    Hi Ladies!

I hope you are all doing well.

Is anyone else having issues getting their little bub to sleep during the day? I have been watching for the tired signs and putting her to bed nice and snuggled in her blanket, but she just cries and refuses to sleep. Then she is tired for the rest of the day and has 15 min cat naps instead of a decent 1 hr sleep! Any suggestions, other than me carrying her around all day, so she will sleep! (I must admit though, she sleeps from 8 till 4/5 at night...so no complaints there)

Hi everyone, I keep up with reading and glad to see everyone and their bubs are doing well, just don't often post in here that's all - love to read how everyone's going though!

Seems like several of us are having day sleeping probs - us too. DD sleeps for maybe 45mins to 1hr, unless I'm really quick to get in there and settle her back off before she's fully awake. And I mean I have to be quick! We have our bedtime routine down pat and have gotten a few 5 and 6 hr stretches overnight, just waking to BF, but I can handle that now I'm getting used to a little less sleep. I've been reading the no cry sleep solution and am now trying to be consistent with a nap routine too, and getting onto it quickly when I see the tired signs. In the book she talks about the bubs having brief awakenings and they need to learn to settle themselves back off to sleep. Quite often when they have a brief awakening we go and grab them out/up because we figure they are awake, whereas we should either leave them to quietly self settle or rock/pat them back off. The more we do this the more they will sleep better (and learn to do it themselves). I realised that's what I'd been doing - grabbing her out when she opened her eyes and made a noise, but she wasn't even properly awake. I realise it it only one theory in many hundreds out there, but it's very slowly working for us so if it helps any of you lovely ladies that's good.
I will admit I am envious of everyone who is getting a full nights sleep from their bubs but as our day naps sort out, our night sleeps are getting longer so I can't complain - I'll be in here hooting and hollering with joy if we get a longer nights sleep that's for sure!

Does anyone else's bubs have neonatal rash? We have a rampant case here, it's calming down a little but for a few days there her face was really red and inflamed and just looked, well, awful! We only use no-soap in the bath, and I've been putting sorbelene on her earlobes which are getting dry (health nurse recommended it?) but I just wish it would go away! I think it's meant to be around 8 weeks.....? Not long now I guess.

Oh and little miss managed to turn herself over whilst on her tummy the other day, I think it was just by chance she happened to push with her arm quite forcefully and flip right over - lay there blinking with a 'omg what just happened' look on her face, as did I, and now she is very closely watched/sat right next to if laying on the couch!

Hope you're all well, and having a lovely weekend

    Hi Ladies,

I heve ben trying to post on hear a few times and do personals, but every time I do, Angus wakes and needs feeding or settling and then I lose it all..

Anyway, I went to a First Steps Program at the community health centre the yesterday and it was really good. There were 16 other babies there and they were all placid and just sitting on their mother's laps while Angus was crying and squirming. It was his sleep time but he wanted to know what was going on. The Health Nurse took him off me and wrapped him tightly (like I usually do at home) and rocked him. Luckily he didn't fall asleep for her but he went off really easily after I bounced on the gym ball with him.

How is everyone going physically? I had really bad pain 'down there' and after suffering in silence for a few days I called the OB and went in. Turns out I have an abscess in my vjj It's swollen and painful each time I need to go to the toilet and wipe (sorry TMI). The OB gave me two lots of antibiotics, so I hope they work soon.

Well, I'd better get going. Angus is supposed to be sleeping, but my sister picked him up when he woke up so that I could finish my post and my other sister is here now, so the poor thing is going to get over stimulated

Hope all the Mummies are going well

Thank you for the welcome Teresa & Missawah, I hope you & your baby's are well.

Krisvee, well done on the long stretch of sleep from bubs, I hope it continues for you. Liam was doing about the same thing feeding at 6pm then going through to about 2am. I have recently started feeding him before I go to bed at 9pm and he is going through to about 3am or 4am and just the other night slept right through to 6am.

Hi Beata, great to have you in this thread as well. Not sure about the wind thing with the bottle as I am B/F, but it seems to make sense that a stronger flow could give him more wind if his having to gulp, but that is just a guess, hopefully someone more expereneced with bottle feeding can give you soon advise. On the smiling & giggling thing, I think each baby gets there when they are ready. Liam is now 'fully smiling' but not doing a true giggle yet. Its good that Cameron is 'talking to his mates' - how cute!

