Angels & Demons was fantastic Bath, I read it before Da Vinci Code because there were a few references to "the incident at the vatican" at the beginning & I wanted to know what it was LOL!
At the moment I'm reading "Escape" by Carolyn Jessop, Holly I think you recommended it?? I'm realy quite enjoying it.

At the moment I am reading the "Chrissy Amphlett Autobiography" for those of you don't know she was the lead singer of the band, The Divinyls. It's an amazing book. Im only about 5 chapters through and she has already lead such an amazing life. It's awesome! Im thoroughly enjoying it!

Some recommendations...
"The Secret Life of Bees" and "Water for Elephants", loved both of them, very touching stories. Also "The Memory Keeper's Wife".
I've got a Marian Keyes there waiting for me... that'll be standard Marian Keyes, not expecting much more!
ETA - Bath, I liked A&D more than Da Vinci Code!

I am about a chapter or two into "It's the Little Things" by Erica James. It is about 3 friends who survived the Boxing Day tsunami and how it effects their lives. I have liked all of Erica's previous books so hoping this one will be great too. She is a fairly easy read, kind of along the lines of Marian Keyes and Monica McInerney if anyone is looking for something new.
On my bedside table, I have "Dreams from my father" the Barack Obama book which I have been randomly flicking through. I also have two books sitting there that I was giving as advance reading copies but I'm too scared to read them because I am such a sook. The first one is "Still Alice" which Hollybolly mentioned before. I might give it ago seeing as you loved it. The other one is "Journal for Jordan" by Dana Canedy which is a memior that contains notes and letters sent home by a soldier in Iraq to his unborn son in case he didn't make it home. I was reading it the other night in bed and DH took it off me and told me to be quiet because I was bawling so much. I think I only made it too the 2 chapter. (Clearly I am a very emotional reader

ATM i am reading Jonathan Franzen's 'how to be alone'. it is a bunch of his essays that look at privacy in an age of interconnectivity (whether through internet, tv, credit cards etc etc).
he tries to define privacy within this context; challenging the 1890s definition of: 'to be left to oneself'. which he claims is virtually impossible in today's society.
pretty fun.
of course has nothing on the twilight series

I like the sound of How to Be Alone... will definitley be looking into that one! thanks for the heads up! Wanting to spend time alone these days is almost proving that the scenario of suspicion in Brave New World to be prophetic! I definitley see the value in regular solitude... very necessary for 'centering'... maybe I should start a thread on it!LOL

Bath: well, i have read alot more of the book (basically short esssays) and it really highlights how HARD it is to be alone...but really interesting nonetheless, it's amazing how much of ourselves is open to public interests.

I posted a separate thread about it, but atm I'm reading "What mothers do - especially when it looks like nothing" by Naomi Stadlen. I have never heard of it before but its a lovely book about the changes in life when you become a mum, I'm finding it very comforting and easy to relate to.

i'm about to start the fourth Dexter book - but am trying sooo hard NOT to start it yet - have to have a 2 hour diabetes test next week and i know if i open the book too soon, it will be all finished by the end of the weekend (who am i kidding, it will be finished tomorrow!) - so i have left it in the bag near the front door, ready to go on monday...

Ok, well because Oprah Raaaaaaaaved about it, I read The Story of Edgar Sawtelle.
OMG the first 200 pages were haaaaaaaard work. The next 400 pages were riveting, I was completely glued. Then the book flunked out completely in the last 50 pages. The least satisfying ending I think I have *ever* read.
I saw the author interviewed, and apparently it took him 10 years the write the darn thing. Moral of the story - NEVER read a book that's taken someone 10 years to write!
Since then I have moved onto How my death saved my life - by Denise Linn. Fantastic book, I've practically inhaled the thing in 24 hours. Moving onto the Lucy Family Alphabet next by Judith Lucy, it'll be a crack up I'm sure.
Clare - I'm sure Franzen is very interesting but just the sound of it is making my head hurt LOL.

the books are good if you like the series - though the second and third are soooo much more graphic than the tv show could ever be!
OMG Marydean, that is exactly what I was like with the Celestine Prophecy. Oh dear me, I struggled so much but pushed through it. Normally, because I usually only read Auto Biographies/Biographies I don't pay attention to anything else, and if it doesn't grab me straight away I just couldn't be bothered kwim. But once I could concentrate long enough with the C prophecy it was actually pretty good. Same with the Da Vinci code. Didn't think i'd ever finished that, but once I really got into it I liked it. I don't know what it is about bio's, I think cause it's real and raw ya know? I did however love a couple of Bryce Courteney's books, I find him to be a fantastic writer! The power of one especialy was my favourite, can't even bring myself to watch the movie cause Im scared it will ruin the book for me lol (don't know if anyone else is like that, maybe im just weird lol)OMG the first 200 pages were haaaaaaaard work

If anyone's after a tear jerker go for "Dear Eddie" by Danny Russell. I found it at the second hand book shop on Friday and have just finished it this morning. It's a true story & it's set out as series of letters from Danny & his wife Kerrie to their son Eddie. It flicks between 2003 when he was 18 months old and Kerrie is first diagnosed with cancer (for a second time) and 2006 when she has passed away. It's a beautiful book but definitely a very very sad story.
