Cooked Lettuce!!!!
OMG I just want to barf when I get a sandwich/roll/burger and they've put in one of sandwich presses AFTER the lettuce has gone on and the lettuce cooks. It's disgusting!!!
Lettuce should be cold and crisp at ALL TIMES people!!!
bacon and maple syrup on pancakes is delish!!!!mmmm
Biggest food crime(but i cant help it!!)
2 pieces of toast one with vegemite and the other with nutella put together like a sandwich!!! mmmmm
sweet, salty and crispy all in one!!! mmmmm![]()
Astrid the lemon & icing sugar is a German thing as well. I'd never tried it until I got together with Aaron (his mum is German).
ARGH... the thing I hate the most is when people smother what I've just cooked in salt/pepper/sauce... ESPECIALLY when I've made a gravy, and EXTRAESPECIALLY when I've already seasoned it and they don't try it beforehand, they just chuck it on! ANNOYING!!
I also can't stand it when people put salt on steamed vegies. Yuck!
I'm also annoyed by people who think rice, pasta, and noodles are interchangable...
I know you are all goin to cringe when you read this, but I LOOOOVE vegemite and honey... together... on toast. YUMMY! It's really really good!
ohhhh.... when DH was on tour with his band in America the tour guide said that all Americans pour maple syrup over all their breakfast.... LOL I grew up in America and never did it.
Anyway...
Bath I'm with you, anything that says its something but really isn't. like fake sugar! Mexican food in Australia as a general ruleIts getting better, but really if you want a good corn tortilla its best to just make it yourself, or refried beans, or anything really...
OK...I love Promite and Vegemite on pikelets and Vegemite on raisin toast...AND real maple syrup (Cabin brand) drizzled over my bacon with pancakes.
BUT...the worst is over cooked pasta and gluggly sloppy rice. Oh, and watery bland meals...yuk. Overcooked veges - they're green for pete's sake, why cook them until they turn brown or white??? I just don't understand.
Hmm crime against food
tomato sauce on anything (except for meat pies) - we don't even have a bottle of the stuff in the house!!! I will only ever buy a small bottle when I know I'm going to be making home-made meat pies or sausage rolls (or if I cave to my craving of cherios - you can't have heated cherios without tom sauce)
I love pancakes with bacon (preferably smoked bacon from the butcher), eggs (runny) and then REAL maple syrup (not the sweet artificial stuff - but the quite strong smoky taste of the real stuff) - that was breakfast for us yesterday (all made with organic ingredients except for the syrup which was sent from Canada by a friend)
As much as I love tomato sauce, (sorry everyone!) DH takes it a bit far by commiting my ultimate croime against food:
Tomato sauce on corned silverside.
Others that make me go eeeeeew:
-- "Risotto" made with basmati or jasmine rice
-- fake cream in cream cakes (This would be number on if it were DH's list)
-- using round hundreds and thousands in fairy bread instead of flat sprinkles
-- "guacamole" that is little more than over salted, pureed avocado
-- Ryans Family Restaurant in Warrnambool
Isn't it funny how you think flats best... I HATE flat as hundreds and thousands... they *have* to be round...
OooooOOOoooO can I add smorgy's as food crime enemy #1
biggest crime i have eaten is my mother in laws roasts.. she cooks lamb for liek 3 hours at 180 then takes it out, cuts in into CHUNKS then puts it back in the overn to stay warm until youeat it - it becomes all stringy and leathery!!!
Yep hundred & thousand balls are a must for fairy bread.
I've only ever had fairy bread with round hundred and thousands...I never realised I was committing a food crime
I have to admit to struggling a bit with finding something that bugs me enough to call it a food crime. There are plenty of combinations that I would never try myselfbut then each to their own!
My DH makes baked beans with eggs... now saying it like that sounds like any breaky you might enjoy BUT!!! He puts the baked beans in the fry pan and then when they are warm he will crack 2 eggs into them and stir.....uuuuggghhh!!!! It looks like vomit- sorry to anyone who may eat this, but OMG the first time he did it I really nearly did vomit....
ewwwww.... Kellie!!!
In Holland they have sprinkles on bread like Hagel and you can get chocolate ones or coloured and they taste a little different, but I had a Dutch housemate in Uni & now married to a dutch man I know they are well loved. So like fairy bread but yummier... and flat.
Oh but Christy thats DIFFERENT... Hagelslag is DIFFERENT :P I mean the coloured ones, and I must point out that we do have flat sprinkle sandwiches when I'm doing a theme which is a specific colour, but I do prefer balls to flat sprinkles with multicoloured fairy bread if I can... I know anal.
And Kellie ewwwwwwwwww *barf*
