I've been told that metformin has been found to be useful in PCOS women that still have normal GTTs... this info came from an ob/gyn registrar who works with the person who did the research... The way it was explained to me is that the insulin resistance causes the PCOS, without the insulin resistance there is no PCOS, it's just that for some people the insulin resistance isn't severe enough to show up on blood tests, but still causes problems - if that makes sense.
It's all relatively new research, so maybe it hasn't yet filtered through to all gynecologists.
the problem being that PCOS isn't just a problem when TTC (as some people mistakenly believe), and clomid is only given at that time... although, I'm guess that for someone who is reasonably regular, it wouldn't be such an issue... for someone like me, who has been going for 10+ weeks with no sign of successful ovulation and no AF, the PMS alone is terrible! Even if I wasn't TTC, something would need to be done!
