Jacki- I too are scared to go out. We have to go to the hospital on Monday for an appointment and I really dont want to go. Well done on 4 hours sleep. It certainly makes a difference. With the wedding I dont think I could do it personally especially if I couldnt not get away plus I am not too comfortable with the bf yet... that really doesnt help!

    Hi girls,

Haven't logged on for a while due to a short hospital stay. Jasper was still vomiting a fair bit and had not gained enough weight, so the paed wanted us under observation for a couple of nights. He figured it was due to my milk supply not being enough and put me on Motilium. This seems to work and we are back home after a weight gain of 80 g in one night yesterday. Hopefully this will keep working, otherwise we'll have to switch to formula.

Jacki - I hear you on the anxiety with the trips to town! lucky DP had two weeks of work, so we tried to tackle them together. So far we managed a short trip to town; up and down the main street, the shopping in the supermarket and appr. 3 doctors visits... So far so good, no tantrums and no vomiting. We also went to a BBQ at a friends place, but he didn't want to settle after a feed, so we went home early. We also have a wedding coming up this saturday and I don't know yet how we'll manage as DP is singer in the band and won't be around to help....But I'm sure that in a couple of weeks time we'll be all confident!

On feeding routines; I feed Jasper on demand, especially now he's got trouble putting on weight. He calls every 3 hours, sometimes 4, and has a wakeful period of about 3 hrs a day (anywhere in the day/night) when he drinks every 1.5-2 hrs. He's only on the breast for about 7-10 minutes at a time though, and doesn't want the second breast... so we'll have to keep an eye on his weight gain. The community health nurse will be coming over this arvo, so we'll see.

Sorry about the long post, but there's so much to learn and talk about!

jen - when she is unsettled I try first a cuddle, then walking around and rocking her, a few little exercises the midwives taught me to help get rid of gas, I will try the rocking chair and if all else fails, I will feed her again! I am still not sure what the problem is a lot of the time, but I know she gets a lot of gas so that is most likely the problem. It takes a while to work out these little people!

Jacki - woo hoo on a four hour sleep! Sleep makes such a difference to your overall mood, hey.

I am finding going out a bit daunting still. We managed to get to the drs yesterday which was fine and we have visited the families a couple of times. I haven't been to the shops on my own yet because DH has been around enough, but will brave that soon. As for a wedding, not sure if I could handle that! I am also a bit shy to bf in public, as sometimes it takes a while to get her on properly, or she pulls herself off a few times, exposing me to everyone! So far I have only been around friends and family, so it has been ok.

Esme - glad to hear little Jasper put on so much weight in one night - that's impressive!

We were doing pretty well with a four hour routine once we got home from the hosp, but now we seem to be going backwards! Now we can barely make three hours, and sometimes only two! She also gets confused between day and night and sometimes will go back to sleep straight after a day time feed and then wants to play after a night time feed! So annoying!

Hi girls, just saying hello and welcoming myself to the group!
Bub was born 2 weeks early on Valentine's Day.
Will be posting more, having a hard time dealing with lack of feeding, sore nipples, making bf very hard, constant expressing and sterilising bottles.

Prama I can sympathise with you. Being a new mum is hard. Nothing can prepare you for it. Sounds like you have a great supporting DH. Dont beat yourself up over the BF. Things do get better apparently.....

Bun - Jasper has got the same problem; wind. Very frustrating. He can go alright for a day or so, and then he'll have a day that's nothing but crying and throwing up his feed because he tries so hard to get the wind out. So far whatever I try to do; rocking, massaging, patting his bottom, holding him in different positions hasn't helped. Did they show you any other techniques in hospi? Last night we were up from about 12 till 4 with wind and throwing up; the washing machine is doing overtime...

Prama - congratulations on the arrival of your little one. The breastfeeding does get easier. They let me spent an extra day in hospital to get some more help with attaching and massaging lumps out of very sore engorged breasts, and that was worth it; it is so much easier now so hang in there it will get better!!

Hi Prama - glad you found the group. Big congratulations on the arrival of your little one. I was reading in the other thread of the problems you have faced already. Its just so hard isn't it. Nothing could have prepared us for all for this !! Hope things are getting a little easier. Like Jen said it apparently gets easier - that's what everyone keeps saying.

