Well the night was better than I expected. She woke at 10:30 had her bottle only drank half then smiled at me and settled herself back to sleep, slept til 1:30 then crying crying, did a poo changed her then offered rest of the bottle, then I tried settling again, easier knowing she is clean and got milk in her tummy. Think she got to sleep just after 2:30 woke at 5:30, settled by 6:15 and woke at 7:15 for bottle. We chatted in bed for awhile then she went off to sleep again on her own and is still asleep! I went back to sleep too, got up at 10 and Df got up with Ash this morn.
So think we are on the right track, yes there is crying but I do stay with her til she settles and she is sleeping longer now instead of cat napping. So this morn I threw the dummies in the bin so not to tempt me, we have been dummy free for 28 hrs!
Only prob now is I don't know in the night if she is crying for the dummy or hunger. She used to spit out dummy and cry if she was hungry, but I guess she was having one feed a night prior I'll give her one feed still.

Det- Hope the migraine settles, they're awful, I had forgotten how bad they were til I got one last week.

Shell - That's awesome about Em going so well without the dummy. And I hope your Df apologised later for whatever he did/said that caused him to wear beer!

On the topic of sleeping at night - how many of your bubbas actually go down at 7pm and stay down until the small hours? Jacob has NEVER done this. We are lucky if he is down by 9:30pm and stays down until 1am (this has been the routine for the past month). He is always so unsettled after 7pm. Is it too early to be doing a boob, bath, book, boob, bed (or whatever) routine or is that how you've all got your kids in bed by 7pm????

kaz millie has been going down between 6.30 and 7pm since she was around 3 week old, she never really wakes before midnight, at the moment its anywhere from 2-5am before she wants a feed. id just stick with what your doing and as he gets older, just put him to bed 5 mins earlier each night

ETA millie's just gone to sleep for the first time completely unwrapped!!!

Yay on the dummy loss Shell!

Kaz - I have been doing the bedtime routine from 6 weeks and Miss J goes down between 6.30-7.30. She has started waking for a quick feed about 10pm and then through to 3am and then 7.30am most nights. She got mucked up a bit with her teeth though so we are just getting back on track.

Our routine is naked, massage & tummy time around 5.30pm, bath at about 6pm, dressed and wrapped ready for feed at about 6.30 and then feed for however long it takes. Put to bed.

thanks girls. we haven't really followed a routine by the clock - we've been trying to follow Jacob's I'm thinking it might be time to start trying a clock based routine (that's a bit flexible too obviously).

He is usually awake around 7-8pm (or whenever we're trying to have dinner) but then takes a while to go down and usually its only for 40mins and then he is up and wanting to feed again. He has a couple of 40min naps in the evenings actually now that I think about it. Then he usually sleeps from about 9:30pm to 1 or 1:30am then through to around 5am. I guess its a variation of the 10, 2, 6 thing?

Ali - meant to say, thanks for the info re: sleep that you posted.

Can't complain about the night sleep here...bed around 7pm... but day sleeps are proving a little interesting...30 mins here and there...doing the 'eat play sleep'...just!?@! I guess we just hang on for the ride

Kaz - Our night routine is a little later than the others, L usually setttles down for the night at around 8.30-9ish as I find he cluster feeds still until then, He usually goes down around 6ish and wakes at 7.30 for a feed, this is when we do the bed,bath/massage,boob routine..I find it works well for us too coz then we get to spend some one on one time with him as DD is in bed at 7.30pm and no longer has a day sleep.

He will then wake around 12ish for a feed or sometimes when we are having a really good night will do a 6 hour block then until around 2.30am...he wakes 4 hourly after that and gets up around 7.30am. During the day he had a routine of feed/play/ sleep and usually does 1.5 to 2 hour sleeps but does do the occasional 40mins when we are out and about..

He is great dring the day so I shouldn't complain about the night too much...but DD was sleeping through at this age so I'm waiting for him to satrt!!!

Shell- Yay on the dummy!!! I might consider doing the same thing coz L only has it during the day, his not interested in it at night. Prefers the boob to go to sleep.

AJP- Hope the unwrapping goes well, we have success sometimes but not often.

Det- woot on the 8 hour sleep, there is hope out there for me yet!!! Pity about the migrain though!!!

Meg- Sounds like your DH could give some of the others some tips!!! Do you hire him out for demostrations????

    Hi to everyone else.....

Kaz- We go by the clock but its flexible. This is Ash's routine
Between 7 and 7:30am- wakes up, feeds and plays on my bed while I watch a bit of Sunrise and play and talk to her as I wake up.
9am (on the dot)- wrapped and back into her cot for a 1 hour sleep (if we arent going anywhere can be 1.5-2hrs)
10:30am- feeds then we are off doing something
12pm- Sleeps normally in the pram or my arms if we are out (45min -1hour) This is her flexible nap.
2pm- feed and back in her cot (I make sure I am home for this one as she needs it or she is grumpy). Sleeps until 4:30-5pm (3hour nap)
    5pm- feed
5:15pm- playtime in the jolly jumper as it wears her out.
5:45pm- bathtime - very deep, warm, relaxing
6:15pm- dressed, sing songs while I am getting her ready for bed sometimes a book.
    6:30pm- feed
    7pm- Sound asleep (self settles)

Most days this is exactly what she does and I didnt get her into this routine, she got me into it. I just started to look for patterns and noticed where they were and it is working although even though she goes down at 6:30-7pm she only sleeps until 12ish then we feed every 2.5-3hours.