Hi Con, with the short sleeps, is bubs getting plenty of play time before bed? I wasn't doing that earlier on, in fact I wasn't given him much play time at all, not realising how much he did need quite early, I was under the very incorrect perception that all newborns did was sleep. Once I incorporated more play time and watched his tired signs, he does sleep for good streches, I just have trouble getting him to go to sleep in the first place.

Human bean, I did some reading on the net this week re: sleeping stratergies and found one artice where a doctors said that babies around 12 weeks (didn't reference younger than that) sleep about 15hrs per day with about 10 of those during the night, so that is about 5-hrs of sleep during the day. Liam also sleeps for about 45-min to 1-hr, sometimes he does one 2-hr sleep during the day. I guess all babies are different. Liam also had a rash at about 4-weeks that took about 2-weeks to go. They can look nasty can't they, but it will disappear soon.

Nat, good thing you went to the OB, that sounds quite painful, I hope you heal quickly.

We are slowly getting into a sort of routine, which is making things easier. DS has been sleeping really well during the night, but as I write this he is crying and DH is trying to comfort him. This is the first time he has ever woken up after we have put him down to sleep. I better go help DH, will post again soon.

Hi everyone, hope you're all well.

I agree B, even if we got nothing back and it cost more we still would have gone ahead with it. We've got about 1 more week of the vaseline and nappy liners in his nappy and then we're all back to normal. The doc that does them here recommends keeping it up for an entire month just to make sure everything is healed and it doesn't stick.

Con, yep Harri is a terror during the day when it comes to sleep. Having said that though he's usually pretty happy just to play most of the day. He usually has a 1-2 hour nap during the middle of the day and if we're out and about he'll fall asleep in the pram or car seat. So long as he's content I'm not too worried. Would be nice if he'd sleep all through the night *pipe dreams*

HB, What a clever little girl rolling herself over!! I like the sound of that strategy. We've been getting into a pretty good routine for night sleep. About 5pm Harri has a bottle and bath and then I keep him wrapped up in his towel for a while and give him cuddles (note this has resulted in being wee'd on a few times haha), then I massage the baby bedtime lotion all over him, dress him and sit down with him somewhere quiet and read him a story. Then we have cuddles for a while and when he shows he's tired I put him down in his cot...at first he'd wake back up several times but he's getting much better and tonight I only had to go in once to settle him back down. So after all that he's usually in bed and asleep by about 6:30-7pm...I'd like to push the time back a bit but it suits us for now as its around he same time DSD goes to bed.

No rashes for us, I've only ever used the johnsons bedtime bath and johnsons baby moisturisers (bedtime one for night and regular for day).

Nat, Angus must just be inquisitive and there's definitely nothing wrong with that Physically I feel good, DP and I are DTD just like we used to again. I haven't had a period or anything yet but am going for a check up not this week but the next to make sure everything is going ok.

TMI ALERT - The only complaint I've had physically is when going number 2's its incredibly painful. I'm not sure if I could have damaged there during labor?? I'm a bit embarassed to ask a doc about it, but its getting to the stage where its definitely not right and I need to see about it.

Berry, Hope Liam settles back down for you quickly

Hello to everyone else and hope you're all well...that 2 month mark is fast approaching!!

    TMI Warning....
Missawah, it sounds like you might have a hemorrhoid? (spg?) Can happen as a result of the pushing stage, or from constipation/straining in the weeks after giving birth. Or some people are just unlucky enough to just get them. I couldn't believe that I didn't have any 'injuries' from my birth, but within 2 weeks had a really annoying hemorrhoid (sorry I did warn you all about tmi) A good friend of mine who is regular sufferer sent me to the chemist and I got some cream that helped immensely. I also took metamucil daily to keep up the fibre. Might not be what's wrong in your case, but could well be? Good luck, it's awful

b, I've found the book really helpful because it's a really relaxed approach, and she gives you guidelines and suggestions but you really have to put together what works best for your own situation. She refers to co-sleepers alot too and if I remember correctly you cosleep with DS don't you?

Welcome Berry too - sorry I forgot to say hi and welcome to the group

Nat I hope you're feeling better down there really soon....nothing worse really is there!

    hi ladies,

    welcome to berry and Nat!

