Well operation arms out is a success!

The only thing I had to change was attaching the dummy with a dummy clip to the front of the grobag....he still woke for a while last night, but it was a normal one if you know what I mean, and he settled faster than the night before, and then when he stirred the next time he re-settled.

He slept arms out yesterday arvo too with no issues (woke after 45min with a poo which was a bummer).

This morning woke after 45min (which for him is 1 cycle), but re-settled for another hour and a half..and has noe been asleep for an hour.

    I'm stoked!

We have 2 teeth here, but not BFing...sorry!

Better go...thunder storm on the way...

Whew, funny how time gets away from you. I'm too busy but what can you do?

Lila is getting up on hands and feet, or more often, hands and toes. Lots of downward dog action which is just adorable. Went for her first swim the other day at the IL's, didn't care for it at all. Four teeth, possibly one more coming through. Eating heaps of food, I think she's trying to self-wean. Or getting there. She doesn't have milk if she's away from me these days, is just fine on cereal and fruit/veg. We had a breast refusal issue last week, she wouldn't take me for two days and I felt so lost and rejected and awful. Its back to normal now, she keeps biting me no matter what I do. All that is to say that the breastfeeding is once again becoming a bit difficult.

I've been working heaps and trying to keep a handle on the house and trying to help dh who is still having anxiety stuff going on. We'll get there. I'm feeling ok, just tired of being a little fat and slubby so have been working out again. Its good.

I'm going through the old thread to catch up on everyone, missed you guys so much and am glad to be back.

Steph - Glad to hear that you are ok. I've been thinking about you lately and wondering how you were going. This thread seems to have really died, so I don't really check it much and have not posted in ages. Lila sounds like she is doing well. Sorry that breastfeeding is starting to be problematic again. Who can work out these little ones huh? Babies do tend to go through stages with the whole refusal thing. I hope things sort themselves out soon for you both.

Babywrangler - Glad that the unwrapping is going well. Well done on the teeth too!

MagicSeahorse - Yay on the teeth!! I think Jack is about to push the bottom two through but has not yet, so no practical advise from me about BF'ing with teeth. The ABA website has a whole section on it though so that might be worth a look.

Nettie - Sounds like Liam is doing really well. Bet he is up and cruising by now!

Beatrix - Sounds like you have teeth all over the place!

Shoegal - Sorry to hear about your health problems. I hope that things are sorted for you soon. How has Baxter been? Bet he is a big boy by now!

Fire - Hope you are going ok. How is the sleep going at your place now?

Big hello to everyone that I've missed. Hope you are well.

Us - Jack is doing amazing on every front except sleep! He has been crawling since two days before 6 months, and is now climbing and cruising the furniture. He's saying 'mum' now when he wants me, not just as a sound. It's so cute!! On the down side he is still waking up about every 2 hours overnight. Oh well. We are doing our best to survive, not much else we can do as I am NOT willing to go to sleep school or do controlled crying.

Hi girls! Good to see someone is still out there. I check thru everyday, and nothing ever happens.
Hunter still has only 2 teeth, but has been so grizzly that we think more ane not far away. He hasn't been getting me up every hour at night like he was thank heavens, but he's still very restless. A tip for those teething or yet to teeth, Celery makes GREAT rusks! and much cheeper too. Hunter just LOVES it. It's not as hard as a rusk, so it doesn't hurd his tender gums, and has a bit more flavour too. We tried carrot sticks tonight, but not as sucsessful. abit too hard. A great way to get bubs liking veg!

We have found that Hunter can roll over. He just chooses not to. Even his physio says he's a lazy baby. He knows that if he carries on like a porkchop, someone will come and get him the toy he's after. Why bother rolling and getting it your self???!!! (Sound familiar?) I'm happy to say that Monday I left him on his play mat and went to do the dishes. After a while he started to sound kind of unhappy... not crying...just sort of "Hello?...um... little help....?" I went into the lounge to find him on his tummy. So he can do it. Just can't be bothered. Yes I know all you babies have been doing that for ages, but I did say that Hunter was behind.

