    Wooo 1st post I win!
Currently at the local shopping centre, jade asleep in the pram...facing her away from me works wonders!!

She's still doing it at feeds (the tongue thing) but its getting less frequent, and she has plenty wet nappies so im happy, just annoying caus I end up throwing out so much formula!

Hey TM do you ever put a blanket/muslin wrap over the pram so that she cant see you? Thats what I used to do with Milo and do with Oscar as they get bored and go to sleep much easier

Dee and Rayray: same sleep pattern here. Long morning sleep, reasonable first afternoon nap and after that... anyone's guess. We then go to bed at around 9-9:30.

Currently, he is either sleeping in his swing or sleeping with me at night. He's pretty good at both so I don't feel like "training" him to do anything else. I do wonder, though, will these habits come back to bite me you-know-where.

At night, he is nursing to sleep -- does that mean he'll never learn to go to sleep by himself at night? At night, he wakes up once after 3-4 hours, and then each two and a half hours. Then, around 5-6a, we have a pooping crisis! Grunt-turn-red-grunt-can't-poop-more-grunt! I place him semi-upright on my tummy, with his back on my bent knees. (That position was a life-saver. Before I figured that out, it would take him an hour or two trying to poop. I put him semi-reclined like that and he poops within 10 minutes). Then he sleeps another two - two and a half hours. Then we're up!

I get enough sleep but this routine depends on me staying home and his swing being available. I can keep this up for a few more months but eventually he will have part-time day care... And next year, even more day-care!

I will maybe try swaddling one more time.

Paragard is copper only; mirena has hormones. I was told one could use either and that the hormone one was safe for breast-feeding. I opted for the copper anyway. I would have felt comfortable with either one if I didn't have a choice...

DS1 fed to sleep pretty much til 18 months, then when he stopped having a milk drink at night it took maybe 1-2 weeks and he was fine settling to sleep after that.

Well we were out and about today and Oscar slept an hour and 20 minutes on the way, then 40 minutes at my friends house and all the way home again.
I hope this doesnt mean we will be up all night.
    Immunisations tomorrow...

had our needles today and FINALLY got Sophia weighed - typical second child hasn't been weighed or measured since she left hospital! I thought she felt heavy - 6kg and 60cm long ... will be tall like her brother and is already having the arms-too-short-body-too-wide problem with her clothes. Hopefully she won't be too off bcos of them but have panadol at the ready - I have held off giving it to her yet but by the sounds of her won't be too far away!

Amazed - I started swaddling him asleep in the first week and he just got use to it. He hated it awake but didn't sleep well unswaddled. Then I started doing it when he was sleepy but not asleep.
And yeah it was early for him to roll, he did it 4 times in a row then he got immunised and hasnt done it since???? Dont know whats going on there, but I'm not too worried, he'll do it again when he's ready.

TMTM - so glad PND has stayed away... Things are going so well for u, must be that perfect little boy that u needed to complete ur big family!

Tatt - hope u enjoyed ur night out! hope Jade is sleeping and feeding better for u.

Hi Ray - I had something to say to u about sleep routine but forgot! Mumnesia gets worse in winter I hear! haha

Well Ethan had his needles Fri, SCREAMED the hospital down!!! lol I gave him panadol and he settled but wimpered ALL afternoon. He had a temp sat and was really unsettled, I assumed to do with immunisation, then his poo went dark green almost black... I was a little concerned... but he was still sleeping ok at night time so thought we could wait till morning. Sun it was green and stringy so I quizzed good old google, and aparently it's for bub getting too much foremilk and not enough hindmilk, which came as a surprise to me since he only has one side per feed. but he has short 10-15 min feeds more frequently, so I started doing 2-3 feeds per side yesterday and now it is going more yellowish with white curdled bits in it... So hopefully I have fixed his problem - tho creating massive sore boobs for myself!! Ah well, it will regulate, just have to express a bit. Sunday he was really clingy to me and DH, nobody could hold him with out him screaming bloody murder... so I knew he wasnt feeling 100%, tho he was ok with his brothers still. When I bathed him, the boys came in to ask a question, he got all excited then when they left the room, he screamed... lol He thought they were coming to play!

I was meant to go out Sat night to the Westrern Strikers Soccer Club Gala dinner but I'm still a little attached to my baby and couldnt part with him... lol So DH went solo with friends. I think I may not have so much separation anxiety once breastfeeding is done with...

I'm also considering the mirena, have to look it up first tho to check the risks/side effects... I only just heard about this from the doc at Ethans immunisation.

Also someone mentioned a baby with a congested nose? I use saline nose spray called little noses, it's great. makes it all runny and u can either use the sucker and suck it out or just let it run out when there's not as much of it. Just get it at the chemist.

