Hi, Thanks Elyse84 for your thoughts. We did ring and asked the daycare several times to find out what happend to her on that day/night . We even called from the hosptial as they needed to treat DD for her injuries. They kept asking me if she passed out ect in the end I rang the daycare center and relayed questions. I didnt stay when I collected her to ask questions as I saw her injuries and rushed her to the ER. The specalists that were treating her called the centre twice, once was the head ER Doctor asking specific questions, he came back into the room and said he got no answer. The second doctor took my phone and rang again this time she got another carer that said a differnt story. The doctors were so angry as they said the injuries were equalivant of a car accident and didnt understand how no one saw or could tell them what happened to her. After a few weeks I did talk to the director about it and said that to her that no one can tell me what happened to DD and how she sustained her injuries. She then emailed me and told me possible causes of her injuries, ie she fell off the fort, someone pushed her. This made me mad as again it was "we didnt see it". She did admit that no one saw it just noticed DD heading towards them acting funny. I aslo asked her why an ambulance was not called at all she told me that they all misjudged her injury.
In the end I know that they have changed their policy on head injuries and what to do. But in the end it was DH and myself having to deal with their mistake with DD being in hosptial and constant care and the after math of it all.
DD is great now but still not out of the woods yet

She misses her friends at the daycare but its strange that not one of her friends parents have bothered to call. We think they have been told not to call by the center, which bothers me alot. Mind you if this happend to one of DD friends I would be calling and supporting that parent through it. We have been left out in the cold by these parents whom I feel are afraid to be those friends/parents in fear that they will lose their place in the daycare. DH is more upset about the lack of support and friendship from those parents and friends of DD daycare mates than I am but its sad as we all went to the parks, bbqs and birthday parties together then nothing.
Do you think the other parents even have any idea as to what happened? I would think the daycare centre probably hasn't said anything to any of them (it's not the sort of thing that would be good for business) . . . they probably all think that you took your DD out of the centre. I think Elyse's idea of calling some of the other parents might not be a bad one.

There should have been an incident report or accident report written up about it by the child care centre. I am not too sure that this would have any more info in it than what they have told you but it might be good to try and get your hands on a written copy of the incident from their perspective. If DOCS is investigating, they have probably already requested this though.

    Hi Kartier,

I was thinking about your question about finding support groups for parents with kids that have gone through big medical stuff, and i reckon on way to find more info would be to do a quick post in the baby and toddler section entitled 'children's medical conditions and special needs' (or something similar). I am sure that there are some knowlegeable people that know how to find a good support group.

maybe even ask the counsellor when you see them. no doubt they have ways of hunting down things like this...

Kartier, that is the most horrible thing I have ever heard. It sounds to me that your DD may have fallen from a height from something straight onto her poor little face. I can't see how an almost 2 year old can move fast enough to "bump her nose" so badly that it fractures bones in her face. I really do hope that you get some justice and that that daycare centre gets what's coming to them. And I hope that your DD is back to her normal self ASAP.

As for the orginal post, I would take my child out of that daycare. What if he had choked? Would they have attended to him then? If they are to busy at that time of day they should put casual staff on to accomodate during those busy times. Daycare providers as responsible for the lives of these little ones while they are in their care and the job needs to be done appropriately - not to mention you pay them enough to do it!

    Hi,
Teagz- We think that she fell from a height as well but again we cannot prove it at all. The other parents that we have talked to, ie in the last few days have said that they cannot understand what happened to her but that they are concerned as well. It was not just a bump, what I was presented with was shocking for me and I work in the medical industry so I have seen alot of injuries and still this was such a shock to me. We are waiting to see the justice now but it will take time. DD is great, she has no memory of it at all but she understands all about injections and medicine ect very fast learner. She is not afraid of doctors now so that is good. She sees alot of them so she is happy for them to look at her and is not shy. From time to time she tells us that another child at the center pushed her but again we cannot prove it. I found out today that this child has his own carer due to his bahaviour. I was not made aware of this as a parent with a child in that same room. He has hit DD and pushed her before but nothing has been said to me about it. I am not sure if the policy states that if there is a problem child in that group then we must be told about it. DD does tell us at times that this child pushed her and she fell but we are unsure if it was this accident or something that has happened in the past but this child seems to be distructive and abusive to DD before the accident and now to other children. We have mentioned this to DOCS case manager now but I am glad she will never go back to that center again.

