Mine was complete surprise.
I had pointed out in passing the ring I liked, he asked me months before hand to have my finger sized so if her ever got around to it he could surprise me.
He asked my mums permission but had never met dad (we became engaged after only 6 months of being together). Everyone apart from me knew he was going to do it! I had joked and said I wanted an iPad and engagement ring for Christmas, little did I know I was getting it!!!
He proposed 3 days before Christmas, I didn't suspect a thing until we were driving to the spot and u could see the huge box bulge in his pocket.
We had discussed marriage before hand, as in only been together a month when we started talking about it. But he knew I wanted the "romantic gesture".
We got married a little under 12 months after our engagement so not quite 18 months after the day we met! Now been married for almost 4 months and couldn't be happier (bub on the way, conceived between our wedding night and a week later, which I think is cooler than our proposal).
I would change the "setting" as in where it happened if I could, but it was important to him (out the front of Parliament House, he worked there building a kitchen during the few month before). But it was memorable, different and special to us :-)
