we had a big talk about the job again last night - as much as having work again would be fantastic financially, it's just not valid with where we are with our lives at the moment. he's ringing about another general haulage job today - he hasn't driven a flatbed trailer much, but he's a quick learner...

E has gone back to sleeping through. i think i've decided she has Monday-itis! Sunday and Monday nights aren't great, the rest of the week is fine! i think it's the anticipation of the crummy day, and then the actual crummy day! lol

Crap night for us - Baileys digestive system seems to be getting used to coping with solids so he woke himself up about 1030 to poo and took 1.5 hours to go back to sleep, he had a feed mid morning and woke about 615. I took him to the Dr today as was a bit worried about the poo (he is poo-ing much more solid - little soft pellets that his butt cheeks squash into these little pancakes and seems to be really straining to get them out - but they are pretty soft. Dr said its normal and his body is just adjusting to solids - Hmmmmmm He's done about 5 of these since he woke this morning. I've given him a little cooled boiled water to ensure he is hydrated and doesn't end up with hard little poo's. Must seek some advice in the Solids forums. Having said that I think it may be the thrush thats actually bothering him.....

However the same stupid Dr then asked me how long I was BF for and I said I'd BF at least until I go back to work - he then told me that BF after 12 months is a waste of time anyway - this really really ****ed me off. I'd rather BF Bailey than use the toddler formula that is marketted (I'll just use cows milk after 12 months anyway), but seriously, how is something that nature makes a mother create to nourish her child a waste of time after 12 months? Still seething!! Cant believe he is giving out that advice! Luckily I am educated enough to ignore him but can just imagine another young mother giving up on that advice. He's not my normal GP, I had to go in as Baileys thrush is back (again) so I needed to be treated as well as I think we are just passing it back and forth.

Aggggggh, enough of a vent for me, I am tired and angry this morning

On a happier note - Bailey is 5 months old today - far out, where did the time go?

Naomi- Sorry to hear Bailey has thrush. Poor little mite. Have u thought about giving him some baby yoghurt? Poo to the Doctor and what they said today. If u can feed for longer than 12 months, and Bailey is happy, ur happy, and he is still growing, then I dont see why u shouldnt BF him til then.

AFU, Logan rolled over today without any help. He is also having his first night in his cot tonight, so Im a little bit sad.

Vic: Oh, I'm glad you got a good price for the ergo! I'm not getting one. We really need to cut back atm, and talking about the macpac and bb, I felt bad that I wanted another carrier... feels a bit greedy, LOL!
I have no suggestions - the longest trip we've done with a baby is 3 hours. I've seen other people post that if you can get a bassinette it is brilliant because babies get heavy in your arms after a while. Hopefully CJ will sleep well and you won't have to worry about what to do with her during the flight
BG: I'm sorry that your DH has had to turn down a job. That sucks. But something more suitable will turn up. I wouldn't be able to deal with only seeing DH once a month either, so can totally understand why you'd decide against! Hope his lead from today has been positive?
Naomi: Sorry about Bailey's sore mouth Are your boobs sore? I've heard that daktarin is also a good treatment (particularly for you). Also, if you find he is a little constipated (even after he has started bf properly again) I've heard banana can get them a little bunged up if they have too much. I was told to stick with a small amount of that. And sometimes apple can be problematic as well if their tummies are sensitive to the acidity.
IRT the sleeping bag, I don't have proper gro bags, but I'd personally go for the lightest weight one. It's like you say, you can always add layers. Some nights in summer here are really warm to start off with and then get a little cooler in the early morning. I bought a couple of really thin sleeping bags (just like light t-shirt material) for summers when Natty was a baby, only because the wraps would come off and she'd wake around 4am cold.
Bridg: Awwww @ first night in the cot! Will he still be rooming in with you? P still isn't rolling over consistently (has done it a couple of times tummy to back but I think they were accidents, LOL! and she certainly gave herself a surprise when she did it ) but she moves around a lot on the floor. Just before I had her under the baby gym in her room next to the cot while I was getting Natty's dinner ready and by the time I got back she had her head under the cot and the side of the gym in a leg lock, LOL! But she is overtired, so is particularly squirmy tonight.
Bella: Again, I am sorry about the frequent waking overnight. It is rough. Does J sleep with you? (Hopefully it is ok to joke about it... but... at least you can talk about it at your ABA meetings now and meet your sister's approval, LOL! )