    Hi,
I am new to this thread. I wanted to get some advice and I guess support on what to do here. In short this is my story -
Last month I was called my my DD daycare stating that she had bumped her nose and that she was fine but not to be concerned at all about it being a bit red. I was not upset or concerned at all as they told me that she was off and playing. I went back to my work. About 30 min after the first phone call the director rang and said that DD nose was now bleeding and she was crying. I told her that it didnt make sense as she was off playing after the first phone call. The director told me that she was worse and that I needed to come and take her to the doctor to make sure her nose was not broken. I stated that I was not told that in the first phone call just that DD had bumped her nose. The director told me that she was o.k and still wanted to play outside. At this point I told them that I would come and get her. This was 40 min after the accident and two phone calls to me later. I arrived to find DD face was beyond swollen and that she couldnt see out of both eyes and her nose was quite bad. I started yelling at the carer that this was not a bump on the nose. I am not a doctor but what I was presented with when I arrived was shocking. I grapped her and ran out the door to the hosptial. She was admitted into ICU for fractures to her cheeks, eyes and nose as well as a fracture to her head. She was in hosptial for 10 days. I guess I am mad at the fact that the carers could not see what I saw when I picked her up. I thought that the carers are meant to have first aid certs and are meant to call a ambulance for this kind of injury. DOCs is now involved and its going to be a long process. Due to the daycares lack of assistance my DD is now having all sorts of medical problems as a direct result of this injury. Can any tell me their story or how they got through it? is there a on line help or support group that anyone can mention so I can see how I can get her through this. Any advice would be great - feeling quite alone in this. K

I am sorry that you are going through this.

It wasn't a centre in Penrith was it?

I had a bad experience too (not near as bad as yours) and took DD out straight away but they still tried to get me to pay them.

    Message of Thanks

    Hi everyone,
Thanks so much for just being here for us it means alot to have that support. Each day we are getting through it. But it will be awhile before we see results from DD health and the case itself. On Friday we recieved a email from the child care that DD had her accident from. It has been 2 months since the accident and its only now that they are chasing up a bill that includes the day of the accident. I am angry at this as I feel we do not owe them a thing. If we were to add up the amount of days/hours and money we have spent with DD they would owe us. DH has asked me to ignore the email sent but I want to reply and give them a bill from us to pay for the hardship and hurt over what we have had to see and do.

organicem - Can you tell me your experience at all, not that I want to compare but maybe just see that we are not alone, as we feel we are. No one , not that I am hoping at all has been through this and I am to angry to deal with the daycare, how and what do I write to them now that I have the chance. I dont feel I should pay them???

i'm so in tears and disgust as i read your post.
how can someone without a heart or conscience run a day care centre????
amongst all the carers, you;'d think someone has a conscience!!
and the other parents shouldnt keep their children there either..w hat if this happened to their child next.

im so so sorry you had to go through all this! gawd, it makes so angry just reading about how flippant they were..
are the police involved? gawd, i feel like just going there and punching their faces and so they'd know what your baby was going through..

you could write to the papers and name and shame the centre as well.
    are you in nsw?

take care, hun.. sending you and your baby lots of love and prayers.. xoxoxox

    Hi Prama,
Thanks for your comments. I can honestly say that it has been the worst experience we have gone through and continue to go through each day as DD health has not been the same. One thing I didn?t mention in my previous comments is that after DD came out of hospital she got Phenomena due to her resistance being so low. I believe that this has been the reason why she is unwell today, she is always sick and having antibiotics. Before the accident she was healthy and had never had any antibiotics? or issues with her health. Even though it has been 2 months since this accident we have now been told that she may need to undergo an operation to remove the fluid sitting behind her right ear as well as have grommets in and her adenoids? removed. When I asked about the time off that DD will need to recover the doctor said around 3 weeks with no interaction with other kids due to the infectious period. DH and I have taken around one month off, not that we are complaining at all as DD is the most important person to us but we had to take time off without pay due to the amount of time we needed to be home with DD and at the hospital. Does anyone know if this is the case with that kind of operation? The doctors said it looks like a direct result of the accident. The daycare do not realize what they have done and I don?t think care either that?s what makes me so mad. Due to the nature of the docs case we cannot talk to the media or papers about this but I am confident that Docs will make sure this never happens again.
Thanks for your guidence and help

I am in shock at your story and my heart is aching for what you and your little girl have been through.
This may be really childish, and vengeful...but I would be sending the photos of your daughters injuries to every parent with a child at that centre! I am sorry but they do not deserve to be operating a business where they have the lives of little children in their hands!!!!

    Hi Kartier
My little girl came home with her legs almost covered in bruises. The next morning I went to the director and asked to see the accident log and asked about what had happened. The director was unable to locate the log at all and could not tell me what had happened. I stated that I did not think that was acceptable and mentioned the fact that they had also neglected to give her milk twice in 3 days and was there an explanation for that?
The director apologised but that doesn't fix the injury.
She tried to make us pay the two weeks notice that we didn't give but I refused to pay it. We had actually paid a week in advance and they refused to give us our money back. However we had fundraising money still in our posession for the centre so decided to keep that as it was less than what they owed us.

I wanted to pursue it at the time but did not have the time nor partner's support to do so.

    Child care accident

    Hi organicem -
I noticed bruises on DD when she came home but didnt read much into it but now I am concerned that the center is not looking after the kids as I have heard that other kids are also coming home covered in bruises. I did ask one day but was told that she fell off a step but nothing was recorded. That center that didnt give your child the milk when she was meant to have it on three diffent occasions was awful. What makes it worse is that there was no explaination for it. In our case the fact that we have no idea what happened to her on that day made it hard for us to understand what is going on.
DD is doing well but is not the same since that accident.
Hard to deal with but she is such a wonderful child