Missawah, i agree with hb, it sounds like haemorroids. I was fine throughout my whole preg and two weeks after coming home (TMI) i got a haemorroid! they hurt like hell but i found out that nappyrash creams like bepanthen and amolin are just as good as the chemist treatments as they have a lot of the same ingredients, so a dab of that every so often, especially before going to the loo, can be great. Also get some metamucil, like HB said, it will help a lot. Mines pretty much gone as i dont think it was big, but if it feels puffy and swollen in that area, thats probably the culprit. Hugs

Nat, sorry to hear about your hoohar, as if they havent been through enough lately! hope you come good soon

I havent really been doing any sleep routines with Adrian as he keeps changing on me but i think i might start soon, i really want to read stories to him but he never stays still in my lap for long enough Whats this rash everyone is talking about? I noticed some little red spots on Adrians chest today but though maybe he was just red from the warm bath, is it this rash?

Jellymaker - I have only just found a way to be able to read stories, without Tiah ignoring me or crying. I put her on her activity mat and let her do her own thing for a few minutes and then start reading the story.... she seems to be happy to listen and interact with me then... bu if I try and hold her she flips out!

    Berry - Welcome!!!

Nat - Hope you are feeling better after your antibiotics... I am feeling more normal after finishing mine for the retained products... it is amazing how quickly everything gets better once the medication kicks in.

B - How is the personal training going? I am hoping to get my butt into gear this week.... I am eating WAY to much sweet things...

Con - Tiah wont sleep for more than about 30 mins during the day unless I am holding her. I finally convinced DP that I NEEDED a HugABub for my sanity so that should be arriving next week. She is sleeping for at least 6-7 hour blocks at night atm though, so I am like you... not complaining too much!

We got Tiah's results from her blood tests - all clear! I knew it would be ok, she just has very.... expressive... eyes

Tiah and I both have colds atm, it is making life interesting. She is wanting to feed way more often because when she does feed it is hard for her to breath and so she stops before she is satisfied because she is exhausted... so we are on about every 1.5 hours with lots of cuddles. I have this purple fluffy dressing gown that I was wearing at night, and figured a couple of days ago that when I wear that she calms down almost instantly! My sister is teasing me saying Tiah thinks her mum is Barney DP cant seem to settle her atm, so he has told me he may have to wear "Barney" if I am not home!!!!

I am getting a lot of hassle from family and friends atm because I havent left Tiah with anyone for more than about 30 mins. She settles for me prettty much straight away and others are finding it harder to settle her and keep telling me I have to fix that? My mum told me I need to be stronger and let people try to settle Tiah if they are holding her, but I DO leave them as long as I can! I cant see how leaving her crying for ten minutes when I could settle her faster is at all good for her??!?!?! I am just not ready to leave her for very long.... am I the only one? PLEASE tell me someone else feels like this and I am not some crazy, clingy mother already!

    Hi Ladies,

    Welcome to Berry!

meercat- I am the same...if grace is unsettled and someone is nursing her i usually settle her down and then i pass her back. She has been a real little mummy's girl of late, sometimes she won't even settle for her daddy! I haven't left her with anyone at all yet, i take her everywhere with me. (when i go out that is).

~b~- Yay on the pt! It sounds like fun...painful, but fun! lol! I have been walking in the afternoon, seems to be doing some good. I have been losing a steady 1kg per week for the past month. 4 kg down, 5kg to go!!!!

misssawah- hope your ummm *bits* are feeling better soon!

Jelly- I think there are a few rashes babies can get. Grace has had a milk rash, which is perfectly normal and goes away pretty quick. Some bubs also get heat rash, which is more commen with summer newborns.

Human bean- what is the name of the book you are reading?

Hello to all the other mummies!!!!

Meercat and ~b~ - we have grobags already but Fraser will not sleep in them. He still has to be swaddled VERY TIGHTLY cos as soon as his hands get anywhere near his face, he wakes himself up.

missawah - hope you're on the mend soon!

Con (and ~b~) - yay on the weightloss. I'm so unmotivated. Think I will wait until I stop expressing then I can concentrate on it more. I hardly eat anything through the days as I just have no appetite (and I think that's the problem) but the weight seems to be at a standstill. Saying that, I'm 5 kg heavier than I was before I got pregnant and I don't think that's too bad at all.

Sorry - can't remember what else was said so hi to everyone else!

Well, not wanting to tempt fate, but we have had a great few days. Fraser is really settled on his formula now, but he is super tired all the time! Not that it's a bad thing, as they do all their growing when they are asleep. I just feel that I don't want his mental development to miss out, but I'm sure that he'll be fine! We're hardly getting any time after he is fed to play - he's just showing his tired signs straight away, then I pop him into his cot and within a few mins, he's fast asleep! Bless him! Long may it continue!

