Nic - Loren does startle herself awake but she hates being swaddled to sleep. Maybe once she is asleep I could swaddle her so that her hands don't jump and wake her up. Loren used to love sleeping on her back but she hates it now.

My question: Is it ok for bub to sleep in a bouncer? I feel bad having her on the floor and not in a bed.

What does everyone else do for settling bub? do you have a set routine or just go with the flow?

Sorry for all the questions but I just feel like I am fubbling atm.

Bek: Olivia hates being swaddled too. She just sleeps on her tummy. Maybe you could lay her on her side a bit and cover her a little tighter to her exposed arm doesn't wake her kwim?

I am not sure about the bouncer thing. I do know they don't like babies sleeping in car seats for long periods. As in bub is asleep and you just take the seat out to keep them asleep. Something to do with the angle . I guess its the same with a bouncer. My son jacob used to sleep in his bouncer or swing for the first few months. Day time not night.

routine. i am trying to get Olivia into a more set sleeping pattern for night. As in go down around the same time. But we usually follow her cues and just go with the flow. and going from one to 2 can be tough especially when they are so different. We had the opposite problem. We had what you are going through the first time round..

now guess what!!!!!!! She slept through OMG she slept through.. 9 till 5:30 Olivia did stir at 3:30 but didn't wake so I went back to sleep. and wow is she one happy baby this morning. but ouch my boobs lol...

I hope all you mummies have a great day. We are off to Isaac's ped appointment today for his dizzy spells/headaches. A good paed this time the one he saw when he was born..

That's a great sleep Nic - Well done Olivia!

My little Livi went to sleep about 11:30 and woke just after 6 - not bad either.

I have a question. At our last MCN app (last week) the nurse said that Livi had not put on enough weight in a fortnight (150g) and so she wanted to see her in another 2 weeks (one week from now), so I decided to record Livi's eating for a week and now I feel terrible. It seems that she is averaging 550ml-600ml over a 24 hour period instead of the 750ml-1L the formula tin says she should be eating now. She has spaced out her feeds by herself (now eats about every 5 hours instead of 4) but is only eating about 110ml-150ml at each feed still. I mean short of force feeding her, which is impossible, I don't know what to do or if it really is a big problem. We feed her when she is hungry maybe she is just not a big eater...

Hi Girls- Just poking my head in to say hello. Looks like we are having some very similar issues here to the rest of you, endless feeding/ not sleeping/ feeding etc- it is so frustrating. We have found Liam just will not sleep between about 4-9 in the evenings, he has stopped his screaming during this time, he is just more grizzly. We have him on infacol and on Brauers Colic relief and that have stopped the tears and red face screaming so it is an improvement.

I have also found that if I dont get him down for that first morning sleep (usually very soon after he gets up) the rest of the day goes down the toilet and it makes the evenings worse.

Alicia- I read your story about you c/s and the infection you got. I must say you really did go through a huge ordeal didnt you. It sounds like you have a really sweet and caring Ob. though.

We had our 6 week check up the other day, and Liam is now 5.25 kgs, he has gained 1.8 kgs since being discharged from hospital and is 1.7 kgs above birth weight. I am going to measure him today and see how much he has grown, he certainley doesnt look like a little new born anymore.

I also had a quick skim through and saw something about this thread moving too fast- I would say dont worry about it, I dont think there is too much 'general chatter' in here, even though I dont make it in here every day, I come in and catch up the best I can when I can.

Anyway Liam is sleeping, Tori is entertained for 5 seconds so I should have a shower while I can.

Nic - All the best for Issac's apt today. WOW on Olivia's long sleep!!! I am jealous.

Alicia - I wouldn't listen to the nurse. An increase is an increase. I would be concerned if she did not put on any weight or she lost weight. In regards to the amount of formula my DD1 never ever drank the amount they suggest. I think at 8 weeks she was only having 80mls per feed max every 3 hours. I don't believe in force feeding as this teaches them to eat too much later on in life. You are doing the right thing hon.

Ali - Hugs to you re Liam being unsettled. I am using Brauers colic relief and stomach calm too.

Suse - I hope Loren settle's soon too!!!

Monday is written in my diary Lauren, so I will be there.

