I think I know what you mean about how you feel pixie, sometimes I feel like that too. DD is so much easier than DS but I don't feel right somehow. I've never seen a counsellor before. How does it work? WHat do you talk about and how?

Marcellus - that's funny with the risotto!!!! One of the meals I often do is cook some rice and put some frozen veg in with it for the last 3 mins, then stir through some chutney or relish (or onion jam if you have any!!!). Fry up a lamb backstrap, marinated in tomato stuff (the butchers do them, not woolies or coles) and then chop it up into bit-size pieces and stir the lamb + pan juices through the rice - easy and yum!!!!!

Counseling is gernerally the first session you talk about your history in a guided conversation. The second session can be more history, or just an update on what's happened since the first session, and some coping mechanisms you can start to use. These may be exercises with the baby to bond more, or reading, or writing a diary, lists etc. See your GP or MCHN as there are teams who can help which won't cost you anything.

Anyhows, I'm off today to lunch with some BB ladies including Sopdet, Maz, Tinks & Divvy! have a great day all!

Oh no!!! Just lost a huge post...here we go again!! Going to be somewhat shorter as I'm running out of time...

EJ - Harper sounds like she's doing wonderful on Zantac, I definately wouldn't change a thing! I hate giving Jacob his, he cries and tries his best not to swallow it - it makes me feel terrible. But the improvement makes it so worth it - I notice that if I miss a dose by accident due to hectic days or something he is really uncomfortable and unhappy. Yay on the 8.30 sleep! Great job! I need to concentrate now on getting Jacob to sleep in his cot at night time - he's still on the floor with me on a mattress and I would really like to get back into my bed sometime soon. I just hope I haven't created a bad habit. He settles so well when he can see me as he dozes off to sleep...

MadB - Great to see you on here, I understand you limiting your computer time but we love to hear from you when you get a chance! Sewing and pushing a pram at the same time...wow, you're a super multitasking mummy!

Kaz - How's the wii going? I definately need a new bra too... I have been going walking but haven't had the chance to crack out zumba yet...I have organised the lounge so I can start hopefully tomorrow!! Will let you know how it goes! Hope you enjoyed your lunch.

PP - Thanks for your kind words, I think you're doing an amazing job also, Millie looks soooo happy and healthy, and anyone can see how much you love her. She's lucky to have you as a mum. I have decided to have selective hearing when those negative people are around me, as what I'm doing suits me and Jacob and I'm happy with things the way they are. I don't have any experience to base this opinion on but I believe children need to fit in with our lifestyles too, so if that's what you did before then don't change it....sounds like she's doing just fine with the outings anyway! She probably loves it, the little socialite! I worried about taking Jacob travelling so much as we are always going somewhere but he has handled it well.

AFU - All good here, finally got an airconditioner put into Jacobs room so I'm sleeping on the floor on the mattress in there until he's settled then I plan to move back to my bedroom with DH but so far he hasn't had a night in his cot, he just settles so much better when he can see me...so I gotta slowly break that habit. Other than that, the zantac is still working it's wonders and we're having many happy days with plenty of smiles and giggles, I'm just so addicted to them!

I have a possibly really stupid question - is it safe to get your hair coloured while breastfeeding? I didn't get it done while I was pregnant due to chemicals but not sure if the chemicals still matter now with breast feeding or not?? I sorta feel embarrassed asking but I haven't had it done yet cause I am trying to play it safe, but man oh man, I would LOVE to get it done!

Hope you're all having a great weekend. xoxo

    Enjoy your lunch Kaz

Can you fit the matress or cot in your room at all Jules? Sometimes it's easier for the transition to do in bed togetner, slide baby over to cot next to bed - put baby down in cot - move cot further away gradually, or something like that. Or baby on matress on floor of your room, you in your bed... i've said it before but don't worry about 'bad' habits (it's not bad for him to want his mummy during th enight or to settle better that way, and if you're all getting more sleep this way then it's better anyway). Anyways, give it some time and see how you go. Have you read the No Cry Sleep Solution? It has lots of ideas for this sort of thing.

That's so good Jules. Don't ever think to yourself you've created a bad habit, like MadB keeps saying you just do what works. If having Jacob sleep with you meant you got some sleep too then there's nothing wrong with that. Then, if and when you're ready to change things you do it, with a little gentle persuasion i'm sure Jacob will allow you to hop back into your bed

Well there you go! What were you worrying about? (just kidding)
It's always easiest to wait till they're ready to change before trying anything - don't do it when things are difficult.
After deciding to spend all day yesterday awake, miri's back to sleeping today. only 40 minutes at a time, but she's on her 3rd or 4th nap now, so a bit easier. DS is off with my parents till tomorrow arvo The dogs must be getting a real workout.

Haha I know!! I was amazed!! I just stayed really relaxed and put him in his cot like I had for the past four nights and thought 'lets see what tonight brings!' and he was wonderful! I was so proud, we had success earlier than expected. Glad I just kept trying.

yay!!!!!!!! Great work Jules!!!!! It should be OK to get your hair dyed!

