I am at work ATM so have to be quick - ditto what the others have said, plus I think it is extremely important that your husband be equally informed about these sorts of issues. Personally I had #1 with an OB, in a private hospital, on my back, but had a relatively good outcome (no forceps or c/s and no drugs other than useless gas). But it was my DH's insistence that I stay at home as long as I did during the labour that led me to be 9cm dilated before I got to hospital, so there was less scope for the OB to interfere. Also, earlier in my labour my OB suggested quite strongly that I stay at the hospital overnight - I insisted on going home and it was only because DH knew where I was coming from that we could stand firm on this.
So you need to make sure, whatever your decision in the end, that your husband knows as much as you do, otherwise it is more likely he will be the one pressuring you down an unfriendly path due to his own ill-informed fears....
