It must have been the night last night Jules. We had Harper sceaming from about 7:30-9:30pm in a huge amount of wind pain. I know it wasn't reflux this time which made it a little easier, all i could do was hold her, comfort her and try and help with the pain. She was popping off like crazy and not sure about you guys but from my expereince the boys wind never really smelt at such a young age but the poor little lady has a whiff on her. Harper hadn't had a pooey bott since Thurs or Fri so i think it was a combination of wind and really needing to empty her little bowels. She had her pooey bott this morning so we should have a happy bub for the next few days now. Oh and she had immus yesterday so i suppose it could have been that also. So much to contend with for bub and parents.

Jules i'm so happy things are looking up for you and little Jacob, the zantac can really make for a different bub can't it. No more screaming and climbing up the belly. When going through it with Harper and knowing myself something wasn't right from expereince i really thought about how it would be for first time parents and not knowing if something wasn't right or if it was normal. But i'm glad from reading my posts and others that you were able to use the information and your motherly instinct to help Jacob.

Thanks for the tips girls, i don't want to be one of those who gives unwanted opinions i just want to give support and useful tips to know ahead of time. Simple things like bub will enjoy the bath a lot more if she's not hungry. And Kaz i will try and give her some good useful information about breastfeeding.

Ok girls i'll have to come back too much distraction at the moment.

    Talk soon

    hey ladies

Cathie - your poor little girl Yay on Charlie's hearing! We had the hospital hearing program come through, I'm quite glad cause the test they do with the bells and seeing if the bub startles isn't great when there's a lot of noise in the house already - Will doesn't startle, he just looks around and gets back to whatever he was thinking.

Jules - you and EJ have made me think - Will does pull off and I thought it was cause low supply? So I've started burping him and he goes back onto me.... so thankyou!!!!

EJ - you should post what you give her here I might learn something I've been missing!!! How did H go with her needles? I think we get ours in about 2 weeks?

us - well, this morning was a bit weird, I got Will up @ 10:30 and put him on me, then changed him, and he wasn't interested in a bottle! So I made my brekky and ate it while he played on his floor gym / mat and he only just started fussing for his bottle! Quite happy about that. Going to the MCHN this afternoon, will find out his weight and whether we can drop the formula amount cause he's getting more from me. We're moving out of "small" MCN and into "medium" - the NB just don't fit at all!!!!

Mum & Dad are coming down in March, then we'll be driving up to Brissie. The thought of driving with Pip, 2 dogs & Will is giving me anxiety attacks, so we'll get pip to fly up with Mum & Dad so we can just concentrate on Will on his first long drive.

OK, I've finished his bottle, time to get dressed and do a few loads of washing - the FoldMore ranges are hidden by Mt Washmore - might need O2 for the climb of that!!
Have a great day ladies & bubs!!!

Hey Cathie - I FINALLY got him to sleep sometime just after 10pm, I was exhausted. Little rat bag just didn't want to play the game Luckily he's cute. And unfortunately he most certainly did NOT give me a full nights sleep but it's coming I'm sure...How's Charlie today? How about Lily? I hope you didn't have too many dramas before school today.

EJ - Sorry to hear you had one of those nights too!! Jacob has been majorly popping off here too!! He has had a decrease in dirty nappies but is still doing about three or four big ones a day. He just doesn't go at all through the night, only wet ones. Which makes changes quick and hassle free!! Speaking of dirty nappies, yesterday afternoon about 5.30pm I had just finished feeding him and was giving him a burp, he was sitting on my breastfeeding pillow and smiling at me when he did a MASSIVE fart and not only did he fill his nappy but he also covered the pilllow, his clothes and my legs....ewwwwww, it was straight into the shower for us! I think your book is a great idea, I think there should be one we could all buy! Just general knowledge! It goes such a long way for a mums with new bubs! You're doing a great thing. How did Harper handle her needles? hopefully not too traumatic for her.

Kaz - that's fantastic!!! Jake did the same thing, it took me a while to figure it out. Glad it's working! Don't doubt that supply lady!! You're doing wonderfully! Try not to worry about the drive too much, I was nervous too but it all went relatively smooth, they do adjust. If anything, it's the best Jacob sleeps! But you don't have a problem with Will, he sounds like a great snoozer.

MadB - haven't heard from you in a while, hope you, Miri and DS are all doing well!

AFU - all good here, later than usual night last night but we got there in the end. Getting loads of smiles and this cute little giggle, I'm enjoying my little boy so much! I know every baby is different and all that jazz but I'm just wondering, other breast feeding mums, how long are your bubs feeding for?? I can only get a good ten minutes solid out of Jake now and it's only on one breast! I'm not sure if that's why he's only going two hourly-ish through the day but I just can't get him to take more...