Shoegal? you still out there hon? You ok??

BW, all still going well in "Operation Unwrapping"?? I've found that hunter wont sleep properly unless he has both his sleeping bag and a blanket over him. I tried to leave the blankets off nowthat the weather is warmer, but he wasn't having a bar of it. yay. little bugger

Not doing personals for everyone. Sorry. I hope every one is well and bubs are behaving.

    Hi everyone

Yes Lis - here I am, just fine.

Glad to read the updates so far on our babes. Leyla, sounds like Jack is coming along spectacularly! Hi also to Steph.

    In a wrap up, Baxter:

    - has two bottom teeth
    - rolls and rocks on all fours
    - have fruit and veg each day and I'll give him some yoghurt next week
    - weighed 7.720kg yesterday
    - is 69.5cm long
    - is having his last BF tomorrow.

The last point is really quite upsetting. After all the dramas I had in the beginning with his shocking weight gains, now he doesn't want booby! It all started about 3 weeks ago with chronic breast refusal, and as my supply is so, so delicate, it just went downhill from there. So he has been having 1 BF first thing in the morning for about a week and I'm finishing tomorrow. This morning's feed was all screaming and arched back from him. I've had a cry about it and it's made me even more determine to BF next baby to 12 months.

But AF did arrive yesterday which I am hugely thrilled about after my postpartum thyroiditis diagnosis. I've made an appt for early next year with my FS to maybe start thinking about TTC #2, anyone else thinking along these lines??

    Much love

Brady, just a quick one on the arching etc and then AF arriving....I was told early on (I got AF when BJ was 8 weeks) that the hormone change can make the milk bitter, that may have been why he was so unhappy with it

I have to say though, you have done SOOOOO well, I hope you're proud of yourself, you have done a great job!!

We are looking at TTC #2 when Benjamin is about 2 or 3.

As for operation unwrap...we are home and hosed....he had a week in the grobag with arms in, then switched straight to arms out without a hitch.
Attached his dummy with a little dummy chain as he kept flinging it, and he's been sleeping really well....I put him down for his morning sleep today without a dummy at all, and after 5 mins went to sleep...but he's just woken up crying so will give him a few mins to re-settle, if he doesn't I'll plug him up!

Thanks BW, I thought of that link too, fussy little bugger. Thanks for your support too.

We wrapped Baxter til he was 6 months and did Operation Unwrapping too, sooo much better now he can sleep unwrapped. I even had to tuck his arms in when he was in the pram! Yay for Benjamin.

    Hi all!!

Everyone sounds comfy with things, so that's good. We're GREAT. Just great. Out of the woods now for a couple of months, so all's well. Something odd has occurred though.

I thought DS was going along average, his crawling was right on schedule, not early or anything. However, he has been pulling up on things and now he is moving about on furniture. He totally thinks he can walk, and is totally disinterested in crawling. I kid you not. It's freaking us out.

But it makes sense as I knew that baby wearing culture's babies get up and walk at 10 months. I didn't believe it, or at least, didn't think it was possible in our culture. Apparently, being carried all the time makes them stronger. That made no sense as I figured being carried wouldn't be as hard on the muscles. I carried him anyway for other benefits, but I have since learned it is harder on the muscles, something about balancing in-arms. So it turns out to be true. And Ci is about to walk - at 8 months! (He just turned 8 months 3 days ago). He has been a very frustrated baby, he is just SO determined to get ahead and gets so frustrated. I thought he was high needs. He's just way out of his own league, that's all .

He eats a full diet, no reactions. We don't do dairy or eggs yet, but everything else, we do. The dairy I'm holding off cos it's not good for baby guts. When he's 18 months or so perhaps.

He has four teeth which came out of "order". I thought teeth had an order that was sacred. I kept reading "the order is always the same, but they can vary as to when from child to child". But he got his bottom middle two first, but then he got the two on the sides of the middle top next. So he has not middle top teeth, but the two beside it, and looks like dracula. lol The middles are cutting though, horrendously. He teethes badly. I give him white willow bark tea, very strong, and it helps.