MadB - hope you get a good night's rest tonight, I hear you on the dogs with your DS!!!!!!!

AFM - Will has had his developmental leap! He's now playing with his hanging toys on his playgym. Still sleeping well, although last night he slept from 9pm until 2am for his next feed, then until 8:30. So although it was a broken sleep, there was a decent break between feeds. And of course, I've told DH that next time Will wakes for a 6am feed I'm taking the dogs for a walk after - and he hasn't woken at 6ish since!!!!!

DH & Pip are watching ScoobyDoo that we taped on Friday night, I've been folding clothes (2 baskets down, around 4 to go ) and I'll be cooking tea very soon, mexican tonight, YAY!

Jules - Excellent what a good little boy.

Twins have been so much better since Lily started school just wondering if Lily had something to do with there behaviour. I think so......
Lily wants to go to school tomorrow as she is going to catch the bus home yay for the bus, it drops the kids off right in front of our driveway, just have to walk down to get them.

Hi everyone! I just haven't been able to get onto my computer much at all so I haven't caught up here or on FB.

Our Sydney trip was great. Everyone loved meeting Eden and he was just a dream child the whole time. He was wonderful on the plane too. He had his immunisation on the day before we left and I was worried he was going to be unsettled but luckily he slept for 4 days straight! He is still sleeping through the night. Some mornings I wake him around 5.30/6am as DS1 still wakes early.

As usual we came back from Sydney with colds. Thankfully Eden didn't catch it but the rest of us did. I then got mastitis again, last Friday. I got into my accupuncturist and seemed to get ontop of it. I am fully better today. I'm even contemplating returning to the gym today.

I hope you're all well and I'll read through the posts as soon as I'm able to .....

Hopefully I'll be able to get onto BB a little more

Bahhahahahaha MadB – poor DS having nightmares about risotto! With counseling… I guess it depends on the style of the person. The last lady I saw sort of asked me “so how are you?” at the beginning of each session (after the history was established) and let me talk myself around in circles until I was all unwound, and would then ask one or two reeeeeally targeted, pertinent questions that would unlock a whole lot of thoughts, emotions and perspective. Then she’d give me a couple of things to work on/focus on. I thought about going back to her, and if things don’t work out with this new one, I will, but I feel like they are separate issues and I’d kind of like to start fresh with someone new. She’s also situated further away now so it’s also a matter of convenience. My GP listened to me this morning and has listed it as PND, but I feel like it’s an identity thing… like the person I was before isn’t there anymore and I’m “just” Mummy. I LOVE being Amelia’s mum, don’t get me wrong, but the way I feel about myself has changed. Self esteem has never been my strong suit so I’m hoping this lady can give me some perspective.

Kaz that recipe sounds YUMMY. It sounds like Will is doing so well Man, folding… it’s neverending!

Jules, awesome that Jacob has slept in his cot! If Millie freaks out when I go to walk away I sit on the floor next to her cot and read, or sing, or talk to her. She usually just drifts off happily then. Re: the lifestyle thing… that’s just it, I was always a homebody before – happy to read/sew etc and wouldn’t necessarily go out for days at a time during the school holidays if I had some good books or DVDs (or God forbid had some marking etc to do ).

Cathie I’m so glad Lily wants to go to school and good on the twins – they must feel like the responsible big siblings now!

Hi Georgi! Welcome back What a good boy Eden is, glad the immunisations didn’t cause any issues.

So, as for us... Millie has started freaking out during some feeds – she’ll start okay, but either when I stop to burp her, or she spits out the bottle, she starts to cry and squirm and struggle and I can’t get her to take it back. She’s got all these strategies now to avoid finishing the bottle, like she’ll take it and suck, but then let it all dribble out the side of her mouth. So from being an enthusiastic, super-efficient feeder, she has become a fussy, messy little grot. She only finishes maybe one bottle per day, and leaves a good chunk of most of the others. Last night she screamed the house down after 20mL, and in spite of position changes, burping, gripe water etc she would not take anymore. So I asked my GP about it this morning and she said we’d start watching her for reflux, even though she’s not actually vomiting. Booooo. Had her weighed and measured as a baseline, she’s 5.5kg and 61cm long!! She was asleep in her cot a minute ago but she woke up coughing then started crying – Doc said her chest is completely clear so the cause of the coughing is more likely digestive than respiratory. So she’s next to me in her rocker now – it’s adjustable so she’s sitting slightly upright which seems to make her happy. She’s batting at her toys and sucking on her fist, like… really slurping. Cute

The lump in my jaw is nothing drastic – looks like a type of cyst in/on my parotid gland. It comes and goes and given that it’s all wound up with the facial nerve I really don’t want to risk surgery. So it will do its come-and-go routine and I’ll just deal with it. And obviously I got the referral. First available appointment is on 3 March so I’ll hang out til then.