    Have a great afternoon! xoxo

hey jules, little monkey, he will let you have a goodnight sleep soon. Your BF?
Kaz - Yeah I'm so glad that charlie's hearing is fine.

Well Lily only cried a little this morning, I'm thinking that I should just drop her off with Jack and than Jack can walk her to her class room. Me being there is making her cry as soon as she see's me she starts. What do you think ladies?

Yep, breastfeeding... he'll get there, he's definately a big enough boy to go all night...
I think that's a great idea, getting Jack to walk her to the classroom. I'm not experienced at any of this but I think that she probably feels more comfortable showing you she's unhappy whereas with her big brother there she will feel like she can/has to be stronger? Dunno, worth a shot anyway!

Oh EJ, before I forget once again...my sister in law is a pharmacist and she was telling me that there is another medication to treat silent reflux/reflux and it's the next level up if Zantac doesn't work. If you think that the problems you're having at night time are due to the reflux perhaps you could discuss with her doctor? Just a suggestion, sounds like Zantac is doing wonders so it's probably totally unnecessary but I just remembered her telling me and I keep forgetting to mention it to you. If you want the name of it let me know and I'll ask her xoxo

Once again it's 10pm and Harper has only just finished crying and being grumpy. Tonight i don't think it was reflux or wind it was just a grumpy bub. And yet she has been an angel all day and slept 4hrs and 3hrs. One of these nights we'll put her down at 7pm without any issues.

So where did i leave off earlier??

PP the boys had a great time together. DH said Charlie was so funny, if he had a drink of his beer, Charlie had a drink of his water, if he scratched his head, Charlie scratched his head He's such a little copy cat. In one of my email updates i'm pretty sure i read that dribbling now is a normal thing. Harper blows bubbles sometimes I had the best success with BBH with Charlie and so far with Harper. Although i did buy a few they had on sale (i think they were Petites) and i got small thinking that would be fine and they are too small for Harper Waste of money there unfortunately. I love the Magic-alls. I hope you're feeling ok and do ask for that referal next time you're at the dr's even if you go one visit and realise all is ok it's better than not going at all and needing to. I love the photos of your little lady, i can often see Harper in them

Cathie so glad Charlie boys hearing is all good, that must be such a relief. What a way to instill the fear in such little ones That's not fair, beginning school is intimidating enough as it is withouth having to be scared of the teacher and putting a foot wrong. Hope things settle for her and she's giving you a hug, a kiss and a happy wave goodbye very soon.

Kaz i'll see how i go and i'll try and show you guys what the end result of what i write up for her. If i ever get the chance... These 10pm night with little miss make is so hard to get anything done. Harper wasn't too bad with the needles themselves, she definately wasn't happy about it though. She ended up having a really unsettled night with a lot of wind so really don't know if needles had anything to do with that at all!?!? Today she slept all day and was a little grizzly when she woke between 1:30-2:30 i think that may have been to do with the needles. Oh and she's had 3 pooey botts today compared to having 1 every 2-3 days. That'd be the rotavirus i think. How exciting will it be if you are able to drop a formual feed!? I have to say it once again that you have done an amazing job perserveering with being able to feed your little one. Formula defiatley has it's place for bubs and mum, looked where it helped get you guys? I'm so happy for you and if you do get to exclusivley feed Will make sure you tell yourself every day how well you've done to get there

Jules i wonder if the wind has anything to do with the zantac?? I definately noticed the change in her bowels once she was on it. Not sure if it's just her or a common thing? Yukky poo explosion you guys had there, i'm a little nervous when Harper does one considering it's 2 or 3 days worth Jules Harper is sleeping anywhere from 4-6hrs at night now. That started once the zantac kicked in and with the unsettled time she has she gets lots of feeds offererd to her so she can fill up and therefore make it through if she wants to. She generally wakes once at night and is feeding on both sides. Have you tried to resettle of an evening? It may just be Jacobs way and something he will grow out of in time. You'll know if and when you want to change things. Thanks for the info on the other medication. I think you may be talking about losec!? I only know about it from reading the reflux threads and in the beginning i was wondering if we'd need to change as zantac didn't seem to be working but it eventually did. When we saw the dr yesterday he didn't talk about increasing the dose in any way just decreasing it. He said for now leave it as it is and have a good few weeks of her being better and then try cutting back the dose. If we can do that with no ill effect then in another couple of weeks cut back another and then eventually she may not need it at all. At the same time though he said if you cut back and she seems to get unsettled again she's not ready. Hopefully they've grown out of it by the 3ish month mark.

