Nic, it's a sun hat and then a bit of shadow on the sand! The hat is a khaki greeny colour and has a drawstring around the crown. He was playing with the sand and shovelling it into his mouth, so that's why all I could get was a bum shot! It was taken at the beach in Orewa, NZ, and the tide was out, leaving pools in the dunes