BTW - just posted Marie (Mummyof2tobe) birth notice !!!

Went to child health centre today - DS has put on just over 300gms since coming home. Makes me feel quite relieved and all those lost hours of sleep rocking, patting, feeding, burbing etc etc are paying off. Nurse thinks he might be getting more than his fair share of milk which makes him a bit hiccuppy and whine when he gets put down so am going to trial just offering him one breast per feed and see how that goes - unless he is ravenous of course !

Hope we are all well. Can't believe Luke is 16 days old aready. I remember when I didn't think we could make it to the end of the first week.

    Hi Everyone!!

Just popping in quickly! I hope you dont mind if I tag along in this group now!!

DS was born on the 20th Feb (6 days early), we have called him Noah. We are breastfeeding, although not very successfully yet, but I feel that we are getting there. Nips are a bit cracked and sore from his original poor latchment so its still a bit painful, but not as bad as what it was!!

We have been home since Thursday, I only stayed overnight as I had a horrible time when DD was born and was in for 5 nights, I hated it and couldnt bare to go through all that again. My mum is staying with us for another 3 weeks so she will be a great help! The Childcare nurse will be back on Monday to weigh Noah, so hopefully he has put on the weight that he lost in the hospital, he was born 4090g and we left when he was 3880g..so fingers crossed the bf is working!!!

I am hearing you all on the lack of sleep and not to keen yet to venture out of the house..lol...

My poor girl has not slept for more than 20 minutes today. We had visitors over with 2 loud kids all afternoon and evening. Now she is SO tired we cannot get her off to sleep. If it continues I am going to ring the maternal health line to see what they suggest. I am worried she isnt sleeping enough.

    Almost over it

Sorry girls, I have been too busy worrying about my little guy. The woman I was shairing the hospital room with had a cold, which she gave to DS and I. The poor little fella was only around 1 1/2 weeks old at the time we caught it. All is good now.

I have just tried Dr Brown's bottles. They have been great, no vomiting or choking when feeding. They are a bit hard to clean, but really worth the effort. Google it and take a look.

Sorry guys, I will do personals later when I have time.

    Take care

    Hi girls,

    Have a couple of questions:

What detergent do you use to wash bub's clothes? we used Lux Soap Flakes but it's making his clothes very dull.

what's teh best way to loose your tummy?

Prama - looking forward to joining you this week (i'm now 2 days over) i use OMO Sensitive. Initially i did an extra rinse and no fabric conditioner with DD for the first few months as my DH & I both have eczema so we were being careful with her skin too. Hanging the clothes out in the sunshine has a brightening and sanitising effect too.

Carley - i'm just by the Elgin pub so we're only a 5 mins walk apart! it'd be great to meet up with you when my bubba decides to join us (i'm 40+2 days now)

    Hi everyone else!

Roquen, the countdown is on now !!!!!

Prama, we use Amolin Liquid for bubs clothes, it comes in a blue bottle...I havent had any dramas with it. We used it for DD and the smell of the clean clothes brings back so many memories!!! Dont worry about missing my birth announcement...lol..I have been following your bf issues in the other thread, I hope you are doing okay today! I have no advice on losing the belly, so will be watching for replies!

2 please, so sorry to hear that you and bub both had a cold, it must have been very frustrating for you!

Jenjams, how did you go with your little girl? Did she end up getting to sleep last night??

Carley, awww sorry to hear about Lysanders upset belly! That must have been nice to pop over to your mums for her help! I agree with you about DH's confidence with the 2nd baby, my DH is a totally different person with DS as to what he was with DD, its great!! Bummer too that you werent able to find the sizes you wanted when you went shopping! I hate that...hopefully you'll find what you were after soon!!

Everything is okay here, DS is feeding roughly every 3 hours, it was great last night as I actually had some sleep and I wasnt waking up every hour wondering why he hadnt woken for a feed..lol.. today its been the same, 3 hourly. He seems a lot brighter too at the moment, his skin is less red and blotchy and he is looking around a lot more too. He was a smidge jaundicey on Thursday when the health nurse was here, so hopefully she sees an improvement in him! Fingers crossed!!

Hope you are all enjoying your weekend!!