UPDATE: just fed Millie and for once she took her whole bottle. She looks completely drunk now YAY. Now I have to go out and buy a cake for my FIL’s birthday. So I have to juggle a baby and a cakebox. This should be fun.

    Hope you’re all well!

Glad your trip went well Georgi! Have you done ultrasound for your breasts? sometimes it helps with recurrent lumps etc.

Sitting upright helping Pixie? DS was always happier upright early on. Luckily his reflux eased off by 12 weeks or so. Some kids have it for aaaages. A friend's daughter had a cough for yonks (she's about 18 months now) was diagnosed with asthma and something else. finally saw a different doctor and found it's probably all to do with reflux - she's on meds and hopefully it'll be sorted soon. She might also have asthma, but they have to fix the reflux first.

Yay for Will Kaz. I think Miri's almost there too.

hmmmm Cathie... maybe there's extra good news in Lily going to school. The bus sounds very handy!

DH has gone to pick up DS. Making spag bog for dinner - hope we don't have any more bad dreams

Cathie - yay on the twin's behaviour!!! Glad Lily's a bit happier with school too.

georgi - awww on the trip Haven't heard about acupuncture for mastitis before?

PP - that's really annoying about the bottle But well done on you and Millie for persisting - drunk babies rock!!!!

AFM - Hanging out for Will to wake up, my right BB is lumpy and I want him to feed off it. He's due in the next half hour, but don't know if I can wait that long? It's hurting Little bugger was attached to me from about 2am until 5am this morning, but he fell asleep on the left (no right) at the 10am feed, and then DH gave him a bottle at 1:30 cause I was on the phone to Telstra (80 minute phone call!)

    Hi all!

MadB, Millie definitely prefers to be upright. So in her stroller, car seat, carrier or rocker (or on my lap ) she's perfectly happy. I will have to elevate one end of her cot I think because she fussed a lot going down for this latest sleep, even though it was about 2 hours since her last feed and she'd been in the stroller and car seat for that time. Bummer about the misdiagnosis for your friend's little one. When Millie started coughing, asthma was my first thought since I have it, but it's only feed related and she's super healthy otherwise.

Kaz I know it was painful, but gee that's awesome that your supply has got to that point! I saw a sign outside a primary school this morning: "The only time success comes before work is in the dictionary." Oh so true... your hard work is paying off

So, I went back to the GP today (two days in a row, that sucks!!! but her feeds were terrible last night and her nappies haven't been very wet) and had to feed Millie in the waiting room. Oh my goodness she made a scene. Poor little chook. Doc said that I didn't need a script for Zantac, but recommended it, so off I went to the pharmacy. The pharmacist wouldn't let me have it! He said it's not recommended for infants (wth, I know Harper and Jacob are on it!!!???) and instead suggested the AR formula. Which, I guess, kind of makes sense - if there's a non-medicated way of helping her, since she's already ff... okay, we'll try it. So, another can of formula, another set of teats.

Ah she's awake, I'll let you know how it goes.

...okay, so she got about 120mL into her before she refused it and started yelling. She won't let me put her down at all, she's draped over my forearm like a leopard in a tree. I've asked DH to check at another pharmacy on the way home. This is awful, when she's crying she looks at me like "Mummy make it better" and I CAN'T. Jules and EJ I so feel for you and your little ones.

    Gotta go.

What about infant gaviscon?? You can buy that over the counter. Does she throw her head back when she's screaming PP? Supposedly that's is a sign!? We too find Harper likes that over the arm hold.

Pweeeeheehee MadB... I'll keep that in mind for next time

Yes, EJ, she was throwing her head back. Poor little thing it was hard to keep a hold on her.

DH went to one pharmacy in the city who was all set to give it to him without a script, but they didn't have it in stock. So he got home and jumped on his scooter (his new toy) and went to one local pharmacy who refused to give either zantac or infant gaviscon to him, insisted she actually just had wind, and sold him Infacol drops... I phoned another pharmacy (by this time it's almost 7pm and coming up to Millie's next feed) and spoke to the pharmacist - he said a script is needed for infant zantac, but he had infant gaviscon in stock and would I like to get it in the morning - hell no we need it tonight!! I shooed DH out the door and begged the guy to stay open for a few more minutes. He did, God bless 'im Tried it in the next feed... she got a lot more down before spitting out the bottle and yelling, and after a bit of a rest and settle she took the rest. We gave her a bath and she went to bed with minimal fuss. Poor little thing was exhausted. The early morning feed (generally between 2-4am) has been the worst so I will reserve my celebratory dance until after that one.

It's just very annoying that you get different stories everywhere you go. GP says no script. One pharmacist says it's not recommended at all. Another says sure you can have it without script. Another says you have to have script. And then the wonderful people who think they know better than the GP and the parents and deny that it's reflux at all. I don't mind following regulations as far as scripts, medications etc are concerned but can they all get their stories straight?!

    Night all.
