I lost 30kgs prior to meeting DF and kept it off really well till I got pregnant.

I changed my diet, threw out the junk food so I couldnt be tempted, went for a 30-40 minute run each day (built it up as I grew fitter)

I must say though the biggest thing was- I got happy. As soon as I found ways to make myself happy, like making sure I got out of the house for even a short while each day etc, the weight just seemed to fall off (with help).

Alternately there are things liek Duromine which my partner is on, but htey have a low rate of keeping weight off as many people fall into old habits when they go off them.

What is your lifestyle and diet like?

I havent. I will need to after that baby is born though. But my DP's best mates fiance has lost over 40kgs. She started her weightloss journey in october 2008. She started out by cutting out all fatty foods, cut out carbs, and cut down on sugars. Her meals were portioned, any meat she had couldnt be bigger than her fist. She started off by walking for 30 mins everyday. Then she got a personal trainer who pushed her really hard. Her goal was to lose 2-3kgs a month, which at first was easy to do but the more weight she lost the harder she had to work. She found it hard at first but she knew it would be worth it at the end.

    I lost 25kg in around 18mths..

i didnt follow any set diet just worked on my own.

I used the herba life shakes for breakfast and lunch (cause i was shocking at preparing and eating food during the day) and at night grilled my food instead of pan fry , and swapped the potatoe mash for salad. I also used a child size plate instead because you will find that your portion sizes for your meals are way to large. the size of meat you eat once a day should be the size of your palm not hand.

I also forced myself to walk everywhere!!

and had rewards set out for mini goals.. etc lost 5kg went on girls night out...

One i lost the weight i have never been happier, so confident now and love life. Not 100% happy with my boy but no one is.

I now go to the gym 3-5 times a week and eat healthy out habbit...

oh and best idea is to remove any junk from the house, makes it easier if it aint there!

    good luck hun

I lost 25 kilos in 7 months before I had my first baby, and kept it off for 8 months til I got pregnant.
The best thing I did was break it down in to min goals.

And here comes the uber geek part.

I made an excel spreadsheet that calculcated my current and goal BMI based on the weights I entered, and it also graphed my weighloss so I could see the progress I was making.

I put i the start date and allowed for 0.5 kilo loss per week.
Then I had a column for how much I actually lost, and it worked out my new weight, and how much I had to lose per week after that to still get to my goal on schedule.

Of course, we arent all computer nerds like me

I also went to a meeting once a week where you get weighed, like weight watchers but community run/ not for profit. so you pay like $4 a meeting or something

I exercised or went to the gym 4-5 times a week, cut down on softdrink, snacking between meals and began eating breakfast.

The person who said they got happy hit it on the head too - exercise puts you in a better mood, andt he more you do the better you feel.

I lost about 18kg years ago with Weight Watchers. The program was easy to follow. I excercised for 30 minutes most days and really watched my portions.
Unfortunately I have put a lot of it back on and need to try again. It really works for me to go to meetings and official weigh ins. Seems to keep me more accountable than if I just try and do it by myself.
Rayray, is that T.O.W.N you are talking about? I was thinking of giving that a go since it's so cheap and there is one locally.

I have lost 30kg over 10months. After I had my first child - but the weight was not from falling pg, I was obese before I fell pg. I lost 20kg

Unfortunately I now have to reloose that same weight again (actually more like 40kg in total this time, because I want to get small then I did last time), but I know I can do it - and this time I don't plan on getting pg again as soon as I get to goal.

I have followed Weight Watchers each time. I have found when losing alot of weight you need to break up your goal. Start with something like 5kg, then every 5kg after that. Or aim to loose about 10% of your body weight to start.

I aimed for 5kg, and then 10%, and now to head down into the lower decade (eg 80's, 70's) and then to 71kg (which is the top of my healthy weight range) - after that is my ultimate goal of 60kg. If I focus on these little goals it seems alot easier then the big number.

I've lost 25kg since DS was born 5 mths ago.

I joined up with calorie king online, limited my calorie intake, cut out alcohol and made smarter food choices that kept me feeling fuller for longer - proteins / low GI foods.

I do anywhere from at least 45 mins - 2 hrs exercise each and every day. I don't have days off. I had a goal - and nothing was going to stop me from achieving it - I wanted it that badly. My goal wasn't a number - it was actually wanting to fit into my work uniform pants before I return to work from maternity leave - and I have been able to fit into them for about 2 weeks now .

If you haven't exercised for awhile, start out with walking, brisk walking that is - anything to get your heart rate up - veer away from feeling comfortable; instead work to a point of feeling slightly uncomfortable. Once you find walking no longer challenging, change it up, shock the body and stop the dreaded weight plateau. Sooo many options and things to choose from - I'm a personal trainer / fitness instructor so it was easy for me to think of other things to do, come join us in the exercise tips and chatter thread .

I have managed to lose 15kg this year. (edit in 2009 I mean. From about March to December). Alot of it I think came down to my diet. I rarely exercised.. I stopped night time snacking every night. If I was hungry I would eat.. If I wasn't then I wouldn't.. it was that simple..

At dinner time even if dinner was delicious I would stop eating when I felt full..

    Good Luck..

Ps I still ate chocolates ect I found if I denied myself those things then I craved them and would binge on them.. Now I just buy one and savour it lol..

Rayray any chance you have a copy of that spreadsheet??? I did something similar but yours sounds much better.

Queen i'm currently on the bandwagon. I have so far lost 7kg in 3 months - not a huge amount but slow and steady is more likely to keep the weight off!

So far I have mostly focused on more water more veges (less meat/potato), cutting down on my chocolate addiction, avoiding alcohol, and cutting down soft drinks (like nic said i do not cut completely because it makes me crave and then i binge). I am trying to get into a better routine now and get some more frequent exercise in.

I lack a lot of motivation and sometimes commitment but I am happy to be a buddy on the way. I just need gentle reminders to keep up the conversation. Last time i tried this i contacted the girls i think once and then had some personal dramas and pushed the weightloss to the wayside.

anyway!! i could go into my life story about how it all piled on too gosh i talk too much at times.

I was 105.9 at first weigh.
    I am currently 98.9kg.
    I am 160cm tall (I have shrunk 5cm since getting pregnant )
In the long run I would like to get back to 60kg (lowest weight I recall).
Apparently for Healthy BMI at 22 I should be 56.2kg but I doubt that will ever happen!!!

    Wanna be my buddy

If you want to do something like that but don't have the computer brains to pull it off - like me, try the calorie king site, there is an online tool like this, that charts weight loss and size changes.

Rayray have yuo got a copy of that spreadsheet, sounds awesome!

DC I LOVE to be your buddy!!!!!

What is your lifestyle and diet like?
It is bad I really do NOTHING for myself. I run after kids and DH thats it.
I do exercise, but its with the kids so nothing for ME.

So me losing this weight, is not actually about me losing the weight as much as changing my lifestyle and life for ME, for the first time ever, I will put myself first. I will make time to eat properly and exercise.

I want a future, and if I keep going I will not have one.

Hi I haven't lost a huge amount .. yet! I am doing weight watchers - which I love as I can eat what I like as long as it is in moderation. One of the best things it does it teach you about portion size. and the best things that i have done is buy a good set of digital scales and weigh just about everything I eat. It also helps to compare brands and nutrition labels as what is healthy in one brand wont be in another brand. When you read the nutrition label on a product, it helps to weigh out one serve and see just how big that really is. I have nearly 40kg total to lose.

    My starting weight was 103kg
    Current weight 89kg
    Goal weight 65kg
    Height 175cm

Good luck - just take baby steps and soon it just seems to be a way of life... And it really does make you happy