Dee: jade had her needles today too, poor little thing was smiling at the nurse and then got jabbed and her face went bright red and she opened her mouth and you know when they cry so hard no noise comes out except for a gurgling noise? omg she was so red and sad but i told her its good for her, dont think she cared but it made me feel better
she was very grumpy for a couple hours, she was due for a nap when i took her for her shots so that stuffed things up even more, just got her off to sleep now after a good feed and a huge poo (she only goes every 2 or 3 days so that wouldve added to her grumpy mood!)

since last week shes been waking for a feed about 3 or 4am so im guessing a growth spurt, but she sleeps well apart from that (went straight to sleep after bottle at 9pm, slept til 3am, went back after her bottle til 830am, so i cant really complain.

something i CAN complain about is XP, he is being a real pr.ck!!!! says he wants jade one night a week but i just dont trust him...my social worker is seeing me every week and we are mulling over the decision of whether or not to put a VRO on him. and he was putting $30 a week into jades account (not much i know but it was enough to cover formula and nappies) and now hes not putting any in, he says he has no money (even though im still paying all the utilities bills even though im not living there anymore!) fk i hate him so much!!!!

Dee - Poor little Ethan! I'm certainly not glad for sore boobs, but glad that Ethan is feeling a little better.

TMTM - I'm pleased to hear that you are feeling strong!

TM - Oooh, I'd be scared about letting Jade stay with XP......hope you work out what is best!

    Nelly - She's a big girl! WOW!

Amazed - We get the morning poop too - although Reuben never strains, he is the king of wind, and just farts away all - it's normally more wind than poo actually - but his daddy is really impressed!

Rayray - hope the immunisations went smoothly!

AFM - Reuben is still sleeping through the night nicely - a bit of grumbling and snorting from about 4am, but it generally doesn't result in a wake up.

I was really excited to discover that the Tommee Tippee 'Close to Nature' bottles are BPA free! I really like Tommee Tippee - and have used it for my previous babies, but really wanted BPA free bottles, and was sad to see that the TT ones didn't have BPA freed on the boxes. But, I bought one anyway, and upon opening, I recognised the telltale signs of BPA free bottles....so a google search later, I found out that they are indeed BPA free! Rejoice!

I am about to go back to work (which is stressing me OUT).....but DH has said that he can bring Reuben in each lunchtime for the first week, and then assess from there. He really is a great bloke! I was working at a private function on the weekend, which was my first period of time away from Reuben, and DH drove me to the function, dropped me off, drove home, played with Reuben, fed Reuben and then drove back to pick me up......this is with our other 3 children too!.....and the gig was 30 minutes away from home. What a champion! And further, Reuben took the bottle like a pro! I have been expressing EBM each morning since he has been sleeping through, so I have an oversupply of frozen EBM.....not that there is any such thing as having too much! lol!

Just come home from seeing Ice Age 3 at the movies as a family.....Reuben absolutely loved watching the big screen, and fed the rest of the time before falling asleep in my arms.

    GTG - Reuben is calling!

BK - I dont know how u can go back to work so soon... I'm milking it for all it's worth! haha But I can't bare to be away from Ethan even for a few hours, I think I would cry if I had to be away from him for a day... Sounds like u have a great husband tho and everything is under control... Make such a difference!

Tatt - Poor lil Jade, I hate it when they cry like that, u know it's not put on when they do that...
As for XP, I'm sure u wouldnt have to let him have Jade at this age if u weren't comfortable with the idea. A friend was telling me that her cousin is going thru a divorce and their baby is 18mths old and apparently law states that the child reside with the mother full time till age 5. (things have changed since I went thru the custody ring - back then it was all 'fair go for the dad' and all that, but it's different now I've heard)
Have u contacted child support? U really should. I think I told u my story in private before, my advice - Ring child support BEFORE he has any contact with Jade. Ur XP may be completely different to mine but, if it were me, I wouldnt be taking any chances...
He should be paying u and there is no way u should be responsible for any utilities in a house u dont live in, I did that too... Get all the bills changed into his name, I got ripped off hard doing the same thing too... Dont give in, they just take advantage!!
Ur a strong person and I admire u, Just look after yourself and Jade, dont worry about anyone else! Ur too nice...

TM I would get an AVO/VRO if it was me, I would not be comfortable with him having Jade overnight either if it was me.

Dee, maybe custody issues are state gverened? Im not sure but I do remember something in the paper recently where they were letting fathers have joint custody of babies under 12 months old.

I would be ringing the utility companies and telling them you no lnger live there and dont want the bills in your name. They should know what to do - if he wont change them to his name then they get disconnected.

hi all, hope ur getting some sleep, jades doing alright, growth spurt over i assume and is back to her 1030-5am sleeps.
got her weighed and checked today, she was born 51cm and is now 57cm, heads gone from 36cm to 40cm, and shes put on 600 grams in 3 weeks so im very happy!! also might be just random movements but i reckon shes figuring out her hands, she whacks the toys on her playmat and grabs them and seems to look at her hands like "is that me grabbing it?" LOL

shes very dependent on her dummy for day sleeps which sucks caus every 40 mins or so (im guessing each sleep cycle) it falls out n she cries n i have to replace it , but the night sleep shes so tired she doesnt need it which is great!

