Ichy but don't think it's thrush

Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem post-birth. It's been 9 months since I had my baby and ever since, I've had a problem with feeling ichy and a bit sore 'down there'. I don't think it's thrush (though I haven't had it before so aren't 100% sure) because I don't have any unusual discharge and it's not my vagina specifically that's ichy, it's the whole area! I actually think that maybe I'm not producing as much mucous as I did before giving birth as everything seems a bit dry in general. So I'm thinking it's this 'dryness' that's really the problem. Is this normal?
I've even tried a bit of nappy rash cream down there and I think it has helped a bit. Any suggestions on what I could use to ease the problem?

It could be that things are dry, are you breastfeeding?
I would probably suggest you discuss it with your GP or GYN

Yes I am still breastfeeding - does that make a difference?
I know I should check with my doctor - it's just that the doctor's 2.5hrs away so I've been putting off going.

Have you changed washing powder or soaps? maybe you have become sensitive to them? maybe try using a low allergy washing powder and a sent free soap....

Yes breastfeeding can make things pretty dry down there.

Do you have a local chemist? Maybe even chat with your Pharmisit. Thrush usually has a prettty obvious discharge.

Is is just itchy or stingy burning as well?

    Thumbs up

I found out whilst pregnant with my 1st bub that Thrush doesn't always have a discharge which I was surprised to find out from my GP, Midwives, OB & local Pharmist

Thrush can be itchy & also burning (a bit red & swollen too) ... So, get yourself down to the chemist shop & get some CANESTEN cream (for thrush) ... It will help heaps

    Hi
I had something like that too, it was horrible, i was breastfeeding too. I went and got tested for thrush etc but nothing, i kinda felt like i was on fire...if that makes sense, I would go to sleep with a bottle of frozen water between my legs, went away in a few days....

Did you have an episiotomy by any chance or have alot of tearing?
I had an episiotomy and when i received my stitches, some tissue wasnt sewn properly and was left with a skin tag (flap of skin on the outside). This caused me alot of problems and until i had it removed, went through what you are describing.
If it continues, id go and get it checked out just incase.

I'd say it's thrush but maybe the beginning, I'd get it checked out just in case they can take a swab and tell for sure. Also maybe be checked for worms, unfortunetly they lurke in all the wrong places, and you can easily pick them up. My girlfriend was recently treated for them, she thought she had thrush and after two treatments went to the doctor, to find out the horrifying result of worms. She described it as a buring feeling mainly on the outside, but said they're was no itchness around her bottom!
Anyway hope this helps, please get it checked out thrush is horrible if it gets really bad!!

I'd say go get it checked out. Could be a lack of lubrication issue, could be viral, could be an infection, could be bacterial. Only one way to get a conclusive answer - get a check.

One of my girlfriends who had similar symptoms was advised to use KY Jelly. Another was told she had herpes. You've probably just got something in-between. It will save a lot of sleepless nights in between! Don't guess, just get diagnosed.

I had a similar issue for months post delivery and GP suggested hydrozole cream (available over the counter but you need to ask the pharmacist as it's not kept on display). This has an anti-fungal and a mild cortisone and worked wonders. My GP said it's common for women to have thrush after delivery so best to get that checked out. Good luck!

Thanks so much for all your thoughts. To answer your queries, no it's not a stinging feeling, more of an ichiness that becomes really sore and kind of burning. It comes and goes though, but I can't work out if it's related to anything like soap or something. I didn't tear or have an episiotomy either so I can't blame it on that (though things definately got rather battered up regardless!)
It sounds like I'd better get it checked out properly but in the meantime I'll definately try the canesten or hydrozole cream. ...So many nasties that we can end up with!!

just make sure you use the vag stuff not the oral thrush tabs you can now get as they are not good while breastfeeding but the creams you use down there are fine