We have had a couple of interesting days - enjoyed catching up with a couple of my relatives down from QLD. We are out with them again tomorrow. Natty has been a real challenge though. DH got a taste of it this afternoon and I kept wanting to step in because I thought he was going to lose it with her. But he kept control, so yay DH. We also had a chat about it - he was worried about her not being normal because of how worked up she gets. I told him that it's not uncommon for a kid to make themself throw up mid-tanty. At least DD doesn't do that. The only mess to clean up afterwards is spit and snot.
Phoebe has been unsettled with all the activity too, lots of people wanting to hold her etc. She really likes her space - I guess she is used to having to entertain herself for regular periods throughout the day when I'm helping Natty with something. And so when she's getting held all day she kind of gets shirty! Otherwise, she's been pretty happy. And still sleeping pretty well (waking once or twice a night). She's also worked out how to go to bed earlier which is a relief for me. She finds it hard to sleep after 4pm in the afternoons now, so by 7pm she is knackered and usually falls asleep on the boob some time between 7:30 and 8:30. Works for me cause I'm usually even more cranky when I wake up in the morning if I've had a late night I think I'm neither a morning person nor a night owl. PMSL!

Amy - I got some daktarin gel for me too, I was worried about Bailey digesting it then the pharmacist told me its an oral gel anyway - I licked my finger after I rubbed it on my nipple and it tastes nice - PMSL I didn't realise until I had a good look in his mouth how bad the thrush had come back - no wonder we had a crap night. Got a few good BF feeds in this arvo so its all good. I ran the parenting helpline re the solids and poo and they were fantastic - told me the same things as you. Potato can bung them up a bit too, and Bailey's had banana too so it looks like I needed to research my 'potential constipation' foods better as I'd given him both - DOH - at least the rest of you can learn from my mistakes!!! She suggested to keep feeding him pumpkin and give him some apricots or peaches (thought prunes might be a bit strong at this stage) so I got some in natural juice (as they are not in season) and pureed them and its done the trick almost straight away - NICE - Loving the parent helpline. So will wait till next week and give him the potato again and balance the 'potentional constipaters' a bit more hahahahahaha. I'm taking a cautious approach and only introducing a few things at once but must read up on the Baby Lead Solids approach. I'm dead keen to make sure that Bailey is a fruit and vegetable eater like me - as DH will only eat potato and mushroom which drives me batty - nothing else, his diet is terrible!!! Frankly I feel Bailey is too little at this stage to really do the BLS and me spoon feeding and choosing his diet is the way for us atm (as we need a bit more motor skill development otherwise the food will end up in his eyes, ears and nose), but once I have him established with a bit more of a variety of tastes I am keen to put a plate in front of him and see how he goes - with a bath ready straight after LOL

Vic - Thanks for the tip re sleep interruption/new foods - handy to know so I am across it if it affects the little guy

Bella - thanks for the encouragement. Ideally when I go back to work, I am kinda hoping I might still be able to do a morning and night feed - but it may not work, we'll see. I've prepared myself that we are more likely to wean but hopefully Bailey is happy to continue

Bridg - what a great idea re the yoghurt - Thankyou Good Luck with the cot tonight, what a big milestone, it took me a while to get used to Bailey in his cot (and another room), but its working pretty well. Yaaaah re the rolling - Go Logan!!

Oh Kristy - saw your post re wondering about Kysons readyness for solids - just wanted to say that I wouldn't have started if the Paed hadn't suggested it (but very glad he did), and while its definately the right thing for us and is working well and helping with sleep etc, just remember that once you start, you cant go back. Kyson could be going through the 4-5 month 'distractable' baby phase or something similar? I'm lucky that I have a wonderful Paed who's philosophies I gel with so have lots of trust in him, but ultimately only you will know whats right for Kyson........

Right, I'm off to make dinner - Baked Potato, vegies and Steak - I became addicted to Baked Spuds while Pregnant and I'm still addicted

    Hi Everyone else

Hi guys! Just about to jump into bed, but won't be on for a few days so thought I'd let you all know Allira's stats:

    at 4 months:

    7kgs (75th %)
    60cms long (25th%)
    41.4cm HC (50th%)

I thought she was going to be bigger actually. I'm surprised. I think she's stayed pretty similar the last couple of weeks.
And my MCHN today mentioned that they have changed how they do the appts now. They don't really look at what your baby is doing in line with other 4 month olds (for example) now, they just ask you 10 questions, and if you answer yes to any of them ( mainly if you have any concerns) then they do their own investigation. It's apparently in line with NSW?
I think it will put much less stress on Mum's. Won't be worrying before you hit certain appointments what you're child can/can't do, but if you have concerns, you raise them and they will help you out.

Anyway, enough from me.... Will try and pop back before the weekend, but I'm flat out tomorrow.
    xxoo