He sleeps well. He wakes to feed 1 or 2 times a night, which is fine, and goes back to sleep. But he wakes early, and it is a pain in the butt. If it is before 5, he will resettle, but if it is after 5, he is hard to settle. If he has had a sound night of sleep, he will almost never resettle after 5.30am. So, we're up by 6am around here. But hey, after the hell I walked, that's a cake walk.

I'm really enjoying it all. He really is a beautiful baby. And he is a nice person, too. Although he pinches, bites my nipples sometimes, and is teething on my shoulder which sucks. But we're sorting those bad habits out as we go. I only have facebook pics (hey, anyone on facebook? lemme know and we'll do the hook up) I'll see if I can link the photos from there later.

Bfing is good. We love it. AH, gotta run...

    Hi Janine,
Sounds like Ci is going great guns!

We've got a little bowling ball on our hands over here, rolls here there and everywhere!
He kicks and flaps and wants to crawl (commando) but rolling just gets him where he wants to go so he resorts to that.
Food wise, we;ve got weetbix for brekky, with cos milk on it. Vegies for lunch (with mince meat, or chicken at the moment, but he sometimes forgets to chew them!), and yoghurt or custard and fruit for tea.

We were doing yogurt for lunch, veg for tea, up until 2 days ago, when I switched over, but last night and the night before we did it the other way around and he slept through, so we might stick to this for a while.

Janine I'm on facebook...Shelley Duggan....feel free to add!

hi everyone, i've been lurking but can't often find the time to post, sorry... my alerts \ seems to have disappeared as well, so not sure what's going on there.

shoegal i can understand your feeling sad about weaning, but well done for bf-ing for this long, it's a great achievement.

bw well done with operation unwrap! dd is still wrapped for the first part of the night - i find if i don't, she waves her arms around and grabs things, claws me etc. she does wriggle herself out during the night but it seems to help with that first settling. guess i'll have to change that sometime soon...

fire glad to hear ci's not showing any signs of allergy, after everything you went through with his eczema that must be a relief. my dd is standing too, not cruising exactly (she's just starting to move herself sideways while holding on to things) but pulling herself up everywhere (unfortunately this means ds's low kiddy table is no longer a safe place for lego). she does crawl as well, but standing is her major passion atm.

as for me i'm hanging in there, hoping for sleep improvements and waiting til dd's cold disappears (she's revoltingly snotty and horribly miserable) so i can attempt to implement some changes (like, sleeping for more than an hour at a time). i'm so exhausted my brain seems to be shutting down and i find myself doing stupid things like trying to strap tiny dd into big brother's giant booster seat. thank god dh has some time off over xmas so i can catch up on a bit of sleep.

solids - i'm hopeless with this, just can't seem to find time to cook, mash, puree. dd eats rice cereal, but only a couple of teaspoons a day. she's had banana, didn't exactly love it though, and tried pear (yuk) and apple (yuk). am holding off on the potential allergens (wheat, dairy etc) especially as she still has weird poo indicating some kind of sensitivity to something.

gotta go cook our dinner now. hi to everyone i've missed.

BW - Congrats! Who knew sleeping was so important, hey? I tried to find you in facebook, but there are a lot of people with your name!

I did a huge post of Friday night and then lost it all when the page wouldn't load. So I got the s*&ts and went to bed...

Janine - LOL on the dracula thing! That's hilarious... I'm kinda hoping Liam does something like that now - that would be sooo cool! I'm on facebook too : Toni Scarlett. Not that I'm on there a lot!

Hi to mgm, MagicSH, Shoegal, Leyla, Steph (nice to see you back!) and Ness...

    Liam update:

He's teething. We've got a teething necklace (made of amber) which I think we've conclusively proven WORKS. DH took it off him Thursday afternoon because he caught him chewing on it (he's not supposed to). We forgot to put it back on either Friday or Saturday and last night was HELL! I very generously offered to do all the night wakings all weekend to give DH a break. Reckon I was up 5 times on Friday night and after finally getting to bed around 1.30 am Sunday morning (DH was up with Liam) - I think I got up 4 times. But things got blurry... DH got up to him around 7.30 am and when he got him back to sleep around 8.30 - 9 am, we all slept until after 11.30!!

