    ? Progesterone problem

Hello everyone - i have just recently gone throught my 2nd MC - and i have been chatting to alot of ppl and doing some reasearch and i think i may have a progesterone problem - is this bad? is it easily treated - i have a appt with a FS on the 4th of december to go for a chat and look at getting some blood test done - if i fall pregnant before than (if that is possible soo soon after MC) will i miscarry again? or is there something that can be done straight away to help me?

Hi sweety, lack of progesterone can sometimes cause m/c, however your FS will need to run through a series of tests to help determine why your little angels are not sticking. As hard as it is, try not to self diagnose as this can cause you uneccessary stress, and when ttc, the less stress the better.

With me, I was using prog cream and rubbing it into my wrists from CD14 and when I got pg I continued to use it until I was 14wks.

Wishing you best of luck sweety and I hope your FS has good news for you, you so deserve something good right now, sending you lots of hugs, bfp and sticky vibes, and remember you have to hope and faith in yourself and in your body.

    Take care,
    Lisa

    that sounds great Harmony.

can you let me know what the abbreviation of FS stands for?
I cant wait to see the obgyn, have you heard taht the sydney IVF clinic runs programs to help with recurrent miscarriage, and not necessarily for prople who have been trying with IVF?

depending on outcomes we might go there - tehy run the tests that the docs wont run till you lose 3 - for a "nominal" fee (whatever that may be)

    Hi Hj

I agree with not getting ahead of yourself but wish to pass on my experiences. Actually my wife's experience which I have gone through as well.

Anyway my DW has low progesterone occuring naturally. She started with taking chewable tablets whilst we were TTC. When she did become pg she then went onto pesseries and then onto injections to get her levels up. She is nearly at 32 weeks now and she is still taking pesseries in small doses and should be able to finish off in a week or so. There is some obvious inconveniences with it but we have been happy with the result. This was prescribed by the Fertility Specialist that we were seeing but our Obstetrician doesn't believe that there is any benefit post pregnancy. My DW decided that it was not worth the risk in stopping so she continued.

As others have said get all the information first and have the tests done.

    Good luck with it.

    Cheers

Catrionlee - FS is fertility Specialist!
and if i was you i would pay the fee and go to that place in sydney - no amount of money is too much to tell you what may be causing the MC - i couldnt go through a 3rd one!

Jason - thanks for your advice - i will wait until i hear what the FS has to say on the 4th! but im worried that i will fall preg again before they find out what the problem is! i really couldnt go through a 3rd M/C!
Congratulations to you and your DW - do you know what you are having?

Fingers crossed that you will find out what the problem. I understand the frustration as it took us over six years to work out the problem. Although we had established that my DW had low progesterone that fundamental problem was that she never released any eggs although she went through normal cycles. She had an op to put holes in her ovaries which about 8 to 9 months later produced results. It is hard to say though whether prior to pg and after the op she was m/c straight away. Anyway with the increased boost of progesterone I am sure it helped. I can't relate to m/c as I haven't been through it but we had a scare at 12 weeks which was bad enough. Keep up the fight though.

We are having a girl. We decided not to wait for the surprise as we had waited long enough as it was. Thanks for the best wishes.

    All the best again

    Hi-
I'm 23, at 18 i hat my first MC. didnt evenknow i was preg and i was on the pill. AT almost 20 i concieved my first DS on the pill and everything went fine. My second MC was when my DS was 8 months. Again no explaination from GP just told it happens sometimes. With my 3 MC being last year in June i dodnt even bother going to the doc as i figured there wasnt anything they could do or tell me. Few weeks later i went and they said when and if i have a 4th the i should get it tested. In January this year i was dignosed with PCO (poly cyctic ovaries) The GP who sent me for test as i wasnt getting AF after comming off the pill told me i wouldnt be able to have any children. After further investigation my a different GP he found that i wasnt producing any Progesterone which was causing me to not release any egg (causing the cycts on my ovaries) in turn meaning no AF. After a course of progerterone tabs (4 tabs for 5 days) i got my first AF for the year that was 11 augist this year. I only had them for 1 day but it was enough to help me fall preg. I havent had any problems with this preg ATM and am not taking any further progesterone as my BT came back all good.

I wish you good luck but i would just wait and see what your FS says and if your not happy get a second opinion. I regret never getting another opinion with my MC. Could have saved me alot of heart ache and pain.

Jason! wow a baby girl! have you decided on any names?

jess - thanks for your reply - i went and saw FS and he seems to think it is low progesterone! so i have to go through a whole heap of BT throught out my cycle to find out if its a definate! but he is pretty sure it is! and than he said its a matter of giving me an injection or a few of them up until im about 12-14wks when the placenta takes over and than all should go well - so now i just have to fall preg again! i have also been told i need to chart my cycle! thrills!

Hey there - I had 3 miscarriages before conceiving my DS - after the 2nd I sought independent advice from a gynaecologist/obstetrician. She ran a number of tests and discovered that I had MTFHR, was Factor V Laden and also had a rhesus negative blood type and DH is rhesus positive. She explained to me that any one of these problems could be causing miscarriages as well as low progesterone.

She put me onto daily aspirin, high doses of folate, vitamin B, multi vitamins and calcium tablets which I had to take for a month before trying to conceive and gave me the paperwork to do 3 blood tests 48 hours apart as soon as I suspected I was pregnant (to test for low progesterone and check HCG).

When I got pregnant with DS I had my blood tests done and progesterone was low so I was put on progesterone treatment until the end of the first trimester. DS is now 21 months old and we're starting the cycle (tablets, blood tests etc) all over again to try and conceive #2. Seeking independent advice was the best thing I ever did - hope you also get the answers you're looking for.

    Hey hj!

That's just so great to hear that you've been listened to and that your FS validated you and your concerns. It's also great to hear that the FS agrees with your suspicions about the low progesterone (well, not great that you have low progesterone, but great that he is willing to run tests for it if you know what I mean). I know the testing will probably need to occur once you go into your next cycle (so still a little waiting to go through), but I really hope that this means you will have a happy and healthy pg 'third time lucky'. Thanks for sharing your experience with us - I'll be keeping my eye out to read how you go with the tests over the next month. I know I'll be most likely heading down the same path as you in a few months.
