Love in the Time of Cholera - by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. I did enjoy it but....I just didn't gell with the protagonist...beautifully written book, but when you don't like a character that you're supposed to be cheering for, then it's a bit hard. Idea is gorgeous, setting is gorgeous, loved the character of the female love interest but not the man, thought him dishonourable.
"Fifty one years, nine months & four days have passed since Fermina Daza rebuffed hopeless romantic Florentino Ariza & married Dr Juvenal Urbino instead. Having sworn his eternal love, he lives for the day when he can court her again. When Fermina's husband is killed trying to retrieve his pet parrot from a mango tree, Florentino seizes his chance to declare his enduring love. Can young love find new life in the twilight of their lives?"
Am keen to read some more of Gabriel Garcia Marquez's books now though.