JwithJ, hi Thomas was rolling over at five weeks or so but then stopped because he got so fat LOL. Babies do things at such wildly different rates. You might find your bubba rolls early but other things happen later. Thomas is getting a bit late for learning how to use his hands, for instance, but is extremely chatty for such a wee bub. But welcome, regardless! Tom is a bit older than most babies in this group, but I started off with these lovely ladies before my due date was changed.

TM, I wouldn't be letting Jade stay overnight with your dp. She's too little to be away from her mummy over night, imo. It would be different if he were caring for her regularly. He'd be hard pressed to get an order for overnight contact at this stage. However, because he is her father, if you don't have an agreement in place regarding contact, if he comes and takes her, there's not much you can do about it until you go to court and get an emergency order made. My advice to newly separated couples, regardless of the age of the baby is, get a formal agreement asap. You can always bring up his dope use if he gets difficult over it. And definitely look into child support. The CSA will do everything for you.

Rayray, happy birthday to Milo (was it his birthday???). Glad the traveling went well.

BK, good luck with going back to work. What a heart wrenching thing for you to do! I'm sure you'll all adjust admirably though. I had a job offer last week that I can do from home but means starting straight away, rather than enjoying my maternity leave. It's such a good opportunity, though, I don't know if I can turn it down or not!! At least i wouldn't have to leave Tom, though. I went back to work when Clare was four months old and I hated it. It didn't do her any harm though

Dee, did Ethan have the rotavirus vaccination? That can give them a nasty upset tummy as well. I'm sorry he had a hard time with his shots. Good luck with the Mirena. I've heard mixed reports of it. My sister ended up getting hers removed as she couldn't stand it.

Nelly, Clare went to two MCHN appointments when she was a baby... and that was it!! She never went back!! <- bad mummy. Glad Sophia's doing well

Amazed, I wouldn't worry about the nursing to sleep. When he's older, he'll get over it. I mean, he'll wean one day, regardless

I'm getting fed up with sleeplessness. I think we're getting somewhere and then bang, there's another night where I'm up three times and I'm a zombie all the next day. Weekends are particularly hard when it's difficult to have a sleep in the afternoon with the herd of fairy elephants stomping up and down the hallway. I have a constant headache now from just not sleeping. Lucky he's so cute.

Otherwise, I'm enjoying him a lot. He has sort of found his hands now. I love how babies stare at their hands like they're stoned... He doesn't like tummy time much other than when he's having his massage, which I think is a result of the reflux. He's having Gaviscon three times a day and i *think* it is helping. He's certainly happier when he's awake, and he is a right chatterbox like Clare. Some days it is hard to get him to have a good feed because he just wants to chat. He keeps saying "A-gaaaa", and one day I'll figure out what it means... I got him to coo down the phone to my sister today which was sweet. He laughs if you tickle him but otherwise you just get the big lovely gummy grins.

Dh and I are having our whooping cough shots tomorrow. Sigh. Sore backside, here I come.

This week all the other kids have been vile, even my perfect star child Isobel, who decided to use 3/4 of the bottle of baby shampoo that we bought just that day to have a super luxurious bubble bath.

    hi all

tmtm - I don't know how you manage to keep up with all of the persies! You girls that do it I take my hat off to you! I struggle to read the posts let alone remember and reply to everyone.

Sophia sounds like wee Tom in the sleep well one night & have two up and down nights, repeat, repeat. The nights she sleeps well I wake up and feel like a zombie the next day and the nights she does wake I struggle to even open my eyes to get up to her and of course feel like a zombie the next day! Thanks goodness her bassinet is on DH side and he gets up and passes her to me. To top it all off hurt my back again on Monday - two Mondays in a row. It just happens to coincide with the fact that I have been actually cleaning the house properly on a Monday - so have told DH my body is telling me housework is not good for it!

BK hope work is ok for you - is DH still bringing Reuben up to feed?

Tatt you sound like you are doing do well on your own make sure you give yourself a pat on the back. Jade has the most amazing shock of hair and her eyes are amazing! She reminds me of a little pixie.

Oscar big hugs hun. Make sure you call out if you need time out to rest during the day.

We have had 2 kids with ear infections and Jake has had a chest infection so life has been fun, plus DH was away late last week for conference for 2 night when the kids were at their sickest. Let's say I was not impressed when he came home and complained of a hangover and wanted to sleep all weekend. THEN to top it off was going to waltz off to the gym Sunday afternoon and so ensued the age old discussion we go over and over about mummy down time.... apparently I can "go to the shops anytime" aaaaaaaaarrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhhh... going to the shops is not my idea of downtime especially with a baby and a 2 yr old. It has taken me a while to my cranky pants off ... he is a great husband father partner and friend and I am really lucky but this is one thing that pops up every now and then that rubs me the wrong way.