    Hope that helps.

Jols- I put Ash down unwrapped the other day as she fell asleep in my arms and I tucked the blankets in really tight around her body and she slept but only for 45min. Did you manage to avoid the conjunctivitis?
Shell- Well done hun, one night down and probably the toughest night at that.
Det- I cant believe you got a migraine from too much sleep! You poor thing hope it went away quickly. I cant believe your little man slept that much!!! Do you think its the solids?
Raver- I hope your move goes well. Going to miss you over the next couple of weeks

    to everyone else.

Not much to report here. Ash was a bit of a grizzly bear today! Had her bear ears hat on and her grizzly mood so was quite fitting. Think she was tired though as we were so busy today she didnt get her full sleeps. Had a lovbely chanmpagne BBQ brunch today and then a sunny day by the harbour for cricket this arvo.

Oh gosh I am so incredibly jealous of all the sleep routines! No fair!

L has no routine whatsoever...bedtime? What bedtime?!?! No such thing as blocks here. He goes to bed at anytime and if I'm lucky will sleep for 30-45minutes during the day. In fact today he slept for half an hour around 1pm and then slept for 45 minutes at around 4:30pm - that's a good day! I am really running out of things to do with him during the day because he just won't sleep. I literally carry him around and hardly get anything done. He will just cry when I put him down. He won't self settle either, not even patted to sleep, I have to feed him to sleep At night I wouldn't have a clue about his sleeps because I have now resorted to having him right next to me on the boob so he is basically just sucking all night and pacifying himself (too bad he doesn't know how to use a dummy!). Keep in mind, I often have to open up his nose just so he can breathe, so I have to have him next to me anyway. He wakes up quite often for nappy changes and for me to swap sides for him to suck on (God knows what this is doing to my supply). ARGHHHHHH help me!!! I figure that once his nose/breathing thing is sorted out then I will try and implement a routine, because it is too hard at the moment.

Sorry, had to vent, I hate to admit it but I get a bit upset reading about all your bubba's routines - I wish we had one

On a lighter note, saints won

Gotta get L's medicine ready, hopefully he's sleep soon and I can come back for personals! xox

Well the best thing of dummy free Emily is day sleeps have gone from 40mins to 1.5hrs! Woohoo, still little while to settle but getting there she has a little comfort bunny.

Kaz- Emily was similar, waking often til her 10ish feed then having a few hours sleep after that, I'm hoping now that will change, I just try resettle, make Df take turns with me to go up and settle. We have bedtime routine too and try have her down by 7 every night.

Ali- That champagne brunch sounds great, we need some nice sun here to do something nice like that, sounds so relaxing.

Pinny- we are the opposite, Ash didn't sleep thru til she was 1 so any time before then would be great for us.

So excited watching the footy today! GO SAINTS! Lol, like a preview to the grand final with hopefully the same outcome. Had friends over watching, we're all yelling at the tv.

Holly- snap, we posted same time, yay you being a saints supporter too!
Is the medicine helping L? Maybe once all that is sorted and his breathing is ok you might look into sleep school or something? Sounds so hard at the moment, has the nurse come to assess his oxygen levels yet?

    dont stress
we dont have a set routine at all for boof- he just leads and sleeps when he needs to and it has always worked out that he has a big block at nite.
mind you, i do notice that he does get tired around the same times of the day, so i tend to be more aware of his tired cues at those times.

saying that boof pretty much has to work around the routines and lives of the older ones. The poor poss sometimes gets woken everytime he goes to sleep, if I have to go out with the twins. He certainly has learnt just to go to sleep whereever.

I had a really set thing happening with the twins- i had to as they had to be fed around the clock every three hours for the first 6 months of their lives- and they didint sleep through the nite until they were 3 years old!!! Where as boof has no routine and he has allready slept quite a few nites through! So go figure- its whatever works for the babe and for mum!!!

boof been really unsettled today- firs time ever!
hmm dunno what is up with him not a happy camper at all today!
Ok he is awake again and sitting next to me watching me type - too cute

better go my boy needs me!

Shell - I am glad your first dummy free day went well. Keep us posted on how it goes.

Holly- You sound liek you ahve it tough. Hang in there. It will improve.

Kaz- E generally goes to bed at about 8 - 8:30, as I put J to bed first then feed her. Quite often she will feed to sleep, but will self settle also. Usually she goes through till anywhere between 3am to 7am. (but more often 3am) If she wakes before this, I will resettle. If she feeds before 4am, she will then sleep till about 8am, If she goes throug till 7am ish, she will then sleep till 10am. During the day I ahve no set bedtimes, but try not to let her havea sleep that runs later than 6pm or else she doesn't want to go to bed. During the day she wil do anywhere from 45 mins to 2 hours.

AJP - Hoping the unwrapping works soon. e never really liked wrapping. I was lucky there.

    OK gotta run