Needless to say Liam's worn the necklace all day so we'll see how tonight goes.. DH is back on night duty so I'm hoping he won't be too bad.

Liam's now pulling himself up on everything (playpen walls, lounge, us..) to a standing position. He even tries to climb..

He's still taking it slow on solids. I usually manage about 1/3 a small jar once a day. Apple and Mango is his favourite. I'm thinking of trying to give him spoon feeds first thing in the morning (as breakfast). Maybe weetbix? Would I mix it with just water or cows milk? He's not had cows milk yet (except in 'custard' stuff in jars...) so I'm not sure. What do y'all do?

We're flying to Qld on 26 December to see my Dad. Staying with him for 5 days so I've got my fingers crossed that it will go well. Apparently Liam will be uncomfortable flying (mostly on landing) because of the fluid in his ears and because we're not sure which muscles don't work in that area (because of the cleft) so the pressure may be quite bad. Glad we've got direct flights..

Will try to post again soon, but it's a hectic time at work and I'm not sure how much I can get on this week.

    stay well...

MGM, I found trying to cook wsuch small amouts of food for DS hopeless. Then I found "Rafferty's Garden" baby food. It's 100% fruit or veg purees. Comes in a heap of varieties. Made such a difference to us. Hunter will eat almost anything now.
    May be worth a try.

Re food, I just did a big puree batch one morning, steam/boiled, put each one in the blender and whacked them into my breast milk ice trays and into their own bags, marked. Sounds very organised, but really, it was easy.

But mostly, he's on our food. I rarely do the puree thing so it was a waste. We do Baby Led Weaning so he just gets what we get, no need to mash or puree and he is fine. They have a gag reflex, so as long as they are totally upright, they will tongue thrust food out, or gag (looks scary but is a no biggie). He only gagged about three times at 6 months. He doesn't gag at all anymore, he learned very fast how to deal with food.

Nature never supplied mashers or blenders, and nature doesn't make mistakes. So if you are keen to give food, just give food. We are all eating overcooked veggies at the moment but that's ok, he's loving it, plays up a storm, throws food all over the place and I feed him topless now - way too much washing going on otherewise!

(ETA - uh, HE'S the topless one, not me Although DH might like it the other way around...)

We have two spoons, one for me and one for him. But we've worked out a little routine. I load a spoon and put it on his bowl, he shovels it in his gob, throws it over the side to the floor (sometimes I get lucky and he just bangs it down on the table), grabs the second spoon which I preload and rinse repeat. He's fast too, so it's like this big cycle of spoonfuls. Mostly, he thinks purees are an insult , and being fed also seems to insult him, hence our little feed routine when he's in the mood for a spoon. Little sod. So he self feeds. Quite good at it now. Gets it into his eye much less, still up his nose though, which cracks me up when he snorts it out.

For brekky we all have organic oats that have been soaked with water and lemon juice to remove the phytate (I just soak in a slightly warm oven that is off overnight). I mix in some maple syrup with DD's and mine and we all get berries or apple puree mixed through. He uses his hands for this for some reason. I occasionally shovel a spoonful in but he grabs fistfuls of gloop and prefers it that way.

For snacks in the car, he has these dried apple and pear crisps I found or rice crackers or these snacks that are made with corn with carrot powder - he totally digs them and they turn to mush in his mouth fairly fast. He loves fruit, I take the stone out of a peach or plum and he chows on that, spits the skin out (seriously getting good at separating the wheat from the chaff). He loves mango skins after I have eaten the cheek out, he gnaws on the leftover bits of that. Loves grapes, goes nuts over nana's bowl of grapes but he insists I hold the grape while he gnaws on that cos he can't grasp it well enough. So like a little squirrel he pushes my fist to his mouth. Cute.

He likes lettuce. I discovered this when I was sick to death of how much paper he eats! I was like, LETTUCE! That's kinda like paper, let's give it a go. And yeah, he digs it. I think he mostly sucks the juice out and rips it with his teeth like he does paper.

