Catherine, unfair dismissal means that they may have to reinstate him (although sometimes that is not in his best interest if they are ar$eholes) or pay him out for a period of time.
I would be making sure that the pay issue is sorted out and if he has been asked to leave and not come back, they have to pay him for a period of time (it depends on how long he has been working there.) or allow him to work this time
If he has the union involved though, hopefully they will sort it for him.
Unfair dissmissal also means that he may need to take the case to VCAT.
