DH went to one pharmacy in the city who was all set to give it to him without a script, but they didn't have it in stock. So he got home and jumped on his scooter (his new toy) and went to one local pharmacy who refused to give either zantac or infant gaviscon to him, insisted she actually just had wind, and sold him Infacol drops... I phoned another pharmacy (by this time it's almost 7pm and coming up to Millie's next feed) and spoke to the pharmacist - he said a script is needed for infant zantac, but he had infant gaviscon in stock and would I like to get it in the morning - hell no we need it tonight!! I shooed DH out the door and begged the guy to stay open for a few more minutes. He did, God bless 'im Tried it in the next feed... she got a lot more down before spitting out the bottle and yelling, and after a bit of a rest and settle she took the rest. We gave her a bath and she went to bed with minimal fuss. Poor little thing was exhausted. The early morning feed (generally between 2-4am) has been the worst so I will reserve my celebratory dance until after that one.
It's just very annoying that you get different stories everywhere you go. GP says no script. One pharmacist says it's not recommended at all. Another says sure you can have it without script. Another says you have to have script. And then the wonderful people who think they know better than the GP and the parents and deny that it's reflux at all. I don't mind following regulations as far as scripts, medications etc are concerned but can they all get their stories straight?!