Ok that's it for me, all is pretty good here, just hope the evenings settle down soon. I'm off to bed, good night.

Hi guys. I'm officially on BB break, but thought I'd pop in and catch up.

Kaz - your poor mum! that's really quite disgusting way to treat a new mother. Sonds like the feeding is going really well

Pixie - hope you get that referal. I was starting to wonder if I needed to do that too... but of course I'm feeling fine when out with other people or at the docs. Stopping my BB compulsion has helped, strange as it may seem - I find I use it to ignore my children too much (and I appreciate the irony since this is a parenting website). So I'm just trying to get a handle on things and take it from there. I think part of the issue for me is the readjustment. I was just getting used to have me time again with a fully mobile, conversant child... and now I'm back into full=time mummy mode.

Ah, Miri's awake, I gotta go.

Oh, advice - Give yourself permission to listen to your child, trust your instincts and do what works for you.

OK. Now I have a little more time.

Glad Charlie's test went well Cathie. I hope Lily is doing ok. I think public shaming is totally inappropriate for little children.

I'm really glad to hear things are getting better for you Jules and EJ. The first 10 weeks or so with DS were a blur, but I do remember the point at which we'd seemed to turn a corner. It makes things a lot easier when they can lie down, that's for sure!

Miri's in medium nappies too. It's amazing how fast they grow, isn't it? It's second time round and I'm still blown away. By this time with DS I was back in full-time work and DH was a SAHD.... wow. And I guess she's due for her immunisations now too. Is anyone skipping/delaying at all? I'm not going to do the rotarvirus one.

Anyway, she's doing very well. Growing etc. Waking more in the night just now, but I've got feeding while lying down working for me so it's not so bad. Some days she sleeps heaps, some not much at all. What can you do? I'm trying to follow my own advice and relax and go with it. I was getting a bit anxious about things for a while there. Felt really crap last week, and then came down with a cold. Now, snot notwithstanding, I'm feeling a lot better
I *think* she laughed the other day. Um, what else do we talk about with newborns...? OH, poo! Well she's going a bit less frequently, every other day or so.

I made some trimmer nappies, but have discovered the pockets are a bit tricky to stuff without overdoing it and causing leaks. I do like the fit though so I might make some AIOs or figure out a way to do sew-in-ones or something, so they don't take quite so long to dry. My BumGs are falling apart, so I actually need to make some more.
Someone mentioned Magicalls and leaks...? I found they need to be prewashed a LOT of times to avoid leaking straight out the sides and need to be pulled pretty tight too.

I've started doing some exercise - using the rowing machine as recommended by the physio. DS has to have a go too though. Right now it's ok as I'm so unfit I can only do a few minutes at a time anyway. I hope the novelty will wear off. On his daycare days I plan to do some exercises on the fit ball. Anyway, now my tummy muscles hurt. I have tummy muscles!

hahaha yeah, poo ... how could you forget!!! Well Will is due for vaccs this week, but he and I both now have a cold, so I'm going to wait until he's over that. I find it easier to check for any reactions if he's well.

MadB - I haven't managed to get to make any nappies yet - I don't know how you've managed to do that! Yesterday I did a WiiFit workout, had to wait until DH took Pip away so I could do it in peace, else he wants to take over the Wii But geeze I managed a sweat! Found it really hard jogging on the spot, had to hold my boobs while they bounced and my jellybelly was bouncing up and down too. Might have to jog outside and get a good bra for it ...

Friend who's due on Saturday came over today, she's so well and active!! I keep telling her she's a biartch!!! We think she'll go over, but I've lent her a few nappies that Will has already grown out of, she can try them and then I'll sell them (hopefully to her!). Just 2 PUL covers, one fleece cover, a beehinds AIO and another fitted nappy. Showed her how to make a flat into a "prefold" to tuck inside the cover - does anyone else do that? Just put a prefold between the legs and a tight PUL cover over the top, works a treat and dries quickly.

Anyhows, according to WonderWeeks we should be "stormy" at the moment, but he's quite calm, not sure what's happening there!!!

    But, off to the Wii!!!!

Made one up. Think I've made it too bulky, but will remove the sewn-in bit if it doesn't work like this. Just need to pre-wash... I sew while pushing her in the pram in between stitching... when DS isn't here, obviously

    8:30pm woo hoo

Tonight she woke up at 6pm so i got her to have a shower with DH, gave her a massage and fed her, she fell asleep feeding before 7pm so i put her to bed. She didn't last long but with a little going back and forth and another feed she settled again. And it's now 8:30pm and i'm not patting her little backside. I'm so excited.