Thanks Bek. It is good to know that not all babies read the formula tin instructions :-D I have been trying not to worry about it too much because Olivia seems fine and is healthy and happy. Am more worried about having to listen to the nurse 'chat' to me about it next week. Hopefully Livi will have stacked on the weight this fortnight and I wont have to listen to it.

Rob took me into visit at my school today. The kids I taught were SO excited to meet Olivia. It was gorgeous how they all stared at her (and me) and asked really cute questions like 'What does she sound like when she cries?' and 'Can she walk yet?' We spent a lot longer there than I had planned though as the kids also wanted to fill me in on their holidays, lost teeth and new pets :-)

Alicia: I wouldn't worry too much about the nurse although i know how you feel. I have to have my Olivia reweighed in a month. I wouldn't try to get more milk into her as bek said I to believe it teaches bad food habits later on.. they are only going to eat/drink what they want and each day/week/month is different

and how cute about the kids. I bet they enjoyed seeing you heaps

    Ali:
wow liam weighs almost the same as Olivia. she is 5.5 kg. i hope Liam sorts out his little tummy soon..

lauren: Ash weighs more then Olivia what a great growing boy. hope you behaved yourself

Bek: Loren will sleep that long soon too I promise Who knows how she will sleep tonight. she went to bed at 7.. but cross fingers she stays down till at least 3-4

Wow what a looong day. We left here at 9ish and got home after 6.. The Appointment was at 12:30. We finally got seen at 1:30 and got out just after 3. The Paed is almost certain it is migraines and we have a special Tablet to give Isaac when one hits as well a good dose of panadol and we see her again in 4 months... Olivia was so great. she slept and fed and smiled and pooed and spewed and she travelled so well in the car.. Absolutly hates it when the car stops though lol.. If she is cranky at all and we stop at lights or a stop sign she starts screaming till the car moves again I usually start rocking the car seat before we stop and that tricks her enough..

    Hi
Trish - Vicky was 2.86kgs at birth (38 weeks) and yes she is still small mind you her brother was 6 weeks prem. 2.5kgs and he is now following the growth curve to be over 6ft and he was slow at putting on weight in the first 4-6 weeks.
To all out there with unsettled "windy" babies - hugs hugs hugs - we have just got thru that and after 2 weeks of crying/screaming, no sleep (me or DD), feeding every hour or less i was a real cranky pants, but i have kept counting down to the 6 week mark and what do u know - DD is sleeping 11pm - 5am last 5 nights and the evenings are almost completely quiet and she now wants to have play times - god love her.
Also my 2yr DS has starting to show very serious interest in being BF - unfortunately i gave up on BF with him @ 2 mths - not enough info/support - has anyone else experienced this & thoughts on it would be welcome - im not bothered if he wants to but am concern it might be regressing for him?????????
    Cheers

Morgan - I don't think giving DS a feed would be regressing, it's a natural thing for him to do and be curious about. You may find if you let him have a feed he might not really want it.. or he may think it's great and you can tandem feed them! hehe.

OMG - I'm falling asleep in front of this post! LMAO. Will probably be back tomorrow girls. Night!

Bek, my little girl sleeps in her bouncer through the day and she loves it. She's very settled in it actually. She won't go down in her cot.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this or have experienced their little ones in a bouncer to sleep through the day?

    Hope you are all well.

Bindy - I figure if your baby sleeps well somewhere not in the cot so be it, you have to do what works for you and the baby. Sofia sleeps in a hammock during the day and cosleeps at night and that suits me fine, I love breastfeeding but not actually getting out of bed at night so I feed in bed.

Girls...sounds great. You know, being a first time Mum and all, just good to know what others think too!

I co-sleep with Madeleine too, it works for us ATM but I eventually want her in the cot, let's just hope she doesn't put a fight up with regards to that issue

I have Sofia's cot sidecar to the bed bolted on so there is no give between the mattresses.

I don't enjoy co-sleeping.. We do it from time to time.. usually after 3-4am feed when I am so super tired.. I just worry I am going to squish her or something. I wake up often thinking I have squished her...

And bindy ask away.. Some of us are old hands at it.. (although I sometimes don't have a bl!!dy clue what i am doing )