Lunch used to be a jar of organic baby food (too tired at lunch to be all mother earthy and *****) but now he is eating bread or rice crackers, plain or with baba ganoush, hummous or something like that on it.

Dinner is anything. He loves Thai food, curry, duck, lamb bones... zucchini seems to be his favorite veg. I mash nothing, it's all up to him. I knew he'd like spicy food because I ate a lot of it while pregnant, it was one of my cravings.

I really can't be arsed with that baby rice routine. I tasted it and you have GOT to be kidding. I bought organic brown baby rice from a HFS and he will occasionally eat that with something mixed in but he also thinks it is a bit bland.

So food has been lotsa fun. I totally recommend ditching the standard western take on baby feeding if you were interested, MGM, as you are similar to me in these ways. DS also rejects bananas, which surprised me. But the two times I managed to get some into him, it constipated him so we're off them for the time being.

Janine - that sounds brilliant and I'd love to do it, but with the cleft, I can't put anything with any sort of 'chunks' into Liam's mouth. Must be mush otherwise it can get lodged in his nasal cavity However, I've found he loves gnawing on celery sticks - so they're in vogue at the moment!

he he he - I thought you meant topless for you when I first read it I thought "interesting..." because I never used to have to wear a clean T-shirt every day, but now Liam christens every one within an hour - so I do! Going topless for me would mean less washing

Isn't it wonderful that as new mums we have a place to discuss issues without feeling like we are being judged?! Afterall, isn't that the last thing a new mum needs.

Sorry, i just cant breath for all the smug in here.
    Have a nice life girls

MS we use the raffertys garden food if we are out (nice and convenient to keep in the Nappy bag).
    Benjamin loves it!!
We use it every now and then too if I haven't had time to do a veggie batch...so damned time conduming making up the cubes of each flavour.

Luckily though we are at the point now where I can do a batch that will last a few days, of a few mixed together, instead of each different one on its own.
But it was a hassle when I had to do each one as he was only just starting.

On the teeth front, we still only have 2 here, which is perfectly "Average" and I'm happy with that. The mchn said he's likely to get all 4 of his top ones very close together (oh yay....thats gonna be fun!)

Benjamin had a little bit of a festy time last night, and this morning his ear looked a tad crusty so its off to the Dr this arvo to ge thim checked out as he's prone to ear infections and has had one perforation before.

Im still waiting for any sign of crawling...we occasionally get what looks like he might start a commando, then he rolls where he needs to go, but, average age for crawling is around 10 months, so we have a ways to go....so many advanced babies in here...my little fella remains average, and thats awesome!

Hi to everyone...I hope you're all good.

    **update**
Yep...just as I suspected (thanks to lots of experience with sore ears in childcare) Benjamin has an ear infection....his left one this time, not his right.

goodbye magic seahorse. i'm sorry you feel judged, although i'm not sure why you do - i think i must have missed something there. i wonder if by 'smug' you are talking about people posting about their babies' achievements or milestones? sometimes this may come across as boasting, but i think it's natural for people to be excited about their babies' different stages. by the way, did i mention that my dd already knows the alphabet and has just started changing her own nappy?

bw, do you mean the rafferty's garden cereal, or are there ones in jars? i'm giving dd the brown rice one atm. bummer about that ear infection; hope it clears up soon.

nettie how long do you have to continue with the mush? i must give celery sticks a try - dd likes chewing on carrot (she has no teeth so a thick carrot's pretty safe) and i bet celery would go down well, too.

fire thanks for those thoughts. i would like dd to have a more 'infant-led' eating experience, but i want to try a few more one-at-a-time foods before i let her loose on my lunch and dinner. btw, nature didn't supply blenders - but it did give us teeth so we could chew up our food and pass a little to baby (not that i'd want to give her my cold germs...)! it also provided bananas and avocado - so easily mashed. i had the same problem as you with ds and bananas, they were too constipating, especially in conjunction with rice cereal. as dd tends to the other extreme she should be ok!

off to soothe my sore throat with some tea now...
