I hear your headache but take heart, it can work out easier than you think! My man is a pilot and whilst our home in in Malmö, Sweden, his base is Sandefjord in Norway and he has a 7/7 schedule. He leaves each wednesday and returns each wednesday and we're pretty used to it now.
When we decided to TTC, I plotted in my prospective ovulations for the coming 6 months into fertilityfriend.com and found out that he was going to be away during my peak fertile periods for the next 5 months......urgh....this was disheartening at the time but as it turned out, I actually ovulated 3 days late in our first month of TTC (the body can do amazing things when it really, really wants to conceive!) and badda-boom-badda-bing....baby on the way!
I think in the future it'll be hard at times when he's away and I feel frazzled but on the other hand, when he's home, he's totally off work and is free to spend all the time in the world with baby so I can plan my 'me time' for then!
Don't worry too much, you'll find your rhythm. We even have friends with kids where both parents are pilots or one is a pilot and one is a flight attendant and they seem to make it all come together nicely.