~b~ I think i gained around 18 kg during pregnancy - just a lot of it came off when Fraser was born and I have gradually dropped a few kgs over the last few weeks. I wish I was 10 kg lighter though! Have you asked for your avvie to be changed? I wasn't sure whether to or not. Hoping that Ewan settles in the grobag when it arrives and hope your P&T arrives soon!

Grrrrr... my long awaited HugABub arrived. DP said he would help me figure out how it works..... he is so impatient he tried to force Tiah into it while she was crying and then shouted at me when I told him to give her a break because she was getting upset...

Needless to say - An hour later I am still comforting a very upset little girl in her "Barney"

and a very idiotic male is stomping around the yard...to scared to come inside knowing I will kill him

good afternoon ladies. hope everyone and their bubs are well

well we went to the zoo yesterday. Hamish was awake to have a look around but is still too young to really understand where we were and all the animals. we have the pandas at our zoo now and there was soooo much hype that i am still wondering after seeing them, what all the hype was about. yeah sure they are cute but there are other animals at the zoo!! we did buy a panda for him which is currently sitting up next to his border collie stuffed toy and his stuffed toy lemur. oh and how cute are lemurs!! they are gorgeous.

Hamish's appetite is certainly getting bigger. he now finishes most of his 180mls in his bottles!! plus we think he is still hungry so we are going to try him on some rice cereal tonight to see how he goes. maybe he might sleep all night! can only wish. hehe

for all those mums who have kids already before their little ones now, when did u start them on solids? i am still not sure but he seems to be hungry more now. plus he keeps sucking his fist all the time and i heard that is generally an indication that he needs more. we have another appointment with the paediatrician tomorrow so i will ask her then too. hopefully this is the last one. my brothers boy who was also premmie is having follow ups all the time. not sure what is happening there as i dont speak to him. he stil hasnt come to meet Hamish. grrrrr. so not speaking to him anymore.

anyway hope all is well with everyone
    xx

b, like ReeRee said, I'm pretty sure the avatars addy is playing up - I forwarded the email I sent to it, to sarah's email (can't remember it sorry) as I'd read her requesting others to do that for changes - maybe check on the mod's contact list? It did take a couple of weeks though as I think she's pretty swamped

con, it's called the No Cry Sleep Solution by Elizabeth Pantley

All good at this end, although a dear friend of mine had her little boy at 27wks on Sunday, he's doing as well as he can, is putting up a real fight in special care, and I just can't stop thinking about them. Makes me realise how blessed I am for what I have and the smooth road it was for us. Speaking of prems, has anyone ever heard any more from zstar? I wonder how her little one is?

On a positive note, I bought an Ellaroo sling and we had our first grocery shop with it yesterday - DD crashed out within 5 mins of being in it - and I got a decent sized shop done hands free - it was great! Not sure how I'd go wearing it for much longer as my back got a little achey, but it was just so good to not have the capsule or pram to lug around. I'm already impatient and can't wait til she can just walk alongside me ha ha

    Morning girls,

Congrats to all the weightloss ladies. I only put on 7.5 kg the whole preg and 4 of that was baby, so im actually 2 kilos lighter now than before i got pregnant!! Lucky! Im starting to put it back on though because ive been eating junk and not exercising much, and because of my jelly belly, it looks worse than what it is. So as of today im back on the diet i started when we were trying for our ivf and i lost 6 ks. If anyone is interested, there is a great website called Aussie Bodies and it has a PCF calculator (proteins, carbs and fats) which is really easy to use and helped me realise how much i was eating in a day. The menu planner is good to keep track of just how much your eating and is really easy to use, if you wanna look, heres the address - PCF Calculator - Aussie Bodies. HTH Im about to walk to the shops with the pram and figured i will start making it a daily thing, that way i get some exercise and we can have fresh fruit and veg everyday, plus my gym membership which is still being payed though i havent gone since we started our IVF in may last year (OMG!) so i will be going back a few nights a week and DH can look after bubs, tho, he would really benefit from the gym too.

AFM- Have had very little sleep in the last week as not only have i had the usual feeds but DH had a cold and so his snoring sounds like a jackhammer, have taken turns sleeping in the spare room but takes forever to get back to sleep. The upside is ive been able to co-sleep with Adrian heaps as i hadnt trusted sleeping with him with DH in the bed as he is a really heavy sleeper. Going to get some of that throat spray stuff for DH to see if it quietens him down. Fingers Crossed.

Hope all the other ladies are having lots of cuddles and smiles with their bubs.
