint can be cooling and lots of foot creams have it in them so it might give you a big of relief.
    Good luck!

i know how you feel - i spent the last 8 weeks (and probably even longer) with really swollen feet, and i had to go to work still in week 33, and it was not fun. i am a nurse, so didn't have the option of wearing thongs to work, and so had to wear sneakers as my feet would not fit into my docs, even though i put them on the loosest buckle, and normally wear them on the tightest, with room to move.

i can only suggest that you put them up as much as possible, and try to keep them cool. i also was waking up with really swollen feet, even wheni went to bed and slept with pillows under my legs - and its not as if sleeping wasn't uncomfortable enough!

i hope that it just stays in your feet though, but the end of my pregnancy i was swollen to about 1/3 up my thighs on a bad day, and just below my knees on a good day. Yet the doctors still reckoned that it was all normal... stupid male doctors, see how they like looking and feeling like a beached whale - especially when you are trying to keep your feet up all day...

For me, I think it's the heat that's making it worse - so I stay cool, feet up, LOTS of water. I try to keep up swimming every week which is helping but I still get the swollen feet and hands

And I've only worn shoes once this whole pregnancy so far... thongs all the way!

My GP asked for me to get my midwife to check my urine and BP again when I see her in a few days, just in case

My doctor told me that u have to keep your feet up higher than your hips however the fluid will go somewhere else. He said that woman that have been keeping there feet up find that the swelling goes down but the swelling will go to thier back which is real uncomfortable.

Definitely try keeping your feet up as much as you can. THough it's easier said than done, remember not to cross your legs when you sit. Drink moderately amount of fluid, (not too much and not too little). Hope you find a solution to your swollen feet soon.

i think a tea made of peppermint tea and dandelion is meant to help with oedema (swellinganf fluid retention) and massage may also help... but also just look at the positive - lots of trips to the loo after the birth and it will disappear...