My eyes are sore i'm so tired so i might have an early night. The only down fall having her in bed this early is i'll probably be up for 2 feeds throughout the night It's ok i just wanted us to have a better bedtime routine going. Lets see if we can repeat it tomorrow night.

Hope all is well i'm going to make the most of my early night.

    Sweet dreams girls xo

Hi all! Sheesh, I’ve been off for awhile. I just haven’t sat down to the laptop at all, have just been fiddling with fb on my phone. It’s nice to be back

Jules, I know I need to do this too but just let other peoples’ words go in one ear out the other. Don’t feel like a failure just because one person doesn’t agree with how you are doing things. I think failure as a parent means doing something that doesn’t sit well with you and your child… or, like, starvation You love Jacob SO much and are doing an amazing job with him.

Cathie that’s just heartbreaking that Lily doesn’t like school. Give it a shot sending her in with Jake – she might try and be a “big girl” for her big brother. It’s good that they are at the same school – my niece only has her big brother with her this year – she’s in kinder and he’s in year 6. Glad Charlie’s hearing is fine! That’s a relief.

EJ sorry to hear about Harper’s wind That’s ages without a pooey bott! Jeepers! The bubbles are so cute, Millie is intentionally blowing raspberries now. She thinks she’s absolutely hilarious! Glad DH and Charlie had a lovely time together, and hooray for an 8.30pm finish!

Kaz that’s awesome about Will not fussing for the bottle for awhile! Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful I had the reverse happen with Millie, she’d be on the boob for ages and then automatically scream for her bottle. So you are totally on the right track there, lady! I hear you about the exercise jiggles… I was chanting the “need a new bra” mantra at Zumba on Tuesday!

MadB we’re going with the standard immunisation schedule, although we did refuse the Hep B straight after birth as it seemed too much for such a tiny body to handle, especially since she wasn’t at risk. We’re going o/s in June and she’s going into daycare in July and I just want to give her as much protection as we can. I luuuuurve Miri’s nappies, they look so cute

So, it has been a busy week. Monday I had my last session at the official local parent info session - the nurses were obviously trying to get us pre-Christmas Mummies to get our act together, so we did… Tuesday was a stay-home day which was the worst thing I could have done in terms of my mental state. I thought Millie might need a quiet day at home as we’ve been so busy, with a late night for her cousin’s birthday on Monday night, and she did – she was very good and slept very well, but I was a bit glum. Zumba helped a bit that night but the jiggling meant that I didn’t get into it so much! Wednesday us Mummies met up for coffee and a movie – No Strings Attached which was a bit crude to begin with but had some genuinely funny moments. We were all just so stoked to be out doing grown up things together. It was nice. I never thought I’d be into mothers’ group, but it has been great. Thursday we all went for a walk in Parra Park and today was yoga. Am I being too busy for Millie do you think? She has been fantastic – seems to like being out and having new things to look at in the morning, and then generally settles well in the afternoons. She has had a couple of hissy fits this week, but I think it’s just her asserting herself… I should add that her hissy fits tend to last only 20 minutes and an unsettled period means that she wakes completely between cycles and needs resettling, but this is rare. She’s a really good baby! I don’t want to over stress her, but I just find I need to get out of the house at least once a day.

I went for the ultrasound on Thursday – I have a lump in my jaw that is affecting chewing and occasionally sleeping. The films were being sent to my doc today so I’ll go see her about that on Monday… and yes I will get a referral to a counselor. It is ridiculous as Millie is a gorgeous little girl and so good for the vast majority of the time, there are no medical issues and I’m sure I’m doing a good job with her… but I just don’t feel right in myself. I have been through counseling before and I know it will help. Thanks for your support ladies.

I got the BBH trial pack… kinda wish I had got the medium pack! Most of the products are multifit but there’s two small there and the petite looks waaaay too small for my munchkin. The bamboo takes forever to dry which is annoying, I think I will make some microfibre inserts.

DH is away for a buck’s weekend! He’s the self-designated sensible person so I’m not too worried about him. Not so sure about the groom though…

Time for leftover risotto for dinner mmmmm… take care ladies, and have a lovely weekend!

DS had nightmares about risotto the other night.
There's this microwave risotto I make very frequently (partly because DS loves it) - he calls it corn rice. DH got up to him cryign in his sleep and yelling I DON'T LOVE CORN RICE!!!
mum couldn't stop laughing when I told her. Then brought round some recipe books.
